Happy Birthday Fujifilm X: Fujifilm X100 Released 8 Years Ago!

Happy Birthday Fujifilm X

Exactly 8 years ago, on March 5, 2011, the original Fujifilm X100 hit the market, and started not only a very successful line with the X100, X100S, X100T and X100F, but it marked the beginning of the Fujifilm X series.

And in times, where we all carve for innovation in terms of more sophisticated specs, the Fujifilm X100 line biggest innovation is its simplicity and essentiality, which seems to free up people’s mind and boost their creativity.

The “one camera, one lens” concept is very much-loved by the members of our 22,000 people strong X100 group, who appreciate to be free of the weight of gear, but also of the weight of gear-centric thoughts about which lenses to use or bring on travels.

Fujifilm knows, though, that the switch to one single focal length can discourage people to buy into the X100 line, which is why they do offer some flexibility with the Fujifilm WCL-100 and Fujifilm TCL-100.

With these converters, photographers get a mini-system with leaf shutter and integrated ND-filter, that allows you to cover from 28 to 50mm equivalent.

Last but not least, the Fujifilm X100 design is also, according to this poll, by far your favorite looking X series camera, and I fully support this.

So, today we celebrate the X100 here on FujiRumors, by dedicating it an own roundup.

Long live the Fujifilm X100 line, and we can’t wait for the Fujifilm X100V or X200 to come :).

Fujifilm X-Pro3 (and Fujifilm X200?) Coming in 2019 According to Techradar

Fujifilm 2019 Techradar Predictions

According to techradar predictions, the Fujifilm X-Pro3 will come in 2019. And they seem pretty confident about that, since they write here:

We’ve pooled together what we know for sure with our predictions for the next twelve months.”

Less likely, but also a possibility according to techradar is the Fujifilm X100F successor (may it be called Fujifilm X200 or Fuji X100V or anything else).

If techradar is accurate, this means that Fujifilm changed their usual camera-refresh cycle, and that they will not skip one sensor/processor generation with the Fujifilm X-Pro3, as they did with the X-Pro2.

Here on FujiRumors we have already shared Fujifilm X-Pro3 concepts and wish lists.

Oh, and did you know that the Fujfiilm X-T30 is just around the corner? ;)

Fujifilm 2019: Forget Fujifilm X-H2, Enjoy Fujifilm X-T30, Marvel at Fujifilm GFX100 and 2018 Rumor Check

Fujifilm 2019

Thanks to our fantastic sources, 2018 was another incredibly busy and successful rumor year for FujiRumors, with 75 rumors shared (one rumor every 5 days) and a rumor hit rate of 92%.

I hope we could add a bit of fun and entertainement in the Fuji X and GFX world, and that you guys enjoyed the time spent discussing the rumors on this blog.

But what will 2019 bring?

We have already shared an overview at our Fujifilm X Camera Replacement Timeline. But let’s go more in detail now.

And don’t forget follow FujiRumors on Facebook, Instagram, RSS-feed and Twitter.

Fujifilm X-T30 To be Released First Quarter 2019

Fujifilm X-T30

A trusted source told me (thanks), that the Fujifilm X-T30 will be released in the first quarter of 2019 (January-March).

This pretty much fits with what we expected in our Fujifilm X camera replacement timeline, where we speculated, based on Fuji’s camera refresh-cycle, when the Fujifilm X-H2, Fujifilm X-T4, Fujifilm X-T30, Fujifilm X-Pro3, Fujifilm X-E4 and Fujifilm X200 (or X100V) could be released.

BREAKING: No Fujifilm X-H2 Release in 2019

Fujifilm X-H2

According to a trusted source, the Fujifilm X-H2 will not hit the market in 2019.

This rumor seem to confirm our Fujifilm X Camera replacement timeline, which shows you when we can expect the Fujifilm X-H2, Fujifilm X-T4, Fujifilm X-E4, Fujifilm X-Pro3, Fujifilm X-T30, Fujifilm X200 (or Fujifilm X100V) based on Fuji’s camera refresh rate from 2011 to 2018.

So, the Fuji X-H2 is still a long way off, hence, if you want to get the latest and greatest in the most powerful package possible now, the Fujifilm X-T3 is the way to go. And if you want IBIS, ultra rugged body and ninja mechanical shutter, go for the Fujifilm X-H1.

And given that you guys now have a first reliable Fuji XH2 time frame, I decided to launch the poll again, where you can vote if you prefer to wait for the X-H2, or you go X-T3 instead.

Fujifilm X Camera Replacement Timeline from 2011 to 2018 and What This Could Mean for X-H2, X-T4, X-T30, X-Pro3, X-E4, X200

Fujifilm Timeline

Today I decided to take a look at the refresh rate of the top/mid range Fujifilm cameras and tried to make a guess (NOT A RUMOR) about when the Fujifilm X-H2, Fujifilm X-Pro3, Fujifilm X-E4, Fujifilm X-T4, Fujifilm X-T30 and Fujifilm X200 (or X100V) can be expected.

Overall we can see how the Fujifilm X-E and X-Pro line are gravitating towards a 4 years refresh time, whereas X-T and X100 line are close to a 2 years refresh time.

WARNING

  • This is not based on rumors, and it’s not said that Fujifilm will always keep the same product refresh rate. Everything can change anytime.
  • Don’t miss the upcoming rumors and join us on Facebook, RSS-feed, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter

NOT INCLUDED:

  1. All 2/3 sensor cameras are not included, since the won’t ever get any successor (not even 1 inch sensor cameras, no matter what old patents say)
  2. X70/XF10: XF10 is not the X70 successor. It’s unclear if there will be a Fujifilm X80 at some point
  3. X-A line has a high refresh rate, but the FR community is for the most part not interested in this camera line
  4. GFX 50S, GFX 100S, GFX 50R: According to our rumors, the GFX 100 comes 2 years and 3 months after the GFX 50S. It’s unclear if the Fuji GFX 50R will also get a 2 year refresh rate or a 4 year refresh rate like its rangefinder brothers the X-Pro and X-E

Fujifilm X-H2: Are You Waiting for X-H2 to Upgrade/Switch or Did you Get the Fujifilm X-T3 Already? POLL

Fujifilm X-H2

After the announcement of the Fujifilm X-T3, I get countless emails, asking me when the Fujifilm X-H2, Fujifilm X-Pro3, Fujifilm X-T30, Fujifilm X-E4, Fujfiilm X100V or Fujifilm X200 with latest X-Trans sensor 4 and X Processor 4 will come.

I am working on this, and I will post updates on FR as soon as I can. So make sure not to miss them by following us on Facebook, RSS-feed, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter.

One of the guys, asking me about the Fujifilm X-H2 is FR Sacha, who wrote me:

What would you think of running a poll to get a feel for the interest with the Fujifilm X-H2?

More specifically to have an idea of how many users didn’t upgrade to the X-T3, and are actually waiting on the Fuji XH2. This is something I see come back a lot in the comments of the X-T3 reviews so I’d be curious to see what a poll would look like. It could even motivate Fujifilm to hasten the X-H2’s release date, after seeing the results of the poll :)

One note: I feel people waiting on the Fujifilm X-H2 are actually mostly non-fuji users who want to switch to Fuji but maybe are still on the fence and would like the “whole package” with IBIS to really switch. So maybe the results for Fuji users could be a bit less in “favor” of the X-H2.”

And since your participation, ideas and contributions are the heart and soul of this blog, I will be happy to take Sacha’s advice and make a poll out of it.

Check out the poll below… and read the options carefully ;)

Shot with the Fuji [shoplink 7756]X-E1[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 7812]Tokina 11-16mm[/shoplink] at 11mm.

X-E1

Roshan Vyas travels a lot. And he was tired of carrying the heavy [shoplink 7802]Nikon D7000[/shoplink] around Europe. So he sold it off, and was tempted to buy a [shoplink 7800]Leica M9[/shoplink]. But “having a need to continue eating and living under a roof, I wasn’t about to spend a few months mortgage on a used M9 and lenses.” He found a compromise and bought the X-E1, a Leica lens ([shoplink 7804 ebay]Leica Summicron-M 50mm f/2[/shoplink]) and [shoplink 7806]RainbowImaging lens adapter[/shoplink]. Compared to the X-E1, the Leica lens is heavy, “causing the combination to be a little off balance“. The results? Look at his first two sample shots and read more here on his website.

Here is a comprehensive Italian review (translated version). It’s a good overview about the X-E1. And, I know, you will think that a comparison with FF-cameras is unfair… but on page seven you will find some ISO-comparison samples. This time the competitors are the [shoplink 7900]Canon 5D Mark II[/shoplink], [shoplink 7908]Canon 5D Mark III[/shoplink], [shoplink 7902]Canon 6D[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 7904]Nikon D600[/shoplink]. (thanks Omar)

Fuji X-E1 + [shoplink 7855 ebay]Elmarit-R 24mm F2.8[/shoplink] + metabones speed booster (via slidoo). See the sample shots at dc.watch (translated version).

XF 14mm

How to never miss another shot with the Fujifilm X-E1: Zone focusing“… DOF with the XF14mm explained by Mike Kobal here!

We’re currently testing the Fujifilm 14mm lens with the XE-1 body. We’ve included the entire aperture range from f/2.8 to f/22 to show what the lens is capable of. A gallery of 40 JPEG photos taken with the Fujifilm XF 14mm f2.8 R lens.” See all samples here at photographyblog.

FixelPix loves his [shoplink 7821]XF 18mm lens[/shoplink]. But now the [shoplink 7764]XF 14mm[/shoplink] arrived, and he shot for one hour with it. “I know a number of people have asked if the 14mm is really worth the investment over the 18mm. I personally think it is, 21mm (full frame equiv.) offers a fair bit more image than the 28mm. I’ve marked the approximate scale factors between the 14mm,18mm and 35mm lenses. […] There is a massive versatility of speed + ultra wide + stunning output and I can’t wait to get it know it better. The Fujinon 14mm lens looks like the perfect companion for both landscape photography as well as general street / documentary work.” Read more and see his long exposure shots here at FixelPix.

Sony 35mm f1.8 (NEX) vs Fujifilm 35mm f1.4

The phoblographer made an informal Lens comparison: [shoplink 7816]Sony 35mm f1.8 (NEX)[/shoplink] vs [shoplink 7766]Fujifilm XF 35mm f1.4[/shoplink] (X Mount). “As far as this test goes, Sony has done great things with their lenses, sensors and cameras. But in terms of pure image quality, it still can’t stack up to Fujifilm.” See the comparison pics here on his website.

X-PRO1

Fuji X-Pro1 Portrait Review at roughly365 (read it here). “For me the X-Pro1 was built for this kind of work, I needed a powerful yet discreet bit of kit. It slipped into my pocket easily… I can see how the Fuji X-Pro1 system would be amazing for wedding photography and documentary/backstage photographers, the files are defiantly comparable to the canon 5dII when shooting RAW….Would I swap my Canon Kit for the X-Pro1 kit?? NO….  I find the X-Pro1 to be the perfect camera to have in your kit as a backup/2nd/3rd/4th? camera or for situations you need subtlety.  There are definitely situations where the X-Pro1 is an advantage.

[shoplink 7865]XF1 (specs&price)[/shoplink]

The XF1 is without doubt the best looking compact out there – just look at it! And, while it’s not a back up to a DSLR by any means, it certainly does have that wantability factor that is hard to resist. It does exactly what is asked of a camera of this type – it has a near instant start up, is very quick to focus and very quick to process an image.” Read the whole review here at photographymonthly.com
