All In With the Fujifilm GFX :: GF110mm… the Must Have G-mount Lens :: DPReview GF23mm Sample Gallery… and More (GFX zone)

Fujifilm GFX

So it happens, that almost 7 months after its launch, the Fujifilm GFX 50s is ranked as the #69 best selling mirrorless camera. To me, that does not sound bad at all.

The Fujifilm GFX 50s is just the beginning of something new and awesome in the medium format world, just like the Fujifilm X100 and X-Pro1 were the beginning of something new and awesome in the APS-C world.

But while it took Fujifilm a couple of years to finally launch a mature product and have huge success in the APS-C world (X-Trans2 cameras and especially X-T1), I think that the next iteration of Fujifilm’s medium format cameras, the Fujifilm GFX 100S (or however they will call it) will already be a 100% mature product, especially if it will feature Sony’s 100MP BSI sensor that Sony officially announced at the CEBit here.

But until then, the Fujifilm GFX 50s is already a great tool, and a whole lot of fun to use today.

And now… one of the most appreciated sections of the GFX roundups: the images.

I know it means a lot to you guys if I share your work on FujiRumors. As photographers, you can need any visibility (and improved SEO google search results) you can get on the web, and I know I can help with it.

More visibility can also mean more clients for you guys.

This is why I keep it up, of course giving you all the credit you deserve for your great work, even if these image roundups are a really very time consuming activity for me. But I really want to support your as much as I can.

The Complete Sony a6500 vs. Fujifilm X-T2 Comparison :: Fujifilm GFX 50s Vs. Hasselblad X1D Studio Scene Comparison

Sony A6500 Vs Fujifilm X-T2

Mat & Heather from Mirrorlessons just shared their complete comparison between the Fujifilm X-T2 Vs. Sony A6500. It’s as usual a very well done and detailed comparison. From the handling, the controls, the menu, the viewfinder, autofocus, and of course also high ISO, dynamic range and image quality overall. Excellent work, Mirrorlessons!

And who’s the winner? Well, it depends. Mirrorlessons says:

Choose the Sony a6500 if:

  • you want better video features (picture profiles, 120fps in Full HD, etc.)
  • you want to take advantage of 5-axis stabilisation with lenses that lack OSS
  • you can’t live without a touch screen (works for the AF only)
  • you want a more compact body

Choose the Fujifilm X-T2 if:

  • you want better usability thanks to the numerous dials and dual SD card slot
  • you want a larger EVF (it’s one of the best on the market)
  • you want a better selection of APS-C lenses
  • you like the idea of “downloading” a new camera every now and then

Read (and enjoy) the full comparison at mirrorlessons here.

Fujifilm GFX Vs. Hasselblad X1D

As probably many of you guys, I’m also curious about the ongoing Hasselblad X1D review at dpreview. They just shared their first impressions, and what’s relevant for Fuji Lovers, is that their studio scene samples now include also the Hasselblad X1D.

So yes, it’s time to pixel peep and compare the Hasselblad X1D (specs&price) with the Fujifilm GFX 50s (specs&price).

Although, I remind you that Fujifilm said that current Fujinon GF lenses are not used at their full potential, since they are designed to to resolve 100+ Megapixel. So it will be interesting to see if, once the 100 megapixel BSI Medium Format sensor comes true, the results will be still quite close or if the Fujinon glass will then start to shine and set apart the competition :)

So, check out the the Hasselblad First Impressions of dpreview here. And for the pixel peeping, go to their studio samples here.

Medium Format Fujifilm GFX 50S :: Full Press Conference Video + Additional Coverage (and NEW Images) + NEW INSTAX 1:1

shared at the Fujifilm GFX Facebook Group

Time to make some order.

Fujifilm just announced the Fujifilm GFX 50S, a 50MP mirrorless Medium Format Camera. It will be launched along with 3 lenses in early 2017. Overall Fuji has 6 lenses in the raodmap.

  • Standard prime “GF63mmF2.8 R WR” (equivalent to 50mm in the 35mm format)
  • Wide-angle standard zoom “GF32-64mmF4 R LM WR” (equivalent to 25-51mm in the 35mm format)
  • Mid-telephoto macro 1:0.5 “GF120mmF4 Macro R LM OIS WR” (equivalent to 95mm in the 35mm format)
  • Fast aperture mid-telephoto “GF110mmF2 R LM WR” (equivalent to 87mm in the 35mm format)
  • Ultra wide “GF23mmF4 R LM WR” (equivalent to 18mm in the 35mm format)
  • Wide “GF45mmF2.8 R WR” (equivalent to 35mm in the 35mm format)

Fujifilm said that some lenses can resolve over 100MP. To me, this means that it is “future proof” for when the Fujifilm GFX 100S will hit the market, the 100MP successor to the current 50S version.

But let’s get back to the present.

The Fujiflm GFX 50S will cost less then $10,000 with lens and viewfinder (that’s Fuji’s “commitment”). The viewfinder is interchangeable. You can attach a tilting EVF to it.

Fuji has released the official Press Release here.

FXF Admin Andreas has made available all official product images of the GFX and lenses here.

There is a dedicated Fujifilm GFX Facebook group here.

Here are some new tidbits shared by other sites, who where present in the press conference.

And as rumored, Fujifilm also announced the new Instax Square Film :) Press Release here

Maximilian was so kind to create a “quick and dirty size comparison” between the X-M1 and X-E1 and I’m glad to share it with you all. Thanks a lot!

Battles: X100S vs Nikon Coolpix A + X-E1 vs OM-D vs GH3

X100S vs Nikon Coolpix A

Mike Kobal posted a “mini-review” where he compares the [shoplink 10075]X100S[/shoplink] (with [shoplink 10069]wide angle converter WCL-X100[/shoplink]) and the [shoplink 8820]Nikon Coolpix A[/shoplink] (both feature an APS-C sensor and don’t have an optical low pass filter).

Among the others, Fuji “scores” because its faster AF, better handling and ergonomics, while the Nikon has a better battery life and lens (“This lens/sensor combo delivers the sharpest shots I have seen from an APSC sized sensor. Scary sharp, really.“) And which sensor is better? Hard question. “I love the X trans sensor and I love the D800e sensor and now I also love the Coolpix A sensor :) where will this end? Getting rid of the AA filter paid off again, mind blowing detail, if you like your images ultra sharp, then this sensor is for you. My personal choice is the X trans. 1:1 Fuji/Nikon (subjective)

Check out Mike’s whole review here. Here is his bottom line… and keep up the good work Mike!

Anyone who needs to pack light and small for whatever reason (expedition, extreme sports, etc), can live with the 28mm equiv FOV, has no choice, the Nikon A is the one. Unlike us purists, with both feet solid on the pavement, we do have a choice, Leica or Fuji X100s. :)”

Should Fujifilm postpone the XF120mm launch and release the XF23mmF2 WR first?

 X-E1 vs OM-D vs GH3

Admiring Light compared the Panasonic GH3 (with [shoplink 8220]Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4[/shoplink]) with the Olympus OM-D and the Fuji X-E1. As we already heard from other reviews, they conclude that:

“Well, the X-E1 is a camera with fantastic image quality, that much is certain.  Not surprisingly, it produces cleaner images throughout the ISO range and retains great detail. Is the Fuji the best of these three cameras then? In pure image quality from the sensor? Yes. In other ways? Not so fast.”

Read it all and see ISO comparison here at Admiring Light.

X100s + X20 test shots

We are all hungry for real X100s and X20 reviews. I check the web every day!

The good thing is, I’m not alone in my daily search. Fujirumors reader Jonti spotted this webiste (translated version) that seems to compare x100 and x100s shots.

thanks Jonti

P.S.: you can preorder the X20 in Belgium, at the PCH store in Brussels. They received a sample of the X20 and took some images of the camera here. For the unboxing video click here. Preorder in silver here, and in black here. They were told by Fujifilm Belgium, that the delivery estimation in Belgium would be March.

P.P.S.: FR-reader M. received an email from the main Fuji Dealer in Ireland. According to the dealer, they will get the X100s on Friday or Monday. Also at AmazonUK the X100s should be released on the March 1. And FR-reader G. emailed me this: “My mate is a fuji dealer and speaks to fuji uk a lot…he told me today that fuji wants us in the uk to have our x100s in our hands in time for the focus on imaging show.. That show runs march 3-6, he says this Friday they should ship and he would be surprised if I did not have cam for Monday.”

image courtesy “just zis guy” on Flickr: “Noise is also pretty good up to ISO 3200 and 6400 is not great but usable if you crank the noise reduction up to the max (+2). 12800 is unusable and only offered so they had say they have it.

Updated X-Photographers websites (with X100s and X20 samples)

To be frank: the X100s and X20 sample shots at Fuji’s website are not that good. I agree with MJR, who said in the comments: “I’m sorry Fuji but these are the worst samples ever. (at photographers fault) :( I’m heading back to http://fujifilm-x.com/photographers/en/ to feel better.

So, take a look at the dedicated X-Photographers pages (with X100s and X20 samples) here. Just look worldwide for them!

Fujifilm Used Gear Holiday Savings at BHphoto

BHphoto has some nice savings on used Fujifilm (related) gear. Some ar marked as “used holiday savings“. I’m not entirely sure what that label specifically means, but I guess it likely indicates a limited-time discount available during the holiday period.

These are just some of the used offers. The full list can be checked out here.  There are also the Holiday 2025 Head Start deals running.
