Fujifilm X-M5 Black Kit Shipping

I have received messages from FR-readers (thanks), that also the black Fujifilm X-M5 kit has started shipping at BHphoto.

The black Fujifilm X-M5 is one of three cameras Fujifilm has officially declared will be pulled from pre-orders now because of the US tariffs.

Also the Fujifilm GFX100RF and the X100VI suffer the same faith.

23 Fujifilm Products Win Red Dot Design Award 2025 and This is How Much it Costs Fujifilm

23 Fujifilm products have won the Red Dot Design Award 2025.

As far as photography related gear goes, these are the winners:

This might cost Fujifilm at least 100K+ USD.

And I am not making this number up randomly.

In fact, RedDot has a public price list on how much licensing fees cost (something between 5K and 12K).

The most “basic” package is the “Winner Package Regular” which costs 4,900 Euro.

But depending on which package you purchase, you can also end up paying 12,800 Euro for a single award. Plus, you can also purchase optional extras that can cost many thousands of Euro on top of it. And then there are also the registration fees that have to be paid upfront.

So let’s assume Fujifilm went for the most basic package, they have spend 112,700 Euro (130,000 USD) to purchase the RedDot Brag Right awards.

And consider that Fujifilm is just one company. Tons of other companies pay lots of money too to “win” these awards. Now you can figure it our yourself how much money these “Award” companies make with these awards.

First Official Fujifilm X-Half Teaser Launched

Fujifilm has just published a video (see below) with the first teaser of a new camera and the catchphrase “Half the Size, Twice the Story“.

It is the long rumored Fujifilm X-Half, although in the comments to the various posts Fujifilm made I read about Fujifilm X-Pro4 (or X-Pro5) and Fujifilm X-E5 speculations.

But “Half Size, Twice the Story” perfectly matches with the way the camera operates and we explained it here.

How long until the announcement?

I don’t know. But as a reference, with the Fujifilm GFX100RF the announcement (March 20) happened about 2 weeks after the first teaser on March 6.

If we apply this to the Fujifilm X-Half, then it means the announcement could happen in very early May. But that’s not a rumor, just a speculation based on how Fujifilm managed teasers in the recent past.

Rumored Specs

Meet the Fujifilm X-Half – Fujifilm’s Upcoming Digital Half Frame Camera

When I first shared rumors about a 1″ inch sensor Fujifilm half frame camera coming, plenty of readers attacked me saying I mislead people by calling it a half frame camera.

The logic: it’s just a regular 1″ sensor, so it is not a proper half frame camera.

But…

… if the fact that it has a vertical LCD

… and the fact that it is intended to mainly create diptych images

… is not enough

… then here is another hint…

… the name of the camera will be Fujifilm X-Half.

I guess Fujifilm won’t call it “X-Half” because it is half as big as a Fujifilm GFX100RF.

My humble guess is that it will carry the name “X-Half” because Fujifilm will market it as a half frame camera. And if we look at how it works, then this might even make sense.

Fujifilm Half Frame Camera Registration Shows Sketches with Vertical LCD and Dimensions (FF240003)

For months this new camera registration has remained undetected by everybody.

Undiscovered, until fellow FR-reader Mistral stumbled on it and passed us this info (THANKS).

So what it is about?

On the 26th of February 2025, the camera registration FF240003 was published.

And looking at the details and sketches of the camera, it has to be the long rumored Fujifilm half frame camera, which we first rumored in October 2024.

Here is what we can see:

Overall we can now say it will look closer to the digital version of the Pentax 17 half frame rather than the Yashica Samurai X3.0.

So now we have two unreleased camera registrations:

  • FF250001 – Fujifilm X-E5 or Fujifilm GFX Eterna
  • FF240003 – Fujifilm Half Frame Camera

All of these cameras will still come in 2025.

But will there be even more? We investigated this question here.

Future Fujinon X Mount Lenses Proposed by Fujifilm (with Suggested Specs) – Vote What Should Be Next

Last year Fujifilm shared a list of 10 X mount lenses that are under consideration.

You guys voted and guess what? Fujifilm delivered (or will deliver soon) your top two most requested lenses.

The first one they gave us was the Fujinon XF500mmF5.6 and the next one will come this year, and it’s the Fujinon XF23mm pancake.

Now there are eight more on the list, and I thought it is high time to launch a new survey with the 8 remaining lenses to see if your wishes have changed also considering that in the meantime we got lenses from third parties like the Tokina atm-x 11-18mm f/2.8, which might change your priorities on what we need from Fujifilm next. Also, maybe the release of super compact cameras like the lovely Fujifilm X-M5 might now increase demand for certain lenses such as compact XC lenses.

So, feel free to vote what you want below.

Also, thanks a lot to Hiergeist for making a chart with approximate size of these potential future lenses based on preliminary details shared by Fujifilm itself, like size, weight and diameter.

You can read the potential specs shared by Fujifilm for all those lenses here.

My personal favorite?

Well, you might know how much I LOVE this lens here, so probably my top pick would be the one lens, that could replace it, such as the XF16-200mm. But let us know yours by voting below.

Fujinon XF23mm Pancake Specs Shared by Fujifilm and New Renderings

Back in early 2024 Fujifilm shared a list of 10 potential future Fujifilm X mount lenses.

And not only that, they also gave us approximately the main specs for such lenses.

One of those lenses already hit the market and it’s the Fujinon XF500mmF5.6. Now let’s compare the early Fujifilm specs to the final specs.

  • Super-Telephoto Prime lens XF 400mm or longer
    – 100-110mm diameter
    – 240-280 length
    – weight 1,300-1,400g
  • Fujinon XF500mmF5.6
    – 104 diameter
    –  255 length
    – weight 1,330g

We can see that the data provided back then by Fujifilm is very close to the specs of the final version.

So let’s see what the specs were that Fujifilm shared for the rumored to come in 2025 Fujinon XF23mm pancake lens.

Fujinon XF23mm pancake specs

  • size 20-40mm
  • 60-65mm diameter
  • Weight 80-100g

Let’s compare these specs to ones of the XF27mmF2.8 R WR and the XF23mmF2 “Fujicron”.

Looking at the specs it could be either a XF23mm replica of the XF27mmF2.8 R WR or be a bit larger, going more in the “muffin” direction as we can see in these XF23mm renderings.

FR-reader Hiergeist made a sketch based on the data provided by Fujifilm and you can see the result above.

You can see there is still quite some margin in terms of size (20 to 40mm length).

Feel free to let us know which size you prefer.

Also above you can see the silhouette of a potential XF23mm pancake as shared by Fujifilm early last year.

Fujifilm Gear Coming 2025 – Updated List and What’s Missing!

Last year we investigated how much gear Fujifilm launches every year (see list below). The result: between 2 to 4 cameras a year and 4 lenses a year.

So let’s see at which point we are in 2025 so far.

Gear (to be) released in 2025

So we have 4 cameras coming for sure in 2025, which matches Fujifilm’s best years in terms of number of cameras released. And while we can always hope for a 5th camera, it is also possible that in terms of cameras, this is all we get. What is sure: the Fujifilm X-Pro4 will not come in 2025.

If you look at lenses, Fujifilm has pretty much consistently released 4 lenses a year. So far we know of one coming for sure, the Fujinon GF32-90mmF3.5, and one being rumored, the Fujinon XF23mm pancake. If Fujifilm were to match the previous years, then there could be still 2 more lenses coming in 2025.

At this point in time, I have no idea which additional lenses could come, but I hope that maybe sources will reach out to us and give us a hint of what’s to come. And if that happens (and if sources agree), I will share it will all of you here on FujiRumors.

In the meantime, these are the lenses the FR community wants based on Fujifilm’s suggestions, and these are the most wanted lenses based on our own mega survey.

Gear released in 2024 – 4 cameras and 4 lenses

Gear released in 2023 – 2 cameras and 4 lenses

Gear released in 2022 – 3 cameras and 4 lenses

Fujinon XF23mm Pancake Lens Coming in 2025 – Renderings and Wishes!

We recently reported that Fujifilm will launch the Fujinon XF23mm pancake lens.

This reminded me of a guest post we shared in the past by Pablo, who made rendering about how such a lens could look like.

I thought that given the rumor, we could re-share his renderings and trigger a discussion about how you guys would like the Fujinon XF23mm to be.

Should it be ultra-mega compact and have an f/2.8 aperture? Or make it a big bigger but give it an f/2 aperture as in the renderings above, making it more of a “muffin-lens” rather than a “pancake-lens”?

As reference, you can see how such a XF23mm muffin-lens version would compare in size to the current Fujinon XF23mmF2 R WR. Too close in size? Better make it even smaller and f/2.8, making it closer in size to the Fujnon XF27mmF2.8 R WR?
