Matt Russell: “Patrick, Well, I finally did it. I sold my Canon 5D Mark II with 5 lenses and bought a X-T1 with the 10-24mm, 55-200, and the 56mm. After having bought the X100s and been impressed with it, I can’t say how impressed I am with the X-T1 and the lenses. I’m starting to branch out in my photography (portraits, street, etc) which I felt inhibited by the size, bulk, and attention my Canon gear garnered. I would have to pick and choose which Canon gear to leave home as it all wouldn’t fit into my gear bag. I now carry all my Fuji gear (X-T1, 3 lenses, X100S) and have room to spare and less of a load. I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I will never go back to a DSLR.” mjrussellphotography.com/latestmjrussellphotography.com/gallery/places/connecticu

[UDPATE] X-T1 firmware in December + Rumor-Riddle: electronic shutter via hardware or firmware upgrade?

 photo neukai_zpsdf3dff47.png

MULTIPLE ANNOUNCEMENTS ON SEP10
X100T, 56APD, 50-140WR, silver X-T1
early in the morning (London Time)
STAY TUNED ON FUJIRUMORS

[UDPATE: The source wrote me again and confirmed: the black X-T1 will get the electronic shutter via firmware update for free (thanks!)]

Hi all,

I know you are used to get answers here at Fujirumors and not questions. I know you’re looking for something well-founded and not for doubts… But hey, dubito ergo sum. So let me risk something different today and share a rumor-riddle with you ;-)

It’s a long rumor, I know, but read carefully in order to help me to solve it.

An anonymous source with nick-name (who could eventually quickly be upgraded to trusted source) confirmed: the X-T1 firmware will be released in December (at least if Fuji won’t postpone it, as it happened a few times with the X100 firmware)… for both, the black AND the upcoming silver X-T1.

What will it bring? Well, basically everything that the Fujifilm X30 can. Customize the Q menu, full manual control and more frame rates in video mode, the spot metering frame coupling, instant AF will support phase detection, direct selection of AF Area and much more! You should check out Rico’s X30 first look (German Version here) to read more details about it.

And now it’s time for a little rumor-riddle… the electronic shutter! Will it be part of the firmware update, or does it require a hardware update (sensor replacement)?

Oh wait, I already hear some saying that the firmware rumor is BS, as an electronic shutter can’t be introduced to cameras via firmware update. Well, just for your interested, Olympus added an “electronic first curtain” (electronic shutter) in the OM-D E-M1 and E-P5 via firmware update to eliminate vibrations caused by the mechanical shutter. So it can be done… it just depends on the sensor.

Now let’s go back to December firmware upgrade and what various sources told me about.

The anonymous source with nick-name (which will very likely be part of the elite team of trusted sources after the 10th of September) didn’t expressly include the electronic shutter in the December firmware-email it sent me via rumor box.

Now, does this mean that just the rumored limited edition silver X-T1 will feature an electronic shutter, and the classic black X-T1 can’t be upgraded via firmware update? I still can’t answer this question…. and since I can’t contact the source, I ask the source, if possible, to clear this up by contacting me again via rumor box.

However, I recall another rumor, shared by a new source here:

  • “There will be firmware improvements to the X-T1, but there will be a hardware improvement as well. A limited edition X-T1 will be available with it pre-installed but existing models could be upgraded with the money worth of new parts.”

Will the electronic shutter require such a hardware improvement for the black X-T1 (sensor replacement)? I’m right now investigating this.

At the moment we have this situation:

– A trusted source told us that a complete new firmware upgrade for the X-T1 will come. See this rumor of August 15.
– A new source told us of a firmware update in December, which will bring also the electronic shutter. See this rumor of Agust 22.
– Another new source told us that there will be a firmware & hardware improvement for the black X-T1. A limited edition will come already with it pre-installed, but existing X-T1 can be upgraded “with the money worth of new parts”. See this rumor of September 5.
– Right now, an anonymous source with nick-name, who shared a lot of stuff (which will probably be correct), told us about the X-T1 December firmware update, shared some more details, but didn’t include the electronic shutter in its list.

The options for now are basically these:

1) There will be a firmware update that will bring electronic shutter also to the classic black X-T1. No sensor replacement needed. [UPDATE: The source contacted me again and confirmed this option] 2) Only the silver X-T1 will feature an electronic shutter, and you have to change sensor on your classic black X-T1 in order to get the electronic shutter (and pay for the new parts).
3) Or maybe the truth could be somewhere between option 1 and 2, so there will be a paid firmware update to get the electronic shutter (no rumor about this, just an idea of mine).
4) The rumors are plain wrong, and no X-T1, black or silver, will ever get an electronic shutter.

So, my friends, welcome to the rumor jungle I have to deal with every single day ;-) . Make up your own mind and feel free to drop your solution to the enigma in the comments down below. Personally I’m undecided between option 1 and 2.

For now, I will keep the electronic shutter in the rumored firmware features, that should come with the firmware update in December. But I’ll put my best into this rumor, and try to update you as soon as possible…. thanks for you patience.

If there is anyone out there who could help us to understand, feel free to contact FR, anonymously via rumor box or also via email at fujirumor [at] gmail.com

cheers,

X100T – 50-140WR – silver X-T1… and more?

With the kind support of the, in the meantime, famous “anonymous source with nick-name”, I’m now able to share the following information:

– The Fujifilm X100T, the silver X-T1 and XF56mmf/1.2APD should ship in November.

– Unlike the X30, the Fujifilm X100T should include also a battery charger (and not only the cable for USB-charging via PC/MAC).

Sure, the grain of salt has to be taken until September 10… but I think we will soon have to welcome a new “trusted source” here on Fujirumors ;-) .

Fujifilm X100T: EVF bigger than the EVF of the X-E2 (x0.67 magnification)

 photo asd_zpscffec964.jpg
In the fast-moving rumor mill, the Fujifilm X30 is already history. There is no time to lay back in the past and say “hey, I got all the X30 leaked specs right”. I’ll just send a big “THANK YOU” to those sources who shared correct rumors with FR…

… and already start to look ahead to the next camera that should be released by Fujifilm: the X100S successor (rumored to be called Fujifilm X100T).

Yep, there is no time to rest, not even on my holidays ;-).

Now, I got the following information by a trusted source about the X100S successor:

– EVF will have a x0.67 magnification and offer a horizontal apparent field of view of approx. 27°. Biggest EVF in Fuji’s line after X-T1.

This confirms rumors shared back in February, that the X100T EVF would be better than the one on the X-E2 (although not as good as the one on the X-T1)

That’s it for now, take care and feel free to share rumors… that would be a big help in order to make my daily rumor-work a bit easier.

Fujifilm X-PRO2 to be unveiled at Photokina but released “about this time next year” ? (AS)

 photo photokinaXpro2_zps198f810b.jpg

The same source, who told us about the announcement of the X30 on August 26th, shared more rumors with us.

The source said that the battery of the X30 will be the one used in the X100/S (the NP-95). I’ve checked it with trusted sources, and they say that it is correct.

Now, I believe that both rumors this source shared with us (announcement 26 August + the NP-95) are correct. Sure, EVERYTHING shared until now is NOT CONFIRMED by facts… we will see if it is wrong or right after the 26th. So it is important that we take it with a GRAIN OF SALT.

MESSAGE TO THE SOURCE: in case you decide to share more rumors, you know what to say so that I can identify you in future… and thanks for sharing.

X-PRO2 RUMOR

The same anonymous source said (still unconfirmed by trusted sources, so take it with a grain of salt):

1) The Fujifilm X-PRO2 will be unveiled at the photokina, but is expected to be released about “this time next year” (this means one year after Photokina 2014).

If the source is right, this means a whole year will pass between the unveiling and the shipping of the X-PRO2. Therefore I wonder if at the photokina we will really see how the 100% final X-PRO2 will be, or if the photokina will be used for a sort of X-PRO2 tech demonstration (improved hybrid viewfinder and so on), but with the final version to be announced later on.

2) Fujifilm doesn’t see the point in Full Frame and will keep the ASP-C sensor.

3) The ASP-C sensor of the Fujifilm X-PRO2 will have more MP.

This could fit with the 24MP rumor shared in the past, although the source just said “more megapixel”.

4) Price: The Fujifilm X-PRO2 will be the top of the X-line, so it will be more expensive than the X-T1. At the moment the price tag seems to be about 20% to 30% higher (than the X-T1 price)… always according to this same source.

The source shared a few more rumors that I’d like to discuss with other sources first. I’ll update you as soon as possible.

stay tuned and follow FR on facebook, google+, RSS-feed and twitter,

Fujifilm will introduce a new Film Simulation called „Classic Chrome“ (SRP)

 photo filmsimu_zpsea3b2a8f.png

A few months ago, there was an anonymous source with nick name, who shared a correct rumor about the X-T1 with us (SRP = source right in the past). This source just wrote me for the second time and told us that Fuji will launch a new Film Simulation called „Classic Chrome“.

That’s all the source said. So for now… take it with… a grain of salt.

If true, I think we will see this film simulation coming with the X30 and X100T… and maybe it could also be one of the features introduced in the rumored upcoming X-T1 firmware update. But that’s just my personal guess for now, so DO NOT take it as a rumor from a FR-source.

Oh, and feel free to share this rumor whereever you want, just make the courtesy to quote the source and to put a link back to FR. I have nothing against it to be quoted ;-)

stay tuned… and share rumors with Fujirumors (if you have some),
facebook, google+, RSS-feed and twitter

P.S.: And in case you just came back from holidays and didn’t read FR in the last weeks, then here is a little rumor roundup and reliability rating for you. Also a rumor check-up of 2014, which will have a big update after photokina I suppose.

Fujifilm updated the lens roadmap… but nothing new for FR-readers ;-)

 photo pic_01_zps48f6e2df.jpg

Fujifilm just updated the roadmap here. Nothing really new for Fujirumors readers. As rumored moths ago, there will be a 16mm f/1.4 and a 90mm f/2. The Super-Telephoto should be a 120-400, according to new sources. I’ve added the rumored roadmap at the bottom. Also updated, the right&wrong rumor list in 2014 and the reliability rating.

So what’s new? Well, Fuji gave us an expected availability for the lenses and it seems that the new primes (90 and 16) won’t be weather resistant. Also, the 16-55 seems to have no OIS anymore.

“FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Shigehiro Nakajima) is pleased to release an updated road map for X mount interchangeable lenses.

A large-diameter medium telephoto lens (the XF90mmF2 R) features for the first time on the development road map for end 2015. The next available lens will be the XF50-140mm F2.8 R LM OIS WR. Following on from the XF18-135mm lens, this will be Fujifilm’s second weather resistant lens designed to partner its X-T1 camera.

Other updates to the road map include the previously announced “Ultra-wide angle lens” being confirmed as the “XF16mmF1.4 R” with a guide launch date of mid 2015. And the planned launch of the XF16-55mmF2.8 R WR lens moving to Spring 2015 and the Super Tele-Photo Zoom lens to Winter 2015.

Highly regarded for their outstanding image quality, resolution and well-built bodies, the unique X mount lens range now includes super-wide angle to super-telephoto range lenses and a large-diameter lens with rich bokeh and high resolution.”
