Fujifilm launches “FUJIFILM X Webcam” to Run Your Fujifilm X/GFX Cameras as a Webcam

Fujifilm has just launched FUJIFILM X Webcam, which will allow you to run some Fujifilm cameras as a webcam.

A few notes from FujiRumors:

  • It is only for PC… but…
  • also the much praised Canon Webcam Utility software is PC only
  • it looks to be compatible with the same list of cameras that you can tether with

If you are looking for a free solution to run your Fujifilm camera as a webcam on a Mac, this is your workaround.

Fujifilm Manager: Fujifilm X-H2, The Problem With Telephoto Primes, GFX MK II and IBIS, Fujifilm X80 vs Compact MILC, Fast Primes & More

Fujifilm UK manger Andreas Georghiades returns to the Fujicast postcast.

It’s an almost 1 hour podcast, and if you are in a hurry and can’t listen it all, I provide a summary of everything the manager says, so you can get it all in under 5 minutes.

The Interview Summed Up

Meet Fujifilm GFX Shooter Luca Locatelli, 2020 World Press Photo Award Winner

As you might know, photographers using Fujifilm cameras creamed off all the top awards at the World Press Photo Awards 2020.

Fujifilm X/GFX shooters’ triumph put even the most hardcore Fujifilm APS-C mockers like Mr.”LOL Fuji” into an uncomfortable position.

In fact, after tons of videos celebrating the infinite virtues of full frame and the horrible shortcomings of APS-C, when commenting the World Press Photo Awards, suddenly Mr. LOL Fuji showed a momentary lapse of reason, and said that the camera does not matter, but the results matter.

Sure, he was not yet able to say “damn, also those APS-C Fujifilm cameras can deliver bloody awesome and professional award winning results. Maybe I was wrong all the time“. But he will eventually get there, one day.

Deconstructing wrong believes and notions that are calcified deep in our nerdy brains can take time. But Fujifilm X shooters are cool cats, and will hug Mr. LOL Fuji big time, when this happens.

Just one tip, read the manual first, Mr. LOL Fuji… and be creative. Creativity is like having a 8×10 digital sensor in your brain. Trust me, inspiration matters more than which image is sharper if seen at 500% magnification ;).

Anyway, Fujifilm is continuing to interview the photographers behind those Award Winning images.

The first interview was with Alain Shroeder (we reported here), winner of the World Press Photo overall stories category. It’s an interesting one, make sure to check it out here.

This time they interview Luca Locatelli, 1st Prize for environment story in 2020 Word Press Photo Contest.

Fellow Fujifilm shooter Luca used a Fujifilm GFX100, hence a camera with a sensor 70% bigger than full frame (that’s for the nerdy folks able to read until here ;)).

He is interviewed by one of the most popular Fujifilm managers, Makoto Oishi.

Here is a summary of the interview:

Fujifilm USA New Big X/GFX Deals: Here are My Top 3 Deal Picks and Vote Your Favorites!

Fujifilm USA has just launched huge savings on X/GFX cameras and lenses. You can see the full list of deals here and down below.

But I wanted to highlight 3 deals, that are, in my opinion, the best ones this time around.

  • TOP 1: Fujifilm X-E3 (+bundle options)

Deal Price: $499 for the body / $799 with XF18-55 / $749 with XF23mmF2

As an owner of a lovely X-E3, I can safely say that this is a fantastic camera… IF… you are looking for a really compact interchangeable lens camera system. Sleek and clean design, great performance and frankly just good looking. Don’t buy it if you are left eye dominant (unless you have a Voldemort nose, as Trenton would say), but if you are right eye dominant (like me), then I tell you: this is the camera you want to take with you on travels. Strongest competitor: Fujifilm X-T20.

  • TOP 2: Fujifilm GFX50R with GF 50mm F3.5

Deal Price: GFX50R body $3,499 / GF 50mmF3.5 $499

Maybe some of you might argue that this should be considered the best deal of the Fujifilm Spring Sales. Maybe you are right, but there is a very scientific reason why it has to rank second: FujiRumors is an X-E fanboy ;).

With that said, with the Fujifilm GFX50R you get a relatively compact and high resolution medium format body with a 70% larger sensor than full frame for the same price of a full frame Sony A7rIV. Add to this a little prime lens that is capable of resolving 100+ megapixel images (the GF50mmF3.5) for just $499 and I’d understand if you’d tell me that this is, indeed, the best deal of this round.

  • TOP 3: Fujinon XF200mm f/2

Deal Price: $4,999 (including 1.4x teleconverter)

You know when all the vloggers moaned that there are no “full frame equivalent fast” APS-C lenses“? Well, the Fujinon XF200mmF2 is one of those lenses that made them all happy. And moreover, it performs incredibly well. Matt Granger said it is worth all of its $6,000. But also many others where blown away.

Sure, a lens like this is condemned to be and remain a niche lens. But now, at this price, it’s great value for the money. If you belong to that niche, now it’s a great time to get it.

  • Runner Up: Fujinon XF100-400mm

Deal Price: $1,399

With a hefty $500 rebate, this is a great deal on the longest Fujinon X mount lens you can get.

  • And you?

Do you agree with my list? Let me know and vote the “deal survey” at the bottom of this post.

Review of the Steelsring Nikon F to Fujifilm GFX Smart Autofocus Adapter

After a long wait, the Steelsring Nikon F to Fujifilm GFX Smart Autofocus Adapter started to be available towards the end of 2019.

You can find it here on AmazonUS.

No Dylan published his review, which you can see below. Here are the main points:

  • it’s not the cheapest adapter
  • allows you to autofocus with the more modern Nikon G and E type lenses
  • good build quality
  • mounting on GFX mount does not sound quite as smooth as mounting a GFX lens on the body or a Laowa lens. On the other side, the Nikon mount part feels good
  • ability to control aperture
  • you have an aperture ring on the adapter for G type lenses, and you can set it to AUTO for E type lenses
  • E type lenses with magnetic aperture can be controlled electronically via the GFX body
  • G type lenses are not really fully supported. Aperture control is purely mechanical and the adapter doesn’t actually know which position it is in. Aperture value is not send to the camera. The lens can only communicate to the body what its widest aperture is, but if you stop down, it is unable to tell you who much it stopped down
  • loose aperture ring
  • aperture stops are very close together, hence not easy to be accurate
  • autofocus speed depends a lot on the lens.
  • you will see wobbeling of the contast AF detect system
  • GFX100 phase detection system is not supported
  • You won’t get Nikon level focus speed, because the GFX system is not capable of that
  • if you accept an autofocus speed a bit slower than native GFX lenses, then it can work for you
  • there is more or less strong vignetting depending on the lens
  • wide open, sharpness is not quite as high as on Nikon cameras, as the Nikon lenses where not designed to resolve over such a large sensor. If you stop down, things get much better
  • for more sharpness better use GFX lenses

This is the summary of the video below. But Dylan posted an article about it also on fstoppers, that you can read here.
