According to a new source, the Fujinon XF 8-16mm F2.8 WR will have a new and improved flare control.

I guess it will probably use the same new “Anti-Reflection Coating” that we will find in the XF 200mm F2, and that will become standard in most of future Fujinon XF lenses.

We could see some mock-ups of the XF8-16 already in the past. I share them for you again here:

The Fujinon XF 8-16 is the most wanted Fujinon lens on FR-readers’ “To Do” list. And all we know officially from Fujifilm, is that it will be out this year.

Fujifilm named Thomson Reuters 2018 Top 100 Global Technology Leaders… and the Road to No.1 in Premium Mirrorless Camera Market

Fujifilm has been named (again) amongst the 2018 Top 100 global technology leaders by Thomson Reuters.

In the camera segment, Fujifilm was indeed innovative, by launching a new line of mirrorless medium format cameras with the Fujifilm GFX 50S, that has all the potential to become a game changer in the industry, especially once the Fujifilm GFX 100S hits the market, with its new 8K capable 100MP BSI sensor and faster sensor readout. And also an affordable rangefinder version is coming, the Fujifilm GFX 50R.

On the APS-C front, the current effort is set to give customers a wider range of camera body offers, by adding for example the Fujifilm X-H1 to the lineup, which will have IBIS and is more oriented towards video shooters, as well as giving “older” cameras a refresh, first and foremost the Fujifilm X-T3 by the end of 2018.

And lenses… lots of lenses for both, ASP-C and MF line, as we reported here.

The goal of this huge effort is very humbly described in Fujifilm’s medium-term management plan Vision 2019: “work toward capturing No.1 market share in the premium mirrorless camera market” within March 2020.

An incredibly ambitious goal, but as we can see, Fujifilm has lots of great stuff in the pipeline for 2018/2019, that has all been rumored on FujiRumors already (+ some surprises I am sure ;) )

Hi all…

Today I need your help :)

Why? Because one of the most asked questions I get via email is more or less like this:

“Hey Patrick, I am switching to Fujifilm. Which lenses do you recommend to start with?”

or

“Hey Patrick, next month I will travel to destination XY. Which lenses should I bring with me?”

I always have a hard time to answer these, because I tend to recommend lenses that I like and prefer for my way of shooting. And of course different lenses are good for different types of photography. And different people prefer different lenses.

So I had an idea.

I can escape the responsibility of making all alone lens recommendation in future, by launching a few polls here on FujiRumors, so that all of you guys can vote your own two favorite lenses.

So, if I get the question again via email in future, I will still be happy to give my humble advice, but I can also link to this post, so that people can have a larger feedback, than just my own.

Fujifilm Unveils New G and X Mount Lens Roadmap!

Fujifilm erroneously published the new lens roadmaps a few hours before the official embargo ends… and FujiRumors is happy to break the news for you :).

The X-mount roadmap includes the long rumored XF200/2 and the XF8-16, as well as the Fuji X mount version of the Fujinon MK18-55mm F2.9 and MK50-130mm T2.9, which launch, as Fujifilm said, has been postponed from 2017 to 2018.

The G-mount roadmap inlcudes the GF250mmF4 OIS and the GF 1.4x Teleconverter. The GF 250 (as well as other lenses) has been already rumored on FujiRumors back in April.

As I told you, you can’t expect major updates on the roadmap anymore. Why? Because in the past Fujifilm made long term lens roadmaps, but then, when they changed plans, they had to cancel lenses they officially promised to deliver (remember the XF120 for example?), and some customers got really angry about it. That’s why Fujifilm will launch only minor updates.

But hey… there is still FujiRumors for the unofficial long term roadmaps :)

1. Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens “XF8-16mmF2.8 R LM WR”

“XF8-16mmF2.8 R LM WR” is an ultra-wide angle zoom lens with a focal length equivalent to 12-24mm (on a 35mm format) and maximum F2.8 aperture. It is a lens most suited to shooting dynamic landscapes, night views and architecture. With the “XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR” and “XF50-140mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR”, Fujifilm’s XF lenses will cover F2.8 across the entire zoom range of Wide/Standard/Telephoto shooting areas.

2. Telephoto Prime Lens “XF200mmF2 R LM OIS WR”

“XF200mmF2 R LM OIS WR” is a telephoto prime lens with a focal length equivalent to 305mm (on a 35mm format) and maximum bright F2.0 aperture. It is a lens most suited to shooting sports, nature, or wild-birds. Both the existing “FUJINON Teleconverter XF1.4X TC WR” and “FUJINON Teleconverter XF2.0X TC WR” are compatible, so it can be used as an ultra-telephoto lens.

Fujifilm will continue to expand the lens line-up from ultra-wide to telephoto to support a wide range of photography styles and requirements. The release date of the “MK Series for X Mount version” will now be 2018 rather than 2017, as previously communicated.

1. Telephoto Prime Lens “GF250mmF4 R LM OIS WR”

“GF250mmF4 R LM OIS WR” is a telephoto prime lens with a focal length equivalent to 198mm (on a 35mm format) and maximum F4 aperture, enabling a beautiful bokeh effect for shooting portrait and landscapes images.

2. Tele Converter “GF1.4X TC WR”

The “GF1.4X TC WR” is a high-performance teleconverter capable of multiplying the focal length by 1.4x. Compatible with “GF250mmF4 R LM OIS WR”, its focal length will be 350mm (equivalent to 277mm on a 35mm format).

FUJINON “GF Lenses” are high quality lenses featuring rich tone reproduction, unique color reproduction and high resolving power, designed to incorporate Fujifilm’s optical technology. These lenses will be designed to the highest standards to allow photographers the ability to create the best images possible. Fujifilm has already released the “FUJIFILM GFX 50S” (hereinafter “GFX 50S”), the first camera in the “GFX Series,” as well as six “GF Lenses”. All of which have proved popular among professional photographers and photo enthusiasts, who praise it for its ability to capture high levels of detail, giving the atmosphere a three-dimensional feel, and its compact, lightweight body for easy operation.

With the addition of the two lenses, “GF250mmF4 R LM OIS WR” and “GF1.4X TC WR”, the GF range will now cover telephoto needs. The GF lens line-up will be expanded total of eight lenses, covering 18mm – 277mm (on a 35mm format). Fujifilm will continue to produce technology for the “GFX Series” Which reinvigorates passion for photography.

Fujifilm Lens Roadmap Updates to be Announced Soon

September 7 (if that’s really the date) will be a terrific Fuji announcements day :)

In addition to the Fujifilm X-E3, the Fujinon XF80mm Macro and the Fujinon GF45mm, I hear that Fujifilm will also release “lens roadmap updates“.

We already leaked the internal G-mount lens roadmap back in April here, and regarding the X-mount lens roadmap, the hottest rumored lenses are the XF200mmF2, the XF8-16mmF2.8 and the XF18mmF2 MKII.

FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Kenji Sukeno) has unveiled the latest development roadmap for interchangeable lenses for the X Series of digital cameras.

Fujifilm introduced the X Series of digital cameras in 2011, released mirrorless digital cameras featuring the X Mount in 2012, and has since continued to expand the series with active introduction of new products. At the same time, the lineup of interchangeable lenses, designed for the X Series, has been constantly expanded to offer 24 lenses in total now. Many photographers have praised these products for their advanced image quality and mobility.

<Lenses newly added to the roadmap>

1. New MK series of cinema camera lenses for filming video

Amidst growing demand for high-definition video, including 4K video, in the field of professional video production, Fujifilm is developing the X Mount versions of all-new MK Series of cinema camera lenses to address the needs for filming video with X Series cameras, taking advantage of their excellent mobility and operability, and unique color-reproduction technology to capture premium-quality video in an amazing array of colors.

2. “telephoto prime lens” and “ultra-wide angle zoom lens” for still images

Fujifilm has constantly expanded its lineup of interchangeable lenses for the X Series to cover a wide range of focal lengths from wide angle to ultra-telephoto. The company now plans to develop “telephoto prime lens” and “ultra-wide angle zoom lens” in response to numerous requests from professional photographers and photography enthusiasts to further expand the lineup of XF lenses, optimized for shooting still photos.

Fujifilm will continue to expand the lineup of the X Series of cameras and its interchangeable lenses to cater to a wide range of needs from still photography to video filming, thereby boosting the appeals of the X Series even further.

The Big Fujifilm Year 2017 :: What We Can Expect in January… and After (Rumor Recap)

Fujifilm seems unstoppable. 2016 was such a great year, but the start of 2017 is awesome too. Tons of rumors have already been shared… so time for a recap.

Keep in mind, some of these rumors are from trusted sources, others not. So maybe not everything will materialize.

Fujinon XF50mmF2 WR to be Announced along with X-A10 in November – POLL

According to a trusted source (thanks), Fujiiflm will announce the Fujinon XF50mmF2 WR along with the Fuji X-A10 in November.

The XF50mmF2 WR will be the third compact weather resistant F2 lens after the XF35mmF2 WR and the XF23mmF2 WR.

It’s a well known fact, that the XF35mmF2 WR is a terrific success for Fujifilm. Also the XF23mmF2 WR seems to sell like hot cakes now… and I wouldn’t be surprised if also the XF50mmF2 WR turns out to be a winner, too.

The other, long rumored lenses, like the XF33mmF1.0, XF8-16mmF2.8 WR and XF200mmF2 (or F2.8) have all been postponed, since Fujifilm wanted to focus on the small and compact F2 trinity + the 80mmF2.8 OIS WR (which replaced the 120mmF2.8 that was in the original roadmap).

And while I get it why people love those small weather sealed F2 guys so much, I hope that in 2017 Fujifilm will catch up were they dropped plans many months ago, and work again on the 33/1, 8-16/2.8 and 200mm…. would love to see them all coming in 2017…. but my personal favorite would be… the… ok, I said it in the Poll below ;)

Fujifilm Will Launch Lenses with Clickless Aperture for Video in 2017 – New Source

According to a new source, Fujifilm will launch lenses with clickless aperture in 2017. These lenses are ment for X-shooters, who use their X-camera especially for videos.

Of course, take it with a grain of salt for now…

With the X-T2, Fujifilm now has a very good allrounder camera, with very fast and accurate Aufotfocus (so confirms even the Sony manager, who created the A7 series) and great video quality. And X-shooters, who use the X-T2 a lot for video, might appreciate the addition of such lenses.

I don’t know, yet, if Fujifilm will make a clickless aperture version of existing lenses, or if they are going to launch complete new lenses.

And while such lenses might be highly appreciated by video shooters, I hope Fujifilm doesn’t forget that some out there are still waiting for the XF33mmF1.0, XF8-16mmF2.8, XF200mmF2 (or 2.8) and some other lenses with a nice clicky aperture ring ;).
