Fujifilm has just released firmware updates for the Fujifilm X-H2S, X-H2, X-T4, X-T3 and X-S10 as well as the XF18-55mmF2.8-4 and XF56mmF1.2 R WR.

When Fujifilm launched the 40MP Fujifilm X-H2, they also published a list of lenses that get the maximum benefit from the new high resolution sensor.
This led quite some folks (also here on FujiRumors) to believe that the lenses not on the list will not profit at all from the increased resolution.
Some even said that because of this, they won’t upgrade to the 40MP Fujifilm X-H2 (and also the upcoming 40MP Fujifilm X-T5)
I did try to explain that you have to see in other terms: the new sensor will finally let all XF lenses express at their best in terms of resolution. it’s just those not on the list won’t go quite up all the way to 40MP.
Finally Fujifilm understood that the message they put out was potentially confusing and now added a note on their official Fujifilm X-H2 page:
*The list specifies our selection of lenses that have high resolution performance from edge to edge at maximum aperture, allowing you to fully experience all that the 40MP sensor has to offer. Lenses not listed will also allow you to experience the improved resolution performance of the 40MP sensor.”
So if you want 40MP resolution from edge to edge at maximum aperture, then only the lenses on the list will deliver (see list below). But Fujifilm now clearly says that lenses not listed will also deliver improved resolution performance when used on the 40MP sensor.
Hence, if you want more resolution, buying a Fujifilm X-H2 or the Fujifilm X-T5 will give you that also by using lenses that are not on the list.
And from how I read it, some might even resolve all the 40MP when stopped down at least in the center of the frame. Would be nice if Fujifilm would be even more specific on that.

Just as we rumored, the Fujifilm X-H2 turned out to be Fujifilm’s first X-Trans camera to offer pixel shift multishot.
The Fujifilm X-H2 takes 20 images, which you must then combine using Fujifilm’s pixel shift combiner software to create 160MP images.
Now, in an interview with the Japanese youtube channel of Gizmomo, when asked if it will ever be possible that the camera will combine the files internally without any need to use an external software, a Fujifilm representative answered:

When I first shared the rumor about the Fujifilm X-H2 and Fujifilm X-T5 having a new lower base ISO, I said that this was one of my hopes for the future of the X series, as this could potentially mean better ISO performance.
Some people immediately called me out on that saying that ISO means nothing and it’s all just random numbers (which it is not, it’s just that there are different standards). Others said that what really matters is the FWC per unit area and not the ISO number.
And since things started to get really nerdy and complicated, a trusted source dropped me an email and came to my help.
The source told me that Fujifilm will actually promote the Fujifilm X-H2 as having “improved low/high ISO“.
The fact that Fujifilm will launch the Fujifilm X-H2 by saying it has “improved low/high ISO” pretty much ends all our talks. Unless Fujifilm’s marketing division has decided to lie to us (or unless our trusted source is wrong, which it is not), the new lower base ISO will also lead to overall better ISO performance.

Now all we can do is to wait for the day the Fujifilm X-H2 will be announced and see samples and comparisons, so we can see with our own eyes what “improved low/high ISO” means.
And keep in mind: according to our information, the Fujifilm X-T5 will share the same sensor of the Fujifilm X-H2. So whatever the X-H2 IQ and AF performance will be, it will apply also to the Fujifilm X-T5 (whenever that one will come).

When asked if the X-T4 and X-T3 will profit from the new autofocus algorithm of the Fujifilm X-H2, the service manager for Fujifilm Germany says:
First off we have to say clearly that the Fujifilm X-H2S uses a new stacked sensor and a new processor, who are largely responsible for the fast readout and autofocus speed and at the end allow the new algorithm to realize such an autofocus performance.
This means you can’t bring that kind of performance 1 to 1 to other models like the X-T3 and X-T4, who use an older sensor and processor.

When Fujifilm recently laid out their future camera lineup, we could see that going on, the Fujifilm X series will still have more cameras featuring a classic retro layout as opposed to PSAM.
That’s good for us Fujifilm X shooters, as this means we still have plenty of retro option to pick from also in future (Fujifilm X-T5, X-Pro4, X-T40 and X-E5).
But for some reason, the fact that Fuji also offers the X-H2/S and X-S10 with PSAM dials is spreading panic among the Fuji community, that Fujifilm is giving up on the classic control layout most of us fell in love with.
I guess that’s why a Japanese Fujifilm manager said in an interview with the Japanese youtube channel Camera Kitamura, that the Fujifilm X-T line will continue and differentiate itself from the Fujifilm X-H2/S thanks to a more classic layout.
The manager says the reason for having the X-S10 and X-H2/S, is that a PSAM dial helps to attract new customers from other system to Fujifilm. But that the X-T line won’t feature a PSAM dial.
