This is just the first of the 2 Kaizen updates planed for X-T2 and X-Pro2. The second one will come late May.
For tips about how to update your firmware (and eventual issues that might occur), you can read Rico’s X-pert corner “Tips for Updating your Firmware“.
Ok, there is a bit of confusion regarding the epic Kaizen Firmware update coming for X-T2 and X-Pro2, especially since Fujifilm, just today here, released a firmware for X-T2, X-Pro2 and X-T1 (and the EF-X500 flash).
I went again through the messages the 2 anonymous sources wrote me, and if I got it right (but please sources correct me if I’m wrong) this is what Fujifilm currently plans:
Announcement of the huge Firmware udpates with 33 improved features on March 23 (Note: Announcement, not release)
First Firmware coming still in March
Second Firmware coming in May
Sure, delays can always happen, but the important thing to know is that X-T2 and X-Pro2 owners will soon be able to download a complete new camera… for free :)
Just as rumored here, Fujifilm released a firmware update to fix some bugy with the EF-X500 flash. You can now update the flash to ver. 1.02 using the X-T1, X-T2 and X-Pro2 with latest firmware. Here is the full list:
NOTE 1: The X-A3 Firmware 2.00 is already out since March 6 (and I reported about it March 6 here)
NOTE 2: Follow FR onFacebook, RSS-feed and Twitter, so you won’t miss it when the big Kaizen Firmware will be out ;)
Hold on tight, guys! Because X-T2 and X-Pro2 shooters are going to have a lot of fun soon.
Ready?
Two (2) sources decided to put the entire X-T2 and X-Pro2 shooter community in a frenzy of enthusiasm, by sharing with us via rumor box what follows:
There will be 2 firmware updates coming. One later this month (March), and another one is currently scheduled for May. And now comes the hot part: the firmware for X-Pro2 and X-T2 will bring 33 improved features, such as:
extended bracketing (maximum of 9 shots in total)
updates for the AF system
copyright info to exif
improved video functionality
viewfinder enhancements
GUI change
many others :)
A massive firmware update, worth of the best Kaizen!
Thanks for sharing, anonymous guys with nick-name. And just in case in future you decide to share more tidbits, don’t hesitate to contact me using the same nick name.
(NOTE: firmware updates can be postponed anytime. In the past, Fujifilm gave public deadlines for firmware updates, but it happened so often that they couldn’t respect their own deadline, that they decided to stop any public statement about new firmware release.)
P.S.: if you are an X100S/T shooter, please, here is the contact form to write directly to Fujifilm Japan… you may drop them an email asking for a bit of Kaizen Love.
I recently told you that Fujifilm is about to release a new firmware update for several Fujifilm cameras. We all hoped from some nice Kaizen update, but it seems we will have to wait a bit longer, since this will be a mere bug fix update.
According to a trusted source (thanks) the next update will fix the bug on the EF-X500, that caused it to completely turn off erroneously.
To fix this bug, Fujifilm will release a new firmware for the flash. You will be able to perform the upgrade by yourself, using your X-T1, X-T2 or X-Pro2, but you will have to update the firmware on these cameras first, too.
After the release earlier today of Adobe Camera Raw 9.9 it was just a matter of time for Lightroom to be come out with GFX, X-T20, X100F and X-A10 Support. And it just happened!
You can update to Lightroom CC 2015.9 (the creative cloud version) or to Lightroom 6.9 (standalone version).
In addition to the camera support, it also fixes the following bug that occured with X-T2 and X-Pro2 cameras:
Unable to import compressed raw files from Fujifilm X-T2 and X-Pro2
Bigheadtaco had a 1 hour talk with Fuji Guy Billy. If you have no time at the moment to watch it all, I made a summary for you guys (you’re welcome ;) ). For the full video click here… but you should really check out the whole interesting interview as soon as you find some time.
Fujifilm X-T20/X100F/4K
X-T2 has huge demand [NOTE: we noted this… it’s still backordered at a lot of stores :( ]
the WCL/TCL MK II has magnets that allows the camera to detect if the WCL or TCL is attached. The old converters also work, but you have to select in the menu if the WCL or TCL is attached
4K: to get close to the F-Log profile for color grading, dial down highlight + shadow tone to -2 and sharpness down to -4, it’s pretty close to the flat F-Log profile (for max. dynamic range recovery capability you still need F-Log)
4K on X-T20 you lose some resolution, because it has no crop (X-T2 has crop) but has a half line skip (min 14:55)
Firmware Update for X-Pro2?
The half line skipping when shooting 4K allows the X-T20 to shoot 4K without overheating. Take asks Billy if this could be implemented to the X-Pro2 via Firmware update. Billy answers: “I hope so, it’s something I’m pushing all the time. I don’t understand why the X-Pro2 has no 4K like X-T20, since there is a solution for that. I’m fighting for that in Japan.“
Personal Note: Thanks Billy for your efforts to support us and make pressure on Fujifilm… we all send you a virtual hug :)
Fujifilm GFX
2.5 years ago Fujifilm sat down with some key Medium Format photographers, and started developing the G-system from their input.
increased tonality + 14 stops of dynamic range
Hopefull down the road Capture One will support GFX RAW’s
GFX will hit the market at the end of February
Fujifilm will launch a free tethering Software (Fujifilm X-acquire) that you can use also with X-T2 & X-T1 at the end of Febraury. (min 29.03)
When they talked about the focal plane shutters, Fuji Guy Billy says that they know which sensor technology will come in future, and that “certain technology won’t be needed anymore“, and hence they decided to make future-proof non-leaf shutter lenses. Billy already talked more clearly about the global shutter in the interview with Luminous Landscape
Expect to see much more adapters. Fujifilm is very open to speak with third-party manufactures.
All 3 lenses are amazing sharp from center to corner, even the zoom lens.
Mid 2017 2 more lenses will come: 110mmF2 and 23mmF4. End of 2017 will see the 45mmF2.8
Fujifilm changed some of the curves for Astia and Provia, because of the new sensor and its great dynamic range.
Focus Bracketing (min. 29:45)
Mixed Stuff
Future APS-C lenses: they look at the demand. MarkII version of existing lenses, but also longer primes for sports [I’m sure they saw our poll results :) ]
Fuji Guy Billy says he’s aware the WiFi app needs improvements, and he seems confident that it will come. Not sure if you will have to pay for it.
Fujifilm is Nr.1 brand in Thailand, especially because of women liking its skin tones.
