RUMOR: XF35mmF2 WR and 1.4x Tele-Converter to be announced late October (New Source)

According to a new source, both, the 1.4x Tele-Converter and the weather sealed XF 35mmF2 will be announced late October.

This is a new source, so take the grain of salt, but since Fuji itself said in May, that the XF35mmF2 will be available in November, an announcement within October makes sense… always if Fuji doesn’t decide to postpone everything in the last second.

NOTE: On Febraury 2015 Fujifilm said that the 1.4x teleconverter will work with the following lenses: XF50-140mm, XF120mmF2.8 R Macro, XF100-400mm!

RUMOR: XF 35mmF2 WR will cost less than the current XF35mmF1.4 (SRP)

Hi X-folks,

today I’d just quickly inform you that we now have a first hint about the price of the XF 35mmF2 WR. According to a source, who was right in the past, the Weather Resitant XF35mmF2 WR will cost less than the XF35mmF1.4. The source did not specify, though, if it’s for the lens alone, bundled with the X-PRO2 or in both cases. Anyway, it seems that price will be very interesting :) .

If true, then that’s a good news … my credit card is ready… it will the perfect lens for my weather sealed X-PRO2. But please note that price & release are amongst the trickiest part of the rumors, since Fuji can change it anytime. You’ll be updated as soon as I get information from trusted sources.

When will it come? Well, I remind you how already back in May, Fujifilm was pretty clear about it: the Weather Resistant XF35mmF2 will be available in November.

COOL IDEA for WEDDINGS (or any kind of Party): Set up a “Selfie” Photo Booth with Fuji X, Yongnuo speedlites + Printer!

This could be a cool idea for your next X-wedding (or any kind of party): take a Fuji X (in this case the Fuji X-E2), 2x Yongnuo YN-560 MkIV speedlites, a Manfrotto BeFree Tripod, a Canon Selphy printer (or Fuji’s little SP-1 printer) and a few more things, and set up Photo Booth, where guests can take funny photos alone and print them on the spot.

You can read all the instructions at antonionunes. At the end, how did it turn out? antonionunes says:

“It was lots of fun. Guests really got into the fun and silly self-portrait thing, and the results were hilarious. Also, in the end, the Bride and Groom had this cute book full of happy shots and warm words, which is something I’m sure they’ll treasure.

The first feedback and suggestion comes from our Forum, where Mark G says at the Fuji X Wedding Photography Chat:

“If the client pays for the (mostly) outrageously expensive printing paper, it would be a great idea. That said, for photo booths, I’d prefer 1 cheap strobe… just easier than changing batteries on the hotshoe flashes.”

Speaking of weddings: those who follow FujiRumors on facebook and twitter already know that I live in an apartment over a courtyard of a wine tavern. There are weddings almost every weekend there and I still have to see an X-shooter as an official photographer (hey… are you out there??). It’s always Canon and Nikon… but I’m confident this will change in the next wedding season with the Fujifilm X-PRO2 :) .

Fujifilm considering to make an XF 60mm Mark II, once they completed the roadmap! (New Source)

According to a new source, Fuji is considering to replace the “old” XF 60mmF2.4 with a newer version. The source did not share any specs and said that this will not happen before Fuji has completed the current roadmap.

End of the rumor.

The upcoming XF 35mmF2 WR (which should come in November, according to this roadmap), could indicate that Fuji considers the lens roadmap more or less complete now and therefore started to develop newer version (or variations) of older lenses…. and if this rumor is correct, the XF60mm could be a hot candidate to be updated as next.

Yes, for now this is a low rated rumor. And you know I’d like to keep a high hit rate (currently of 90%). I share it, because this is also a Great Opportunity to let Fujifilm know, which lenses FR-readers consider a priority to be updated as next (and I tell you, Fujifilm reads this blog and is interested to your thoughts.)

So which lens should Fuji update as next? Should they give us a compact XF 23mmF2? Or maybe a weather sealed version of the XF 10-24? Or is it really high time to put a faster AF into the XF 60mmF2.4?

I’ll then sum up all your ideas in a POLL, and we will let Fuji know, what FR-readers consider a priority.

Fuji Fun Vs. Sony Specs…. a Story about my 3 days Flirt with the Sony A7rII and why I now Love Fujifilm even more!

I guess it’s my time to say something about the SonyA7rII. I was reluctant to write anything about it, even though I’ve tried the Sony A7rII for several days.

But today I could not resist for two reasons:

  1. I have a bit of spare time & and I’m slightly drunk at home after an X-T1 Vs. Canon M3 shootout with Steve of CanonWatch.
  2. I’ve read a very interesting article at Fujifilm X World.

You’ll read about the Canon M3 at CanonWatch later on, so let’s go directly to point 2, the Fuji X World post, which was the real trigger for this article.

“Image quality” over “Specs”

The article is about one of the most loved lenses amongst us X-shooters: the XF 35mmF1.4. It shows Fuji’s approach when they design a new lens, which can be summed up in this sentence:  “Image quality” over “Specs“

And it’s not just a good sounding slogan, it’s Fuji’s philosophy. Go and read it here… I’ll just quickly come to the point of the article:

When Fuji designed the XF 35mmF1.4 they had 2 choices: create the lens in a way that it will perfectly match the test criteria used for MTF charts, or don’t care about specs & charts and design the lens thinking at the real life use… and Fuji went for the latter one.

That’s why, today, looking at the MTF charts, the XF 35mm doesn’t seem much of a lens, but looking at the pictures X-shooters (including me) take with it every day, it’s pretty clear that Fuji has created a hell of a lens! Because, as Fujifilm said:

“There is something more than just the catalog spec.”

And that brings me to the Sony A7rII.

Prologue

These are just my very personal considerations. People with different ways of shooting, priorities & workflow will come to completely different conclusions… and that’s good so.

I don’t want to sound like a Sony hater, so let me say it clearly: the Sony A7rII has terrific specs, it’s a good camera, and overall I absolutely like the innovation Sony brings to the digital camera technology. They make the arguably best & most innovative sensors out there (sorry Canon)!

But today I won’t join the A7rII siren songs of the internet, and since I can’t cover every single spec (that would mean writing a book, not a blog post), I’ll focus on those aspects that I prefer on Fujifilm and try to explain why I’ve quickly lost my interest in the A7rII.

Fujifilm, Panasonic & Toshiba to make common announcement before mid-September: New Sensor to be Announced?

There is a rumor relating to Fujifilm, from the Chinese forum dc.home (translation). It has been spread by joofei, whom you probably still remember from the Wild Rumor Series (wild rumors 1, wild rumors 2 and wild rumors 3).

Joofei says, that Fujifilm, Panasonic & Toshiba are going to announce something before mid-September 2015… and once more, wild guesses started, related to organic sensor or the rumored Medium Format camera.

Everything joofei shared so far, has still be verified. So take it with the mandatory grain of salt.

WHAT WE KNOW

TOSHIBA: Fujifilm is already cooperating with Toshiba… they make the Fuji X-Trans 2/3 sensors

PANASONIC: Fujifilm is cooperating with Panasonic on the Organic Sensor

WHAT COULD BE

Is it possible, that these 3 companies joined forces to break Sony’s sensor hegemony? I don’t know, and we will probably soon see if joofei is reliable or not.

But today I want to share with you an older rumor, which I never shared in the past (yeah, I know, my obsession for beeing as reliable as possible ;) ).

The rumor I’ve received said, that the next generation of X-Trans sensor will be made by Toshiba (until now, Fuji’s APS-C sensors are made by Sony). This partnership change should be the reason for the delay of the X-PRO2.

It’s anonymous, so take it with a grain of salt. I share it today, because it could be another element of discussion in addition to what joofei said at the Forum. Anyway, since I’ve shared the Toshiba rumor, I’ll include it now into my big rumor check.

So, time again for wild specualtions !
