Fujifilm GFX Image Roundup

Hold on! Don’t say “Yet another GFX article” :) You can skip it if you want, and read the other two articles shared today, that are not (or not exclusively) GFX centric, like the X-E3 rumor here or the miXed zone here.

This post is just here to enjoy a tiny fraction out of the terrific amount of images shared over at our 11,000+ members strong GFX facebook group from all around the world. And the fact that they have been taken with GFX, is just secondary, compared to the beauty of the shots.

There is talent in the group, and I have the pleasure to share it with you :). So today, let’s see Madagascar, Italy, Russia and more through the eye of the GFX (also with a lot of adapted lenses)

Believe me, it costs me a ton of time to make these “image roundups”. But I am highly motivated to invest this time into it, because I know you guys appreciate that your images get the maximum visibility here on FujiRumors, and also because it’s a welcome break from the usual huge news/rumors stream here on FR.

But images are just one thing. The 11,000+ members of the group are also extremely helpful, ready to give you advice and feedback. You don’t believe me? Well, then you better join and check it out by yourself ;)

Fujinon GF 110mm F2 WR LM and Fujifilm INSTAX Square Announcement April 19, 2017

Fujinon GF 110mm F2 WR LM
Fujinon GF 110mm F2 WR LM

Fujinon GF 110mm F2 WR LM

The Fujinon GF 110mm F2 WR LM will be announced on April 19. Just two days after my birthday :) .

Earlier this year, the estimated price of the 3 remaining GF lenses, including the Fujinon GF 110mm F2 WR LM, surfaced on the web. I reported about it already in the past here, but here is the rumored price again:

  • GF23mmF4 = $2599
  • GF45mmF2.8 = $1699
  • GF110mmF2 = $2799

Please take them with a grain of salt, not only because they could be wrong, but also because the price leaked a few months ago… enough time for Fujifilm to change the price tag.

My personal guess though, is that you should not be surprised if the GF110mm costs more than $2,800.

Along with the Fujinon GF 110mm F2 WR LM, Fujifilm should also announce the new Instax Square cameras, the already leaked Instax Square SQ and Instax Square SQ10.

The Instax Square SQ10 will be a hybrid digital/film camera. All details here.

Fujifilm GFX 50s: “$10,000 for Body + 2 Lenses? It’s Totally F***ing Worth!” :: Aurora Timelapse with the GFX

This Fujifilm GFX 50s Roundup is brought to you entirely by the Fujifilm GFX facebook group, biggest source of inspiration for FujiRumors (and Co :) )

Fujifilm GFX 50s Review

Sebastian Lee (check out his instagram) is a very active Fujifilm GFX facebook group member, who shared many awesome images on the group and I had the pleasure to feature here on FujiRumors already.

Well, he now completed his Fujifilm GFX review, and it’s a great real world review that includes also wonderful images. And btw, he uses also a Sony A7rII (oh, well, he sold it now :) ) and could also test the Hasselblad X1D.

You can read his review at sebimagery here. Here an excerpt:

But I must tell you…there is something about it [the look of the images]. […] I’m just very pleased with the images coming out of the GFX. Now keep in mind my day to day camera is a 42MP Sony A7R2. This is only a 8MP bump going to the GFX. But there’s just (enter W. Shatner voice) some….thing about the images. Hell…maybe there is some magic after all?

[…]

Maybe I’m just becoming a better photographer….haha…nah it’s gotta be magic. Maybe it’s just a illusion in my head. I simply don’t care…I’m really enjoying this camera and right now it looks like I’m going to be buying one. I took the first step and sold my A7R2 last week.

Are my photos any better? Nope I don’t think so. Are they a little sharper…yeah…the details are better and sharper by a little bit. I look at 200% and 300% shots and I’m constantly impressed with the images and I simply enjoy shooting with it. But it’s not twice as good….

[…] for portraits, macro/detail and land/cityscapes…this thing is a beast!

[…] And yeah, I get it, $10,000 for a body and two lenses is a significant investment and again…that magic question to most…”is it worth it?”. That’s up to you…for this dude….yeah…it’s totally f***ing worth it.”

Fujifilm GFX Technologies #7 (Viewfinder) :: Fujifilm’s MF Cameras GFX50s, GX617, TX-2 and GFX Vs. H5X

Fujifilm’s Medium Format Cameras: GFX50s, GX617, TX-2 at Annie Barton youtube

Fuji GFX-50S vs. $25K Medium Format H5X Camera at lensprotogo:

In conclusion, this new Fuji will certainly open the medium format door for some photographers who couldn’t quite stomach the typical price range of medium format digital backs–and in addition there are some really fun aspects that the Fuji brings to the table. The low light functionality, it’s smaller and lighter form factor, and the ability to share images socially while on the job are some of my favorite perks. If this came at a huge deficit image wise I might look past it, but it was able to stand up for itself in detail/color/quality.”

Fujifilm just published the 7th episode of their GFX technologies series, called “The Development of the Ultimate Finder”:

The finder’s view is very pleasing to the photographer’s eye. Generally speaking, if you go as high as 0.85x magnification ratio, aberrations will be very noticeable. Thanks to the luxurious lens construction, the EVF achieves minimal distortion and color aberration to deliver clear and sharp images.”

“Guys, I Got a Serious Problem: After Testing two Days the GFX, How Can I Go Back Shooting with my Sony A7r2?” (GFX Member Aziz)

Aziz Nasuti wrote on the Fujifilm GFX facebook page here:

Guys, I got a serious problem here: after shooting two days with GFX (testing) how I go back and shoot with my Sony A7r2 :( “

As to expect, the comment section is running hot, and Aziz explains:

I am 100% honest with you, not paid by Fuji. This camera is absolutely the best camera that I ever had. It is amazing in low light and boosting shadows and recovering the highlights. Now it doesn’t offer the best lens combination but it will come with the time.

[…] the GFX is much richer in depth and really deliver cleaner images.”

Fujifilm GFX 50s Review at PhotographyBlog: “Simply Outstanding IQ, Endless Details and Excellent Noise”

Photographyblog just posted their full Fujifilm GFX 50s review. From the conclusions:

Still image quality is simply outstanding, with seemingly endless detail thanks to the 50 megapixel sensor, huge depth of field that makes it easy to isolate your subject, and excellent noise performance from ISO 100-3200. The two new GF lenses that we tested the GFX 50S with are both excellent performers too, if unsurprisingly pricey, with the 63mm proving to be a great walk-around lens and the 120mm very capable for both macro work and portraiture.

The GFX 50S also impresses when it comes to performance and operation. It almost instantly starts up, and the contrast-based auto-focus system is quick enough to keep up with moving subjects, making the GFX quicker and more versatile than the sloth-like Hasselblad X1D. […] we did miss having a dedicated exposure compensation dial, as on the X-T2, and some of the buttons are rather too small for their own good.

In summary, the Fujifilm GFX 50S is a very impressive debut in the embryonic medium-format mirrorless camera market, and perhaps more importantly, it’s simply a lovely camera to use and one which delivers stellar image quality with the minimum of fuss.

The Complete Sony a6500 vs. Fujifilm X-T2 Comparison :: Fujifilm GFX 50s Vs. Hasselblad X1D Studio Scene Comparison

Sony A6500 Vs Fujifilm X-T2

Mat & Heather from Mirrorlessons just shared their complete comparison between the Fujifilm X-T2 Vs. Sony A6500. It’s as usual a very well done and detailed comparison. From the handling, the controls, the menu, the viewfinder, autofocus, and of course also high ISO, dynamic range and image quality overall. Excellent work, Mirrorlessons!

And who’s the winner? Well, it depends. Mirrorlessons says:

Choose the Sony a6500 if:

  • you want better video features (picture profiles, 120fps in Full HD, etc.)
  • you want to take advantage of 5-axis stabilisation with lenses that lack OSS
  • you can’t live without a touch screen (works for the AF only)
  • you want a more compact body

Choose the Fujifilm X-T2 if:

  • you want better usability thanks to the numerous dials and dual SD card slot
  • you want a larger EVF (it’s one of the best on the market)
  • you want a better selection of APS-C lenses
  • you like the idea of “downloading” a new camera every now and then

Read (and enjoy) the full comparison at mirrorlessons here.

Fujifilm GFX Vs. Hasselblad X1D

As probably many of you guys, I’m also curious about the ongoing Hasselblad X1D review at dpreview. They just shared their first impressions, and what’s relevant for Fuji Lovers, is that their studio scene samples now include also the Hasselblad X1D.

So yes, it’s time to pixel peep and compare the Hasselblad X1D (specs&price) with the Fujifilm GFX 50s (specs&price).

Although, I remind you that Fujifilm said that current Fujinon GF lenses are not used at their full potential, since they are designed to to resolve 100+ Megapixel. So it will be interesting to see if, once the 100 megapixel BSI Medium Format sensor comes true, the results will be still quite close or if the Fujinon glass will then start to shine and set apart the competition :)

So, check out the the Hasselblad First Impressions of dpreview here. And for the pixel peeping, go to their studio samples here.
