As you would have read on my last two blogs, I had recently sold off all of my Nikon gear over the last year or so and replaced everything with Fuji equipment. I have extensively used my 18-135 lens and the marvellous little 35mm f2. The 18-55 I never liked (not sharp or very useful wide open at the 18 or 55 end), so that was sold recently on ebay. However, the 55-200 kind of sat there in no-man’s land and never really got used. I did a commercial shoot last year where I had to shoot over 25 models for our local TAFE (Technical and Further Education). The girls were graduating from their Makeup and Beauty Course, and I was asked to photograph the models for their portfolios. Of course the 55-200 was the perfect choice for that occasion. The photos looked great and everybody was very pleased with the results.

One of the models from the shoot with the 55-200 lens.

After that – I kind of popped the lens back into the camera cupboard and forgot about it. I had thought long and hard about the lenses I would take on the month trip to Myanmar at Christmas, but because the 55-200 lens was not sealed, it did not even get on the short list. I ended up specifically purchasing the 18-135 because of the weather sealing. I had been to Myanmar on two prior occasions and I remembered how unbelievably dusty and dirty it can be over there (especially Mandalay and Hsipaw).

Fujifilm X-T2 Image Printed on Huge Billboard for Nike :: Fujinon XF 50mmF2 WR Vs. XF 56mmF1.2

Anyone who Questions X-T2 APS-C images…

… can’t do big prints?

In these days, where we are all stunned by the resolution of the Fujifilm GFX, Sean Marc Lee shows that the 24MP APS-C can already print big. In fact, he shoot an image for Nike with his X-T2 and it was printed on a huge billboard. He used the X-T2 w/ 35mm f2.2 1/125.

So yes, also APS-C Fuji’s can get the job done :) You can see the image at Marc’s instagram here. Also from the same campaign, check out in Chinese hypebeast.

Fujinon XF 50mm F2 WR Vs. XF 56mm F1.2

Jordan just shared his XF50mmF2 Vs. XF56mmF1.2 comparison at admiringlight here:

both are very good lenses. The 56mm f/1.2 is sharper at similar apertures over most of the frame, though the 50mm f/2 is a touch sharper at the edges at f/2. Bokeh is a fairly close race, and as both are quite sharp, and both have nice renderings, I’d consider the other factors when choosing between the two.”

What’s Next From Fujifilm? … and First 2017 Rumor Check (100% Correct Rumors)

Two or three times a year, I feel like I need to put a bit of order in the whirlwind of rumors, and give you guys a well-ordered overview of the rumors shared so far this year by FujiRumors.

It’s also the opportunity for me to check back the accuracy of all the rumors I’ve shared this year.

So high time for some facts:

  • 229 blog post published so far in 82 days (2017)
  • 36 rumors shared in 82 days (2017)
  • 12 rumors still to be verified
  • 24 correct rumors out of 24 verifiable rumors
  • 0 wrong rumors out of 24 verifiable rumors
  • 100% correct rumors

Sure, there are still 12 rumors that have to be verified, not all will be correct (because they are wrong or Fujifilm will change plans), but I’d say of the 12 remaining, I wouldn’t be surprised if most are correct.

A big hug goes to all sources, from the most anonmyous to the most trusted one, who decided to help me to find the right path in the fake rumor jungle and to put excitement in the Fuji world by sharing accurate rumors. You make being an Fuji shooter even more fun :-)

Also, thanks to everybody, who spotted some interesting Fuji related news/rumor/deal/review on the web, and took his/her time to drop me an email with the link to it. Much appreciated… and feel free to keep it up.

thanks to all,

NOTE 2: The firmware announcement of March 23 says that this feature will come via Firmware, but only to X-T2. This sounds very strange to me. Could be an error of Fujifilm. I’ll wait for the firmware to come out, and if indeed the X-Pro2 does not get this feature, move this rumor in the wrong rumors section

Replace Your Standard MacOS Icons with Super Cool Fujifilm Cameras Icons! – UPDATE: Windows Version, too

My Desktop looks much cooler with the New Fuji Icon :)
My Desktop looks much cooler with the New Fuji Icon :)

Fuji Icons for Mac

Fujifilm X100F facebook group member Pawel is still waiting for his X100F, and in the meantime, he tried to manage his impatience by creating some cool Fuji X and G icons to replace the standard MacOS (or Windows) ones.

As you can see in the screenshot above, I’ve already created the X-T2 icon for my Mac (even though I don’t own it). But there are currently a total of 8 icons you can chose (X-T2 black, GFX, X-T2 with grip, X-Pro2 graphite, X100F black, X100F silver, X-20 black and X-T20 silver).

The procedure to change the icon is super easy:

1. Open the info panel of the folder you want to change (Command+i), 2. Locate its icon preview in the left top corner. 3 drag the new icon to this place. Et voila!

And now all you need is the link. It has been originally shared by Pawel at the X100F group here. But since not everybody is part of the closed group or does not have facebook at all, here is the direct dropbox link :) – Windows + Mac

UPDATE: Fujifilm GFX facebook group member Peter made the windows version of the icons. You can download them via GFX facebook group here or my dropbox here.

UPDATE 2: X-E2 Windows Icons: X-E2 silver, X-E2 black

UPDATE 3: Icons for lenses

UPDATE 4: more links in the comments

Pawel, you are GENIUS!!! :)

stay tuned,

Fujifilm Manager: “Next Generation APS-C Sensor Will Still be X-Trans. Mirrorless Will Maybe Beat DSLR’s In Every Aspect With Next Processor / Sensor Generation”

DPreview interviewed well-known Fujifilm Managers Toshihisa Iida, Makoto Oishi and Shinichiro Udono.

The focus of the interview is on the GFX, but they also talk about the APS-C line, the MK Cine Lenses, and the new X100F.

And one thing we can say for sure now: there will be an X-Trans IV sensor in the next generation APS-C cameras.

  • Future GF Lens requests from photographer: telephoto lenses, in the 200-300mm range. Wide-angle, like a 15mm equivalent, and an equivalent to the 70-200mm on full-frame.
  • In order to beat DSLR’s, Mirrorless has to improve speed and viewfinder blackout. “Maybe one more processor and sensor generation should be enough to make mirrorless beat DSLRs in every respect”.
  • With the new MK cine lenses “we’re looking at a new kind of video customer, who’s getting into the market via mirrorless. Mostly they’re using SLR lenses, which aren’t perfect. So a lot of those customers are looking for more affordable cinema lenses.”
  • X100F same lens of X100/S/T: We looked into whether we should change it, but it would have affected the size of the camera, and we concluded that the form-factor is one of the most important selling-points of the X100 series.
  • Q: Will X-Trans continue in the next generation of APS-C sensors? A: For APS-C, definitely. For the GFX format, we’ll probably continue with the conventional bayer pattern. If you try to put X-Trans into medium format, the processing gets complicated, and the benefit isn’t very big. X-Trans is a 6×6 filter arrangement, not 4×4, it’s something like a 20-30% increase in processing requirement.

Fujifilm Plans Fujinon XF 18mm F2 Mark II Lens (SRP)

Fujinon XF 18mm F2 Mark II

According to a source, right in the past (SRP), the Fujinon XF 18mm F2 Mark II is high on Fuji’s “To Do” list.

We recently launched the Ultimate X-Series Lens Poll here on FujiRumors. In case you missed it, check out the results here. All I will anticipate now is that the Fujinon XF 18mm F2 Mark II is indeed very high on the FR-community wish-list (currently #5 out of 30 lenses).

I owned the XF 18mm F2, but sold it to get some money to buy the 12mm Samyang and the Fujinon XF 18-135. My reasoning was that I don’t really need it anymore, owning the 18-55 and 18-135 that cover the 18mm focal length. However, I have to say that I regret selling it, since I miss the compact size of the 18/2. I was almost about to pull the trigger on the 27mm pancake to finally have a very compact lens again, but after this rumor I guess I will hold on a little bit more… ;)

The XF18mmF2 was also Nate’s choice for his One Year, One Lens World Travel.
