Thanks to reliable FujiRumors sources we already know since months that the Fujifilm X-T2 will come this summer.

It’s hard to say the exact month (at the moment the announcement is rumored to be in June), because Fujifilm might decide to push it back a little bit to favor the (currently very strong) X-Pro2 sales. However, Fujifilm feels the pressure of the X-Shooter community to release the X-T2 (as you could read on this interview with Fuji Managers)… they can’t wait too long to release it… Summer release sounds just right for me.

That said, if what I share today with you isn’t a typo, the first Fujifilm X-T2 Pre-Production samples have already been shipped to Beta Testers. In fact there is an image, that Fashion Photographer Felicia Van Ham tagged on Instagram with #XT2 and #Fujifilm (thanks to the FR-reader for the link).

Typo or not? I don’t know.

But what we know thanks to the “X-Pro2 boxes leak” in late October 2015, is that Fujifilm can send pre-production cameras to Beta-Testers at least 2½ or 3 months ahead of the announcement of a new product… and if the June Announcement Rumor is correct, there could be already Beta-Testers out there with an X-T2.

The wait for the X-T2 is not that long anymore… but it seems that this does not influence negatively the X-Pro2 sales, which are currently very strong (“more pre-orders than expected“, as Fujifilm announced here).

Medium Format Fuji :: “50MP Sensor & Available 2017!” – New Source

_ _ _

Hey all,

First a short Recap:

Our Top Trusted Japanese Source said it here: Fujifilm is already working on a Medium Format Camera. No doubt: it will come. But when? A new source said it could be “presented” at Photokina 2016 (late September). A source, who was right in the past, said here it will be an interchangeable lens camera.

And now the new Rumor:

A New Source (so take it with a grain of salt) said that the Medium Format Fuji…

  1. will have a 50MP Medium Format Sony Sensor
  2. will be available in 2017

My thoughts on this (not part of the rumor)

ad 1) Sounds a lot like the Pentax 645Z sensor
ad 2) So if the previous New Source Rumor is also correct (“presented at Photokina“), this means that Fuji could actually display a prototype at Photokina in September, and launch the final version in 2017

stay tuned for more, fellow X-shooters…

The New “rumored” Fujifilm Lens Roadmap :: And will the XF 33mmF1.0 Really Come This Year?

roadmap Rumor watermark2

the New FujiRumors rumored Lens Roadmap

_ _ _

Ok, Fujifilm said it: there will be 2 more lenses this year, that are not included in the Roadmap right now (+ the 2.0x Teleconverter unveiled at the CP+)

So I was looking at the FujiRumors rumored Lens Roadmap, and I noticed that it was quite messy, with all the lenses listed as to be announced in 2016. But as we now know, only 2 of them will come this year.

It’s pretty sure that one of these 2 lenses will be the XF23mmF2 WR (rumored to come even earlier than the 120mmF2.8).

But which will be the second lens? I still don’t know it. It could also be a lens that has not been rumored so far. So for now I’ll just make a very personal guess (no rumor)… it could be the XF200mmF2!

And what about the XF33mmF1.0? Couldn’t that be the lens that will come in 2016? I mean, there was even a rumor (from a New Source – still unconfirmed), that said it will be “unveiled” at Photokina!

Well, this rumor could be true, but there is a difference between “unveiled” or “presented” and “released”.

All we know from a trusted source, is that the XF33mmF1.0 got green light from the Fuji Bosses in late 2015. This means that starting from late 2015, Fujifilm has to design, produce, test, correct, improve and finally manufacture & ship this lens. I believe that for the whole procedure, one year is not enough time… especially considering that such a super-fast prime is a challange to design. If Fuji wants to make it a high quality ultra-fast lens worth of the name “Fujinon”, they should not be over-hasty to bring it to the market.

Take your time, Fuji… and make it awesome!

Fujifilm might show us a mock-up or early protoype at Photokina, but I believe (no rumor) that it will take until 2017 before the final lens will start falling into our hands.

I know you guys are also very interested in this rumor and many (especially PROs) could make excellent use of such a high speed lens. So you can bet I’ll put my best into this rumor and I hope that with the help of FR-sources, I can give you an update as soon as possible.

The Fuji Lens Teardown at LensRentals: “Excellent Construction. Designed by people who know how to make reliable lenses!”

And finally LensRentals did it: they did a disassembly post on a Fujinon lens, in this case the (now discounted) Fujinon XF55-200! Here are their conclusions:

“If you want the system with the most screws, you want Fuji, no question. […]

As for our impressions, first and foremost, the Fuji lenses are a bit more complicated than most we’ve tackled, but not hugely so. The construction, especially when considering this is a consumer-price zoom lens, is impressive.

[…] The overall construction is excellent. There was no place during this disassembly that either of us thought we saw a weak point that would be likely to cause problems. It’s not massively over engineered, but it’s very solidly constructed. It’s definitely better constructed than what we would expect from a $600 zoom. This looks like a lens that was designed by people who know how to make reliable lenses.

[…] we learned some things today and came away impressed — at this price point it’s an extremely well-built lens with a lot of interesting technology inside.”

The XF55-200 is now $100 off at BHphoto and AmazonUS. Plenty of Fujinon lenses are right now in offer:

Tell us something about you

Professional Photographer or Amateur or something in between?

As an amateur you have the priveledge to be free of economical influences. This way you can concentrate on your passion.

What is your kind of photography? (Motives, Approach …)

dpi

Landscape and architecture are like “unequal sisters”. On the surface they seem to be different, but secretly they are connected through an invisible bond. Landscape and architecture are the “Ying and Yang” of photography.

Landscape is a very romantic kind of photography in which lyric and poetry take a great part. For this reason, many landscape photographers unconsciously are oriented towards the pictures of William Turner and other famous romanticists.

Architecture on the contrary, often prefers coolness as well as strict shapes and lines. It often seems to be technological, monochrome and cold.

In the daily routine of photography, architecture and landscape both subsist on wide angle shots or abstract tele shots. And certainly they are increasingly influenced by postproduction.

Where can we find more about you on the web (website, Flickr, Facebook, portfolio)

I have a portfolio on 500px (https://500px.com/don-pino) and on some German websites.

What’s your favorite image taken with a Fuji?

I only started taking pictures two years ago with Fuji. Therefore I haven’t got a very big choice. In my opinion, the pictures of the mushroom pickers are two of my highlights. Especially, because I intentionally visited the Italian Monti Sibillini in June to take pictures of the poppy blossom. Unfortunately, the poppies started flowering lately because of the low temperatures. The pictures were taken in the morning at three degree

Your Move to Fuji

What’s the main reason for you to own a Fuji?

Like many others I was looking for an alternative second system with a compact design which meet the high expectations especially regarding the low-light photography. Not until I bought the X-E2, I got to know the fantastic fixed lenses. After two years of experience, I’d say that Fuji achieved the perfect balance between quality and compactness, simultaneously creating a “brand with a soul”.

Is there something you miss from your previous system?

Since I’m frequently using the DRI technique for night scenes and indoor shootings, I miss the extensive AE – Bracketing possibilities my 5DMKIII had. The X-Pro2 now provides AE bracketing function of +/- 2 which at least is a small step in the right direction.

What’s your favorite lens?

That’s a difficult question regarding the fantastic range of Fuji lenses. I love the 16 mm 1.4 lens as a universal fixed focal length with an extremely close focus distance. Apart from the 10-24mm, the 55-200mm became one if my favourite lenses.

What’s your favorite camera bag?

I like Think Tank. Since I started using Fuji I changed to a more compact model of airport essentials.

What’s in your bag?

X-T1, X-E2 and (hopefully soon) the X-Pro2
16mm, 23mm, 56mm, 10-24mm, 55-200mm and at least the XC16-50
Several 77mm B&W and Haida ND Filters
Three Lee ND-Graduate Filters
Several Step up rings
Nissin i40
A Rocket Blower
Two SanDisk 32 GB SD cards
Undefined lens-cleaning cloth

Your Advice to Fuji

Which lens, that is not yet in the roadmap, would you like Fuji to make?

A new 60mm weather sealed and stabilized “Allround Macro” which can be also used for Portrait Photography, like the popular Canon 100/2,8 L .

Tell Fujifilm what’s the main thing they should still improve in the X-series system via Firmware and/or Hardware

Although I keep told that 80% of the X-users take their “tripod pictures” using a mechanical cable release, I desperately wish for a newer version of camera remote which will make bulb shots and exposures of more than 30 Seconds possible and the remote release dispensable at the same time. Concerning long exposure, I’d like to add that I really could use a “live bulb” function.

Decisive Questions

OVF, EVF or Display?

The EVF of the X-T1 is already great. I don’t even dare to imagine how good the EVF of the X-T2 will be.

Rangefinder style or DSLR shape?

For me this isn’t an “either/or” question. I use them both. It depends on the moment and on the lens.

RAW or JPEG?

At the Moment 100% raw. With Acros this may change.

Curiosity & Customize you X

You most & you least used feature in Fujifilm cameras (like film simulations, build-in RAW converter, Extended DR(100-200-400), advanced filters, panorama, digital split image etc…)

According to me, there should rather be too many options for technical features than too less. At the end it’s up to me anyway whether I use them or not.

Which functions did you place on the FN-buttons of your camera?

I very often use a tripod, therefore I placed the Self-timer at the Top FN Button.

What’s Your favorite film simulation

I am still waiting for Acros.

Your favorite photography quote.

Truly all photographs are self-portraits. (Elizabeth Opalenik)

X-E2 vs. X-E2S: Ending the Confusion

By upgrading your Fujifilm X-E2 with firmware 4, you are giving up the camera that you knew: Your X-E2 will turn into an X-T10—only with a rangefinder design. However, on the inside, both the X-E2v4 and the new X-E2S offer (almost) the same features, the same menu options and the same graphical user interface as the X-T10.

Rico_BannerThis is important. To begin with, it means that your old X-E2 user manual has become pretty much obsolete. That’s why Fujifilm has created an entirely new manual along with firmware 4. You can download it here as a PDF file. It also means that my eBook on the X-E2 doesn’t apply to cameras running firmware 4 or the new X-E2S. It’s still great if you don’t upgrade your X-E2, but users who have made the jump are now much better off with my book on the X-T10.

I am not kidding! As long as you can see beyond the different form factors (rangefinder style vs. SLR style), my X-T10 book is now almost perfectly applicable. It really is, because Fuji did a terrific job transforming the X-E2 into an X-T10 with camouflage. This means that my X-E2 eBook won’t be updated. It doesn’t have to, because the update is already here. To ease the transition, my publisher has created a coupon code that will give you a discount of 50% on all editions of my X-T10 book (printed, eBook and combined). Simply enter XT1050 in the coupon field when you check out (or use XPERT40 if you are too late and this code has expired).

Same Same, But Different

Okay, so your X-E2 is now a rangefinder-style version of the X-T10. Great! But what exactly are the differences between an X-E2 running firmware 4 and the new X-E2S? There seems to be some confusion, so let’s straighten it out.

X-E2

X-E2S_silver_back

X-E2 vs. X-E2S

On the outside, the differences are minimal. The X-E2S offers an “improved” hand grip, but to be honest, I can’t feel much of a difference. However, pressing the four selector buttons on the back of the X-E2S does feel better, so this may be another small improvement over the classic X-E2. With firmware 4, you can forget the MACRO and AF descriptions on two of the X-E2’s selector buttons, as all four selector keys now serve as Fn buttons, just like in the X-E2S. This gives both cameras a total of 7 Fn buttons!
