Fujifilm will NOT Announce any New X/GFX Gear on August 13

A dpr forum member has been told by a camera store owner that a Fujifilm sales person told them there will be a big Fujifilm release on August 13.

The dpr member writes:

Today I was in a local camera store and one of the salespeople said they were told a “big” Fujifilm release would be announced on 13th August, but didn’t have any more information.

The rumor is now spreading quickly, and I hate to be the one, who destroys your excitement.

But all I can tell you is that no X/GFX gear will be announced on August 13.

Release Timeline for Fujifilm X-T4, X-H2, X-T40, X-Pro3, X100V, X-E4, X-T200 and X-A6 Based on Fuji’s Previous Camera Releases

Fujifilm Timeline

Almost 1 year ago, I published a release timeline of Fujifilm cameras, and, based on that timeline, I made guesses on when a successor could come.

Turns out that, so far, our timeline was pretty accurate. In fact, based on Fuji’s release schedule, we predicted:

  • Prediction: X-T30 in February 2019 – Reality: January 2019 – Accuracy: 1 month off
  • Prediction: X-Pro3 in January 202o – Reality: around October 2019 – Accuracy: about 3 months off

Now I thought it’s time to update our timeline, because:

  • some cameras have already been announced (X-T30) and others will be announced soon (X-Pro3)
  • this time we include cameras not listed last time (X-T200 and X-A6)

Down below you find the updated release timeline for:

The X-T4/X-H2 Grain of Salt Corner

Keep in mind that this camera replacement timeline is NOT based ON RUMORS, but on past camera release schedule of Fujifilm.

Hence, take it with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to Fujifilm X-H2 and Fujifilm X-T4 release. The timing between X-H1 and X-T3 has proven to be very damaging for X-H1 sales, so there might be some changes here.

In fact, according to our sources, the Fujifilm X-H2 might not even come in 2020! But I want to wait for more details and confirmations, before changing the below timeline.

Speaking of X-H2 and X-T4, the FujiRumors community has voted on various Fujifilm X-H2 and X-T4 release timing options. Check out the poll results here (I voted for the option currently on the 3rd position).

Why Fujifilm GFX Medium Format System is Future Proof and Tony Northrup’s GFX Pessimism is Unjustified

The Future of GFX

And then it became clear to me: Fujifilm medium format has a glorious future ahead. :)

Just two thing before we start:

  • Tony Northrup shared a video (see below), where he didn’t sound very confident about the GFX future. I thought about it, and the result is the article below
  • This article is based on the assumption, that in future only higher end cameras are 100% safe from the smartphone attack, since professional photographers won’t ever switch to smartphones for their Pro work

2 minutes reading time (or just 15 seconds if you jump directly to the conclusions ;) )

  • Fujifilm 2016 – The Statment

In 2016, Fujifilm Managers Makoto Oishi and Fuji Guy Billy said in this interesting interview:

When the global shutter sensor comes to be, it will be a big change just to the whole camera industry, taking away all the limitations of current electronic shutters. […]

If the GFX has global shutter, so we can imagine something new. A smaller body.

So let’s talk about it.

FUJINON Premista PL Mount Cine Lenses Cover Fujifilm GFX sensor

Michael Bulbenko from Fujifilm said in an interview (video below) that the recently introduced PL-mount (and super expensive) Fujinon Premista 28-100mm T2.9 and Fujinon Premista 80-250mm T2.9-3.5 cover the Fujifilm GFX100 sensor.

Hence, you can use them with a PL to G mount adapter.

The Fujifilm manager also said, that they do not plan to release a G mount version of their Fujinon Premista lenses.

While talking about the Fujifilm GFX100 color reproduction, Michael says: “as weired as it sounds, we are a film company, so we know how to get colors right“. I like that!

FujiRumors already told you that the same guy, who developed the Velvia film, has been involved also in the Velvia digital film simulation development.

Fujifilm Announces New Neopan ACROS 100 II Film – Shipping Fall 2019

Neopan ACROS 100 II

Over the last few years, FujiRumors had to sadly document how Fujifilm was discontinuing one film after another, and raising price on others.

For Acros 100 lovers, the bad news came back in April 2018, when Fujifilm officially announced they will discontinue this much-loved film.

Hope came a couple of months later, when the news arose here, that Fujifilm was considering to bring back Acros 100.

Now Fujifilm finally announced, that they will bring back Acros 100 in fall 2019.

This is made possible, because Fujifilm developed a new Acros 100 II film, by replacing some materials that became difficult to obtain and by adapting the manufacturing process to the new material.

I do hope that Fujifilm can bring back other discontinued film by using new technology and materials, too.

Laowa 17mm f4 Zero-D for Fujifilm GFX Coming Soon for $1,249

Laowa 17mm f4 Zero-D GFX

The wait was longer than expected, but it seems that the Laowa 17mm f/4 Zero-D GFX will come soon.

It will be priced at $1,249 and down below the google translated version from the Chinese site xitek.

The Laowa 17mmF4 lens is a super wide-angle zero-distortion lens tailored for Fuji medium format players. The equivalent full frame size is 13.5mm and the field of view angle is 113°, allowing Fuji medium format players to experience a wider picture without switching. Expected listing price of $1,249

When I visited Venus Optics at Photokina 2018, they told me the Laowa 17mm f/4 for GFX will come in December 2018, later on they told me it will come in March 2019. Well, now let’s hope that the wait is really soon over!

Also, some specs have changed now as opposed to the one displayed at Photokina. The aperture blades now seem to be 5 instead of 7 (a typo?).

For your convenience, I have translated the latest specs list appeared today in China and compared it to the ones I photographed at the Venus Optics booth at Photokina 2018.

Brought to you first, here on FujiRumors ;)
