POLL: Should I share more rumors… and the risks related to it!

 photo FR Rumors_zps680g5hx7.jpg

To Share or not to Share?

I’m caught in a dilemma… and maybe you can help me out with this.

As you know, recently Fujifilm announced the Infrared version of the Fuji X-T1 (specs & price here). For the first time in many years, I haven’t published anything about a new Fuji product ahead of its release. But this doesn’t mean I haven’t heard about the X-T1 IR camera. In fact I did got an anonymous hint.

But here is the thing: in all these years I’ve tried to become more and more accurate with the rumors I share, because I do feel the responsibility towards you of what I write. Some of you even make their buying decisions based on my rumors. My careful rumor approach allowed me to have a rumor hit rate of almost 90% in 2015 (and about 85% in 2014). I know the usual trolls will say the ranking is a fake. So I invite you to go through every single rumor, check them, and then tell me your results (and I’ll be happy to publish them on FujiRumors ;) ).

And because I’d like to keep (and maybe even raise) the high rumor hit rate, I was too careful with the X-T1 IR rumor, didn’t publish it and wanted to investigate further.

Before you answer the Poll, consider this:

FAKE RUMORS: In the last 2-3 years, the number of fake rumors send anonymously via rumor box has grown a lot. This made my work very complicated. My deepest gratitude goes to those sources, who shared correct rumors and helped me to sort out the fake ones.

However, the growing number of fake rumors forced me to risk less and be more careful. Plenty of fake rumors never went online in the last 3 years… it would be a fun list to publish one day… at least the Top 20 or 50 fake rumors.

About Anonymous/New sources

And just to be clear: let me express a big Thank You to those Anonymous/New sources, who shared amazing and correct rumors with FR in the past, driven by the genuine will to help me… and there are many of them (just check the rumor section). Luckily in almost all cases I’ve also shared their rumors on FR… almost all, except the few incorrect ones and the X-T1 IR.

I know not everyone is a FR hater and wants to undermine the credibility of this site.

I really appreciate your help and will continue to share your rumors. So keep up sharing them using the rumor box (it would be VERY useful if you’d use a nick-name) or via email at fujirumor@gmail.com.

The Poll

So, the question now is, should I risk more and share more rumors coming from anonymous sources?

This would NOT mean that I’d share every anonymous rumor, since I’m aware that many fakes are send in to try to attack FujiRumors. I’d still keep a certain “rumor-filter”. But after the missed X-T1 IR rumor I’m somehow wondering if I should take more risks.

There is a part in me that says “Hey, you are FujiRumors and not FujiFacts! Risk more!”. But there is a still much stronger part in me that desires to be as accurate as possible.

I’ll think about it and make my decision soon… but I’d love to hear what you guys recommend me to do. So here is the Poll.

Fujifilm will launch the first X series camera with 1” sensor in about 3 months (Anonymous Source)

 photo SUPERZOOM_zpsaaivggdu.jpg

According to an anonymous source, Fuji will announce a X series camera with an 1” sensor in the next few months (around September / October). It could have a fixed zoom lens with a range similar to the one of the Fujifilm X-S1, which has a 24-624mm zoom lens.

Sounds a lot like the Fujifilm X-S2, but this is not part of the rumor.

Anyway, will we soon have the first X-series camera featuring a 1” sensor?

To be clear, the grain of salt is mandatory with every rumor I share (especially anonymous rumors). Don’t take everything as a fact, just because my rumor hit rate is of almost 90% in 2015 – btw, many of them shared by anonymous sources.

I hope I will be able to confirm it via trusted source as soon as possible, and that I can say once again: “Hey, I told you” ;) .

miXed Zone: AF-performance with FW 3.10, about Kaizen, Fuji Interview, X-Trans + C1… and Max Angeloni’s “holy” Fuji work!

 photo crucis_zpsng82wiml.png

If you are in Rome in these holy Easter days, don’t miss to check out Max Angeloni’s exhibition about the Way of the Cross in one of the arguably most important baroque churches worldwide, the Basilica di Sant’Andrea della Valle (the exhibition ends on the 8th of April.)

X-Photographer Max Angeloni used exclusively Fuji X gear for this important assignment: the Fujifilm X-T1 and three lenses (23mm, 35mm and 56mm… and two 180 Watt lights).

If you can’t go to Rome, take a look at his work at riflessifotografici (translation).

INTERVIEW

There is an interview with Fujifilm Japan’s Kunio Aoyama and Hiroto Nakata at mirrorlessons. Here some excerpts (FYI, here are the interviews with Mr. Iida Toshihisa & Makoto Oishi):

– NEW LENSES: “We are trying to understand where the lack of coverage is. For example, tilt-shift lenses or fisheye lenses or extreme telephoto lenses. […] Maybe when we announce the next generation of cameras, we can announce the next roadmap.”

– ORGANIC SENSOR: “We are continuing to develop the sensor. […] The organic sensor itself is designed not only for cameras but also for other applications. So originally the technology and development is not for digital cameras. […] We are trying to figure out if the sensor is best for cameras, video or other hardware products. We are still studying and developing the package.

Make sure to check out the whole interview at mirrorlessons… and just a little note about the Organic Sensor. A Fuji Guy said to bigheadtaco at youtube (minute 13:00) that there are some challenges in the production the organic sensor, but ones these issues are fixed “we are going to see an entire new page of sensor technology!”

The Problem with the organic sensor? As shared in this rumor, it could be due to too much battery drain and heat production..

Fujifilm X-PRO2 with 4K and new processor EXR III (trusted Japanese source)

 photo PRO2 EXRIII_zpshysklldy.jpg

Let’s start the week with a fresh rumor update coming from our top Japanese source. The source contacted me this weekend to let us know that:

  • Fuji indeed plans to launch a 4K capable X-PRO2

  • The Fujifilm X-PRO2 will feature a new and faster processor (EXR III)

We know from Fuji engineers here that X-TRANS sensor requires a lot processing power when shooting video. The current EXR II processor apparently has some difficulties to calculate all the video-data, and this is a reason why the huge advantage of the X-Trans sensor to mitigate moiree in stills doesn’t apply to video. A new and faster EXR III processor could help to sort out this issue.

A couple of days ago I asked over at the FR-facebook page here, if you are excited about the possible 4K capability of the X-PRO2… well, maybe some of you might be surprised with what the majority of followers answered. Check it out here.

WILD RUMORS UDPATE

Yesterday I’ve shared a bunch of rumors that appeared on the Chinese forum dchome. Today it’s already time for an update

A Chinese FR-reader send me another translation and additional information shared by Forum member joofie. (and thanks also to those, who posted their translations and additions in the comments)

1. XF 35 1.4 version 2 focus speed will be faster than XF23 a little, and selling over USD500

2. New pancake lens XF20 or 18 probably will come with NO aperture ring and smaller than current XF18 a little bit

3. Fuji is performing a final evaluation of “Pay for parts upgrade” , as they decided Hi ended user can using their owned fuji machine in a longer period of time. 2014 already slow down their schedule to release new machine.

4. one of the spec of X-pro 2 is 24M pixel.

5. Organic sensor: Panasonic provide the production line and Fuji provide the patent and technology. [ADMIN: joofie says also (google translated) “differing only available time (P recorded in 2015 DEC / 2016 JAN)“. I think he is talking about the availability. I’ve dropped an email to the Chinese reader and asked if that’s correct. I will post an update as soon as I he replies]

6. Fuji already register their new hybrid focus.

7. New machine with no classic outlook had been developed, not target at Pro users.

8. There is a X-M2 developed but it will be replaced by another product. And, it will not coded as M2.

FYI, here is yesterday’s list (check out the whole post here)

1) X-Pro2 will not be launched on first quarter of 2015, but there are 2 SPEC… [FUJIRUMORS: It’s probably correct that the X-PRO2 won’t come in the first quarter. I’m not sure what “but there are 2 SPEC” means. Probably 2 versions (“species”).]

2) XF20 F2.8 (equal = 30MM / pancake) or XF18 F2.8(equal = 27MM / pancake), will be launching soon.

3) XF35 F1.4(II) , better IQ & bokeh & focus speed a bit faster than XF23, price over HK$ 4000 [FUJIRUMORS: there were rumors in 2014 about it. Apparently Fuji tested an APD version of it, but then dismissed it – source Fuji Manager]

4) OCT-DEC will be a big cannon show up (4XX) (*Forum ppl believe is 140 -400mm)

5) DUAL MOUNT PRODUCT may launch in mid of the year [FUJIRUMORS: My comment about this down below]

6) New phase auto focus system (can compete with DSLR), will come out in X-Mount. [FUJIRUMORS: why not? Sony’s bestseller, the A6000, shows the way]

7) High Speed Pro Flash light, synchronize rate improve to pro standard [FUJIRUMORS: New flash coming in spring]

8) Body will back light prevention setting system (2015 mid / year-end)

9) New fix lens camera will launching before March (” X ” 1 – 2 model) [FUJIRUMORS: He could mean the XQ2, since it was shared on the dchome forum before the official announcement of the XQ2]

10) X-M1 successor already develop, just do not know will launch or not

11) Fuji Japan still analyses a program that user by pay some amount of $$ and can upgrade the part (item (5)- (8) ). They hope user can use the model for longer time without refresh model too fast.

12) XF16 1.4 – Hot summer launching

13) google translated: “X-E3 has a row you wait for” [FUJIRUMORS: sounds like Fuji is debating (has a row) regarding the X-E2 successor, which eventually is expected to come in 2016, since, according to joofei… (see Nr.14)

14) X-E3 => 2016

[UDPATE: there is an update to this post here, with additional rumors shared by joofie]

The wild rumors at dchome

First off: these rumors do NOT come from FR-sources, and I publish them 1:1 as they surfaced on the web. I say this because I’d love to prevent the usual comments that rumors of my sources are completely unreliable. Sure, in 2014 I’ve shared 14 wrong rumors… however, 14 wrong out of 85 verifiable rumors (this means 71 rumors were correct – 83.5% hit rate). So you see, I try to be as accurate as possible.

However, I opened this blog because I love the X-Series, but also because I like to speculate about rumors. So I think we can sometimes also discuss some rumors that sound a bit weird.

That being said…. let’s start:

The information was shared by a Forum Member called joofei at dchome (translated by a non native English speaking FR-reader – thanks). During the discussion on the forum, joofei continued to share more details. I’ve added them in the list (Nr.13-14) (I relied on google translator. If there is any Chinese reader who can make a more accurate translation, then just drop it in the comments)

14) X-E3 => 2016

A lot of stuff. For now I’ll just make a short comment about that “dual mount product“. Sounds like a camera that has the ability to attach current X-mount lenses but also lenses with a different mount… a sort of hybrid mount camera. Something like the mount of the Contax rangefinder made from the 1930ies to the 50ies, which was “in fact the combination of two bayonets.” (source Camerapedia)

Ok, now I have to fire off some emails. If I can debunk (or maybe confirm) any of these rumors, I’ll post an updated here on FujiRumors

Fujifilm launches the FUJINON XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR

January 6, 2015

FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Shigehiro Nakajima) is proud to announce that a new FUJINON XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR will be added to the X Series interchangeable lens line-up in February 2015.

A weather-resistant zoom lens with a constant aperture of F2.8 across the focal lengths equivalent to 24mm at wide-angle through to 84mm at medium-telephoto, the XF16-55mm delivers ultra-sharp images even at wide open apertures across the entire zoom range!

The “FUJINON XF16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR” is a flagship “XF standard zoom lens” with a focal length equivalent to 24mm – 84mm (in 35mm format equivalent), and a constant F2.8 aperture throughout the range. The advanced optical design controls various forms of aberration to achieve edge-to-edge sharpness across the entire zoom range. The use of a newly-developed Nano-GI* (Gradient Index) coating technology effectively inhibits ghosting and flare, producing clear images. This is a convenient standard zoom lens that covers a wide range of shooting scenes from the wide-angle 24mm equivalent suitable for landscape photography, to the medium-telephoto 84mm equivalent, ideal for portraiture.
The XF16-55mm lens is driven with a linear motor, allowing comfortable shooting with fast, quiet autofocusing. Featuring a weather resistant and dust-resistant finish that can work in temperatures as low as -10°C and can be paired with the “FUJIFILM X-T1” premium mirrorless camera to take advantage of the fully weather-resistant system.

  • * Technology for forming a nano-sized irregular surface structure on the lens to reduce its surface reflection
1. Main Features
(1) Optically designed to draw out the maximum image quality as a flagship standard zoom lens
  • In order to achieve the best-in-class image quality, the fast standard zoom lens with a constant aperture of F2.8 consists of 17 elements in 12 groups. This includes three aspherical lens elements to control spherical aberration and distortion, and three ED glass lens elements to reduce lateral chromatic aberration (wide-angle) and axial chromatic aberration (telephoto), thereby achieving edge-to-edge sharpness across the entire zoom range.
  • Applying Fujifilm’s unique HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating) to the entire area of the lens surface ensures ghosting and flare are controlled for sharp, clear images. Also, using the newly developed Nano-GI coating technology, which alters the refractive index between glass and air, ghosting and flare are effectively reduced for diagonal incident light.
  • Nine rounded aperture blades create a smooth, circular bokeh. The suppression of spherical aberration to the ultimate extent contributes to produce beautiful bokeh at both the front and back.
  • By combining this lens with an X Series camera body** with Lens Modulation Optimiser*** (LMO) technology, the performance from the lens is improved even further. LMO corrects for diffraction*4 to produce images with edge-to-edge sharpness and create a realistic three-dimensional effect, even at small apertures.
  • ** Supported by the “FUJIFILM X-T1”, “FUJIFILM X-T1GS” and “FUJIFILM X-E2” as of January, 2015.
  • *** Fujifilm’s own image processing function that corrects the optical effects of diffraction, based on the optical performance of each lens.
  • *4 Phenomenon that occurs when the shooting with a narrow aperture in which fine images that should originally be sharp become blurred.
(2) High-speed, quiet auto focus thanks to the Linear Motor
  • An Inner Focusing System*5 is used for high-speed AF. By reducing the weight of the focus lens and mounting the Twin Linear Motor, high-speed, quiet AF is possible. The fastest AF speed of 0.06 seconds brings comfort to your photo-shoot when by combining this lens with an X Series camera body** offering Phase Detection AF. Combined with the near-silent shutter sound, photos can be taken unnoticed in quiet locations.
  • As AF operates using a signal from the imaging sensor, extremely high-precision focusing is possible.
  • *5 Method for moving the small lenses in the middle and rear sections of the lens, without moving the large lenses composing the front of the lens.
(3) Weather resistant, dust-resistant and -10°C low-temperature operation
  • With weather-sealing at 14 locations, the lens is weather-resistant, dust-resistant and -10°C low-temperature operation, making it the perfect companion for the X-T1, which has the same levels of protection.
(4) High build quality and comfortable operation
  • Both the focus and aperture rings are metal, plus metal is also used on the exterior of the lens body for a high-quality finish. Thanks to long-term experience and broaden knowhow for other top-end professional lens fields such as Broadcasting and Cinema Scope, the texture and torque on the rings makes for comfortable shooting even for delicate manual focusing. The lens mount is made from brass for improved strength.
  • Combined with a camera body, the lens is approximately 60% of the weight of a full-size system*6, considerably reducing the burden on the photographer for astonishing ease of use.
  • The AF+MF function enables seamless manual focusing. After pressing the shutter to autofocus on the subject, fine adjustments can then be made using the manual focus ring.*7
  • *6 Fujifilm research.
  • *7 A function allowing seamless manual focusing by rotating the focus ring while pressing the shutter halfway during AF lock. A firmware upgrade is required for the camera body in order to use this function.
    (Applicable models: X-Pro1 / X-E1 / X-E2 / X-T1 / X-T1GS)
