Unleash the X-Trans IV Power: X-Processor 5 to Boost Fujifilm X-S20 Video – Video Specs LEAKED

A while back I told you that there could be a huge potential in the combination between X-Trans IV and X-Processor 5.

Well, it looks like this combination will become real soon.

In fact, today we can finally tell you what many of you already saw coming: the Fujifilm X-S20 will use the X-Processor 5.

And in addition to that, our trusted sources (thanks!!!) told us that the Fujifilm X-S20 will be able to record 6K/30p and 4K/60p video.

We remind you that the Fujifilm X-S10 with the very same sensor can shoot 4K/30p max.

It looks like the combination between efficient and powerful X Processor 5 and fast sensor readout of 26MP X-Trans IV, is making it possible to put 6K/30p and 4K/60P into the small camera body of the Fujifilm X-S20, without having serious overheating issues that would make such a feature impracticable.

Considering the hybrid nature of this camera, 6K/30p and 4K/60p are a very welcome feature.

Why, Fujifilm? Three (Minor) Fujifilm Errors that Defy Any Explanation

We talk lots of good stuff about Fujifilm. And that’s right so, as they deserve it.

And yet, not everything Fujifilm does is right all the time.

In the past, I did run over 7 major errors Fujifilm did (or is doing) and wrote a dedicated article about it:

Today I’d like to focus on three errors that are for sure minor, but they are annoying anyway and show that sometimes Fujifilm really does not think it through.

Fujifilm Factory Tour: Meet Fujifilm’s Most Complex Gear to Manufacture and How Adjustment is Key to Image Quality

The French website Phototrend had the opportunity to visit the Fujifilm factory in Taiwa, Japan, which where many premium Fujifilm gear is made, but not only premium. For example, also Fujifim’s oldest X mount lens, the legendary Fujinon XF35mm F1.4 R is assembled here.

In this tour, Fujifilm will also tell you which is the most complex gear to manufacture. Spoiler: it’s this beast here, which consists of over 1,000 pieces!!!

There is lots of interesting stuff to read and see, but I found one sentence particularly interesting: “adjustment is the key to image quality“.

So while the assembly takes time and is indeed complex, all the micro-adjustments made during and after the assembly are crucial to ensure a consistent and high quality product.

Down is a quick summary where you can read all the details as well as some images.

Fujifilm X-T4 Discontinued (in Addition to X-Pro3, X-E4, X-T30II, GFX50R, GFX100)

Fellow FR-readers saw it coming already.

The Fujifilm X-T4 had been removed from the Japanese Fujifilm store back in September 2022 and also stores overseas started to mark it as discontinued.

Well, now it’s also time for BHphoto & Co to remove the Fujifilm X-T4 from their store, hence it’s now marked as discontinued also there.

The Fujifilm X-T4 joins lots of other Fujifilm cameras that are already marked as discontinued, such as the Fujifilm X-E4 (we reported back in March here), the X-T30II (we reported here), the Fujifilm X-Pro3 (we reported here), as well as the Fujifilm GFX50R and the Fujifilm GFX100.

But, trust me guys, don’t expect a Fujifilm X-Pro4, Fujifilm X-T40, Fujifilm X-E5, Fujifilm GFX50R replacement and Fujifilm GFX100 replacement to drop all on May 24, just because they are now discontinued.

DPReview Tests DxO DeepPRIME XD for Fujifilm X-Trans Files: “Make it Your Default Option for High-ISO Shots”

We recently reported about a comparison made between Canon R5 and Fujifilm X-H2, and we saw that the new DxO PureRAW 3 brings sensible benefits to the sharpness of the X-Trans files, whereas the same software does not really boost sharpness on the Canon R5 with Bayer sensor.

That’s why the reviewer ended up highly recommending to add PureRAW 3 to your Lightroom editing workflow in order to get best results.

In that article, I also told you that you should definitely try out the very new DeepPrime XD X-Trans support for Fujifilm X-Trans files, which is superior to the until now available regular DeepPrime.

Well, if you didn’t test it, then DPReview did that for you.

They call the new DeepPRIME XD support a win for Fujifilm X-series shooters and recommend it to make it your default option for high-ISO shots.

From my testing, the arrival of DeepPRIME XD for X-Trans looks to be a win for Fujifilm X-series shooters, just as it is for those on other platforms. Although it isn’t always going to be your best bet, it performs better than the alternatives frequently enough that if you’ve the time required for its processing, it’s worth making your default option for high-ISO shots.

It’s also worth noting that even when it struggles with things like text, you usually have to be looking at the image very closely to spot the defects. Viewed from a more typical distance, a DeepPRIME XD shot is going to create the impression of more detail and crispness, even if it’s to some extent an artificial invention. When not pixel peeping, that can make the overall image feel better even when a more rigorous examination might tell a different story.

You have to bear your subjects, the viewer and how they’ll be looking at your images in mind when deciding which algorithm to use.
The point here is that you have to bear your subjects, the viewer and how they’ll be looking at your images in mind when deciding which algorithm to use. And we’ll restate that we’ve only shown results at default settings; you can always dial back the strength of an algorithm to improve the results for any given shot.

Overall, I’ve found DeepPRIME XD to be a very useful tool and I’m thrilled that it’s now available for X-Trans shooters too!

So definitely give DxO PureRAW 3 and DeepPRIME XD a look especially if you are on a Lightroom workflow. And make sure to check out the full article and see the comparison images at DPReview here.
