Fujinon XF 8mm F2.8, XF 10mm F2.8 and XF 15mm F2.8 Patents Spotted

New Fujifilm patents surfaced on the web. They are for the following Fujinon lenses:

  • Fujinon XF 8mm f/2.8
  • Fujinon XF 10mm f/2.8
  • Fujinon XF 15mm f/2.8

Probably just variation of patents shared in the last 10+ years, such as:

The patents have been spotted by the Japanese website asobinet.

And remember, Fujifilm has also patented this foldable smartphone, so that one has to come soon, too :).

More seriously: Fujifilm recently said they have 10 lenses currently under study. Look up at those to see a more realistic list of lenses that might come at some point.

Fujifilm X Summit on May 16: What is Coming and What Not, What is Rumored and What We Hope For

So Fujifilm has announced the Fujifilm X summit for May 16.

We reported about it earlier today and in that article I also said that our sources told us the Fujifilm GFX100SII will be announced on that day.

Now the question came up if that’s the only gear Fujifilm will announce. So let me try to give you an answer.

First things first: so far I have only been told about the Fujifilm GFX100SII coming mid May.

However, we also know Fujifilm has other gear in the pipeline for the first half of 2024:

The questions are:

  • will Fujifilm announce it all together?
  • does Fujifilm prefer to give the GFX100SII a dedicated launch day, and make a separate announcement for the X-T50 and the new kit lens?
  • did I share a wrong rumor?

Well… don’t worry. We don’t share wrong rumors here. Everything will happen as we tell you it will.

But I will contact our sources and see what they have to say about it. And as soon as I can I will share an update here on FujiRumors.

And beyond that?

Well, the only gear Fujifilm has pre-announced, is the Fujinon GF500mmF5.6, but that one is listed on the official G mount roadmap as coming sometimes in 2024. So it could be on May 16, but also later on.

What’s not coming is definitely the Fujifilm X-Pro4 and also no Fujifilm GFX100R.

Hopes?

Well, I am growing increasingly frustrated by the lack of a new X mount roadmap. I keep asking for a new one since years and Fujifilm keeps ignoring our wishes. So at this point I have no expectations anymore.

Anyway… answers will come. Some of them on May 16, but many other answers will come well before that.

Stay tuned on FujiRumors ;).

It Looks Like Fujifilm Can’t Get Rid of One of Its BEST Cameras (Despite Massive Discount) and Here is Why!

It started as a “Black Friday Only” deal back in November 2023, and it has since then been extended over and over again: the terrific rebate on the Fujifilm GFX100S.

Well, now the Fujifilm GFX100S got yet an other deal extension, and now the offer will run until June 9.

This likely suggests that, despite the significant rebate, Fujifilm can’t still clear the remaining stock at the pace they desire.

The Fujifilm GFX100S is arguably one of the very best cameras Fujifilm has ever launched (and I say this as a guy, who owned lots of Fujifilm cameras, including the Fujifilm GFX100S, which I still own with great joy).

But despite my love for my Fujifilm GFX100S, which GFX camera would I opt for if I were entering the system for the first time today?

Well, I would go for the Fujifilm GFX100II.

I had the luck to go hands-on with the Fujifilm GFX100II shortly after announcement, and there were a couple of things that just convinced me:

  • the excellent build quality
  • the superior autofocus over my GFX100S (includes all subject tacking modes)
  • the EVF is the best one ever put into any digital camera
  • the ergonomics are fantastic
  • Reala Ace is wonderful
  • and more…

You can read my first impressions here:

Now, it is clear that the huge GFX100S deal is intended to bring new users into the GFX system. But I think that those, who are looking to get into the GFX system, will go straight for the GFX100II anyway.

The Fujifilm GFX100II is the flagship model, and it will remain so for a long time, even after the launch of the Fujifilm GFX100SII.

And if people are going to spend that much money on a new system anyway, they might well go just for the most future proof model: the one with the best specs and also most likely to be treated with lots of firmware love for years to come.

So it is understandable that Fujifilm struggles to sell the Fujifilm GFX100S. The only thing I could imagine working, would be an even deeper discount. If Fujifilm would sell if for $3,500, they’d make no money or even a loss out of it, but they could start cashing in on lenses that those new GFX100S shooters would buy.

With all that said: the Fujifilm GFX100S is well worth the discounted price. It’s a fantastic camera and unless you really need the best autofocus, it is still a great pick. And this is also why, as a current GFX100S owner, I have not yet upgraded to the GFX100II. I use it mostly for landscape photography, where autofocus is not really that important.

But if you want a more versatile GFX camera, one that takes great landscape shots, but also has solid eye tracking and deals with moving subjects better than the GFX100S, has better IBIS and many more features overall, the go for the Fujifilm GFX100II.

NiSi Athena 18mmT2.2, 40mmT1.9 and 135mmT2.2 for Fujifilm G Mount Announced

NiSi just announced new NiSi Athena Prime lenses:

These lenses will cost about 1.3K each with the trio-combo costing $3,499 and the 5-Lens Kit combo costing $5,798.

The new Athena lenses add up to already available G mount NiSi Athena lenses:

These are Full Frame Cine lenses but there is also a Fujifilm G mount version of them, but that one has no drop-in filter option and can’t fully cover the large format GFX sensor, as reported by CineD. So I guess you best use these lenses in the 35mm crop mode on GFX.

Top 3 News in February that Passed Almost Unnoticed (but Shouldn’t)

I recently published the usual top 10 articles of the month article (for February), and I believe three news are missing in there, that should have gained much more attention than what they did.

And I get it: we had Fujifilm X-Pro4 rumors, X100VI announcement, Fujifilm X-T40 rumors and more. So these “smaller” news tends to get lost in the buzz of the big rumors and announcements.

But I really think you guys should not miss out on them, hence we are going to share them in this dedicated article

Huge possible news for GFX

As a GFX shooter myself, this is one bit of news that I have waited for many years: the possibility expressed by Sigma CEO to offer autofocus lenses for the GFX system.

This would be HUUUGE!

Tamron Finally Gets It

Finally Tamron seems to understand: they need to put an aperture ring on their lenses!

Future X mount Lenses

Fujifilm has officially listed 10 lenses that they are currently considering to eventually make in future. No all can come, but maybe some. And they did ask 200 journalists to vote their favorite lenses.

Well, FujiRumors thought that 200 votes might not be enough. So we launched a survey and asked you guys which lenses you’d like to get.

We are currently at 6K+ votes, but ideally we should break the 10K+ mark.

The more vote, the more Fujifilm will take our results seriously.
