Fuji X-T2 for Documentary Wedding Photography. Now I can!

guest post by Andrea Bagnasco: www.andreabagnasco.itFacebook.com/andreabagnascopicturesInstagram.com/andreabagnasco

My name is Andrea Bagnasco and I am a professional wedding photographer based in Northern Italy. My style is mainly documentary, in that I like to stay as unobtrusive as possible during the day to capture the candid moments that make the story of the wedding.

Like most everybody else, I’ve been relying on full-frame dslr’s for years to shoot my weddings. I’ve been adopting the Canon 5D cameras from the beginning until the Mark III model. They have always been great cameras to work with: very reliable with excellent image quality and have been improving significantly every time a new model was released, especially concerning noise at high ISOs, dynamic range and autofocus. Which are all most important factors for my type of photography, mostly done with available light.

Over the years I’ve been trying to strip down my kit as much as I could as weddings have become endurance marathons and hauling around heavy equipment the whole day is a sure way to get to the end of the wedding completely exhausted and devoid of any creativity or energy to take good photographs. No matter how good and nourishing the vendor meal or my level of physical fitness. Despite my determination to travel light, I’ve always been taking three camera bodies with me at weddings, where I’d have two cameras on me for most of the day and the third one as backup in the bag.

X-T2/Pro2 (and X-T1) Purple Grid Artifacts :: Does the X-T2 Get Hot :: Dump the 14 + 23 for the 10-24? ** Top FXF Threads & Images

shared by asgy photography Purple Grid Artifacts Image Error X-T2 (and X-pro 2) with backlight.
NOTE
As you will see in the thread, I’ve shared a sample taken recently with my X-T1 + 35/1.4, where I recreate the same issue. I actually do not consider it an issue (at least on my X-T1) because it hardly ever occurs (even if I try hard to re-create it appositely), and if it occurs, I can make the artifacts disappear by very slightly changing the angle. Moreover, I hear about the same issue occuring with other mirrorless camera brands. It might be an issue more or less common to many mirrorless cameras, due to the reflection of the light hitting the sensor on the rear element of the lens.
My Personal Conclusion: For me, this has absolutely no influence on my real life shooting. And if you check out the images below, you will see X-T2 backlit images taken with no artifacts at all. So personally I do not care about this. And how rare this issue is, is proven by the fact, that in all these years, nobody ever complaint about grid artifacts on the X-T1… at least until today… ;)

Fujifilm X-T2 Firmware ver. 1.10 Available for Download at Fujifilm China (Now Removed) – Full Details of the Update

x-t2-fw-1-10-details

As you know, Fujifilm originally planed to release FW 1.10 for the Fujiflm X-T2 on October 29. It has then been postponed to November 8. But yet another bug forced Fujifilm to delay the release even further. The new deadline is November 29.

But apparently Fujifilm China was not aware of the delay, since they published the Fuji X-T2 firmware ver.1.10 file on their site. It has since then been removed, but an attentive Fujirumors readers grabbed a screenshot and even downloaded the file.

I won’t share the file here, since it’s buggy and I don’t recommend anybody to load it on their X-T2. However, what I will share, is the list of updates that Fujifilm introduced with the new Firmware (kindly translated by our Chinese FR-reader – thanks!)

The FR-reader told me that the improvement notes are a bit of confusing, because the Chinese version was very likely badly translated from Japanese.

1. Take shots thru USB from PC.

Use below software for remote control.

a) Download “FUJIFILM remote plug-in PRO” from Adobe Add-ons website.

b) Download “FUJIFILM remote plug-in” from Adobe Add-ons website. T2 will support the 1.3 version.

c) Buy HS-V5 software.

2. Lock operations while shooting.

3. Screen will display shutter speed when disable AE and turn on auto ISO and aperture priority.

4. Fix overexposure with AF-C.

5. Fix AF unusable with XF18-135mmF3.5-5.6R LM WR.

6. Fix system hung with “PC auto save” setting.

7. Improve compatibility for Nissin i40

UPDATE: New Firmware for Fujifilm X-T2 (ver.1.10) on Thursday… and New Firmware for Fuji X-T1

 photo KAIZEN_zps1fdb780f.png

The Fujifilm X-T2 will get a new Firmware (ver. 1.10) and it should be available for download on Thursday. Of course, keep in mind the (many) lessons we have learned from the past: last minute bugs can always happen and force Fujifilm to postpone everything.

UPDATE: As FR-readers pointed out in the comments, the Firmware will apparently make the Nissin i40 work again on the X-T2 without any need of a firmware update by Nissin. I can’t confirm this for now.

Fujifilm will also release a new Firmware for the X-T1. I’m not sure if it will come on the same day of the X-T2 Firmware and what it will about, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Fuji would give us one last nice Kaizen Firmware ;)

Fujifilm GFX Listed for Sale for $8,500 (with lens) at Vietnamese Fuji Premium Reseller :: POLL: How Much Would you Pay for the GFX?

fujifilm-gfx-pre-order

Fujifilm GFX – Price

Official Vietnamese Fujifilm Premium Reseller (with Fujifilm Showroom) Phú Quang Camera has the Fujifilm GFX with GF 63mm listed for sale for 189.900.000 VND ($8,500 – €7,700) here. They also say it will ship in February 2017. – thanks to the FR-reader for the link :)

Now, I don’t think that, at this stage, Fujifilm has set a 100% final price on the GFX. The camera is still in development and Fujifilm can change the supposed price tag anytime until its launch. And as indicated by dpreview here and by Swiss Fujifilm Managers here, the camera is more likely to hit the market in Spring (early spring according to the Swiss Manager)

At the moment, the only official statement Fujifilm made is that the Fujifilm GFX will cost “way under $10,000 (exlcuding tax)“.

Well, let’s grab this occasion to launch a survey. Sure, we all want it as cheap as possible, but the poll is about how much you would spend ** maximum ** on the Fujifilm GFX + 63mm. What’s your uppermost investment limit?

UPDATE: Metz will launch the METZ MECABLITZ M400. HSS and TTL Fujifilm X Compatible. More here (translation)

Fujifilm & Flash… a long (and often painful) story. However, over the last years, we have seen some improvements, and some companies, like Nissin, started to support Fujifilm X-series cameras.

But it’s when you think that things go better, that Fuji is able to make it worst again ;)

In fact, with the launch of the X-T2, Fujifilm also introduced changes in the flash protocol to support the EF-X500 flash system. New protocol… and hence flashes that work on the X-T1 are now no more supported on the X-T2.

The good news is: everything can (hopefully) be fixed with Firmware updates.

So here is a Recap:
