Fujifilm to Launch a Brown Fujifilm X100F

Fujifilm X100F

Hey all,

the weekend is finally about to start, and I thought it would be nice to end the week with a little rumor.

So here it is… our trusted sources inform us that Fujifilm will launch a brown Fujifilm X100F.

*** Fujifilm X100 Line facebook group ***

The Fujifilm X100F is a tremendous success for Fujifilm, way beyond anything that its predecessors could achieve in terms of sales. And in future we will get a brown version, too.

Stay tuned on FujiRumors via Facebook, RSS-feed and Twitter… because the best has yet to come ;) .

Fujifilm X100F: BHphoto, Adorama, AmazonUS, Focuscamera

have a fantastic weekend,

New Brown Fuji X-M1 images. Release in late July!

Here are some new images of the Brown X-M1 (via Digicaminfo). Yep, the X-M1 will come in Black, Silver and Brown. The camera is going to ship from July 27 while the Brown version is coming in September. You can buy it as body only, as kit version with the new XC16-50mm lens and as double lens kit version with the zoom and the new XF27mm F2.8 pancake.

The new zoom has a 12 lens in 10 groups design, 3 of them are aspherical lenses. The new 27mm pancake length is 23mm and weights 78g.

Still not super exact info yet about the price in dollars. But we hope to get it soon…

Fujifilm Manager: X and GFX Series Hold 40% Market Share (Excluding Full Frame) but Struggle a Bit with Product Availability

The French website Phototrend had the opportunity to interview Franck Bernard, Director of the imaging division at Fujifilm France. You can read the full interview here and the summary below.

  • Fujifilm is doing very well, both X and GFX series
  • the only things Fujifilm suffers from a little is the availability of products
  • Based on GFK data (largest German market research company), outside of Full Frame, Fujifilm is market leader with 40% market share thanks to X and GFX system
  • X-M5: there was still demand for cameras in this price segment especially among young people
  • AI will only bring benefits to the photographic business in general, and especially on the print side. Facilitate the production of a photo album, with a minimum of clicks: AI will be able to help us a lot
  • XF16-55mmF2.8 II completely redesigned lens
  • next generation linear motors used on XF16-55mmF2.8 II  are smaller than the ones in the older generation
  • improvements in ED, Super ED and aspherical lenses has also allowed to reduce weight and gain compactness
  • no OIS because most Fujifilm cameras now have IBIS
  • X-M5 comes in brown package to reduce Co² emissions (reduce colors, packaging, carton consumption and, if possible, the number of cables)
  • film simulation contribute the the “return to film” trend. But while there is a notable resurgence of interest in film photography, especially among younger people, its impact should be viewed with caution, as the market remains limited to specific products like disposable cameras and film
  • Fujifilm has no new film camera on the agenda
  • success of X100VI was unimaginable. The X100VI is an iconic product
  • X100VI production has been increased, but supply is complex and deliveries are not made overnight
  • X100VI is not cannibalizing sales of other Fujifilm cameras

I don’t know if the GFK data is for France or Europe only, or if it is about worldwide data. But 40% market share outside of Full Frame might not be a horrible position to be in.

Unfortunately, Fujifilm has been heavily impacted by shipping challenges. Even if I were to underestimate the numbers, it’s likely that if all the X100VI, X-T5, X-E4, and other cameras ordered had been shipped in a timely manner, Fujifilm’s market share outside of full-frame cameras could easily be 60% to 70%.

But it is what it is.

I get that Fujifilm can’t suddenly build four new factories just because they’ve become a trendy brand. There’s the risk that, once the trend fades, they’d be left with four underused factories, turning it into a poor investment.

So they have to increase the production with what they currently have available in terms of manufacturing power.

But then I don’t understand decisions like keeping the old XF16-55mmF2.8 still in production (according to reports at CineD) even though there is now the new XF16-55mmF2.8 II on the market.

Wouldn’t it be better to focus the limited production capacity on making more lenses of the new version? Or stop making the old XF16-55 and free up manufacturing power to make the one lens that has become almost impossible to find all over the world, the Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 R WR.

With a few more strategic decisions, I believe Fujifilm could improve the ongoing supply shortage situation.

Fujifilm Teases Two Cameras Coming in 2025, but there Will Be Even More Cameras than That

The X Summit just took place and you can find it here and the full live coverage here.

Everything happened as expected and we got all this gear.

But at the very end of the event Fujifilm had this “one more thing” moment in which they said:

there is one more thing. We are currently developing new cameras. Although the timing is yet to be determined, we hope to bring you exciting news next year

The Fujifilm Japan manager than gives a glance under both towels and seems to be visibly excited about what’s hidden there.

Now, I know some might moan and wish for a proper teaser instead of this.

But guys, you know very well that everything you need to do is to follow FujiRumors if you want to get a glimpse into the future of Fujifilm. ;)

So let’s look at what these cameras could be.

The fact that one towel is white and the other black might suggest that one represents a GFX camera and the other an X series camera, as GFX gear typically comes in white boxes while X series gear comes in black boxes (although, it seems the X-M5 ships in brown boxes as we reported here).

Additionally, the camera under the white towel is noticeably larger than the one under the black towel, further supporting our assumption.

If I should place a bet, I’d say under the white towel hides the fixed lens Fujifilm GFX, which should come in the first half of 2025. But that’s just a guess of mine.

More complicated is to guess what’s under the black towel.

Since it is definitely a very small camera, I’d say it’s either the 1″ sensor half frame camera or the Fujifilm X-E5, which will both come at some point in 2025.

But again: that’s all just blind speculation on my side. There could be any other camera under those towels.

In fact, let us know in the comments what you’d like to hide under those towels.

What I can say for sure: we won’t get only 2 cameras in 2025. In fact, we have already rumored three cameras to come until now and why not, there could be even more coming. We got 4 cameras in 2024, so why not make it at least 4 (or more) also in 2025? ;).

Because there are even more cameras waiting to get the 5th generation treatment, right X-Pro?

10 New Features of the Fujifilm X-M5 – and Some Coming to X-T5 & Co via Firmware

The Fujifilm X-M5 has just been launched.

And quite surprisingly for being the most affordable MILC camera of Fujifilm, it comes packed with a bunch of new features that even Fujifilm’s highest end cameras don’t have.

Some of those features will come via firmware update to other models for sure, some we can hope for, but others are hardware features available only on the Fujifilm X-M5 so far.

So let’s quickly run thorugh them:

  1. Manual Focus range customization
You can set the rotation reach from 60 up to 900 degree individually for each lens. This will come via firwmare to other models. – see screeshot here from this video
  2. New Menu Interface in Vlog Mode
Vlog mode has now a new interface (with more options and new features) that makes it easier to use – see screenshot here. There is also a zoom slider on the LCD – see screenshot here taken from this video
  3. Three micorphones
the X-M5 is equipped with three microphones, allowing you to choose between capturing sound from all directions or focusing on either the front or rear mic, depending on your needs. Alternatively, you can use both the front and rear mics simultaneously, which is perfect for interviews where you want to record audio from both the person filming behind the camera and the person in front
  4. 4K LG (Long Play)
4K with 1.18x crop for longer record times
  5. Vertical Recording Mode
It’s there, it’s new. You can film Full HD with it. The advantage is that you do not need to flip your camera to record vertically, hence it is more comfortable to hold in your hands when filming
  6. Cable Connection with X App
connect camera via cable to phone for fast transfer of files larger than 4GB to X App
  7. Recording Timer
Set a timer (30 / 60 seconds) and then record vertical video
  8. Bit Rates Expansion
New lower bit rates offered such as 25 mbps or even 8 mbps to generate smaller files
  9. Green Frame
when you record video in slow motion mode, the recording frame turns green (instead of red). This helps to avoid to erroneously record in slow motion – see screenshot here from this video
  10. Steady-State Noise Reduction
steady-state noise reduction function reduces noise that continues to sound at a certain frequency, such as the noise from an air conditioner.
  11. New portrait enhance mode
you can set it from strong to weak. Not completely new, as it was available on older Xacti cameras like X-T200 and X-A7

BONUS 1

  • USB-C Powering even with empty battery
I’m not entirely certain about this, but maybe you can help me out. The X-M5 can be powered via USB-C, as seen on other cameras, but it seems it can continue to operate even when the battery is completely drained. Normally, when the battery is empty, you have to wait for it to charge a bit before the camera can run on USB-C power again. The original concept was that if the power cable was accidentally unplugged, the battery would still have enough charge to keep the camera running and save your files. However, with the X-M5, it seems that’s no longer necessary—if powered via USB-C, the camera will keep running continuously, even with a fully drained battery. But on the other hand, if you are for example in an live talk online and you use the X-M5 as webcam, you prefer to have the camera running even without battery rather than switching off

BONUS 2

  • Good Bye Black Box
We are used to get our X gear shipped in black boxes. Well, that’s no longer the case with the X-M5, which will come in brown boxes (see here the screenshot taken from this video). I wonder if that’s the new color for all Fujifilm X gear going foward

FIRMWARE BONUS

  • Aperture switch
That’s a feature of the Fujinon XF16-55mmF2.8 II and allows for smooth brightness transition when adjusting aperture. It works now already on X-M5 but a firmware update will come to make it work with other cameras – quick example in this video

Fujifilm X100VI Zagato Limited Edition – BODY SKIN (UPDATED)

With the launch of the Fujifilm X100VI, Fujifilm also announced a limited edition Fujifilm X100VI that will come in a limited number of 1934 samples worldwide.

But now a Zagato edition of the Fujifilm X100VI has appeared online on the Chinese Weibo social media (see above).

I could not verify (until now) if this is a legit version or just a photoshopped Zagato X100VI or some special X100VI skin (like the ones offerd for X100VI by Alphagvrd).

If I should place a bet, I’d say this is a body skin in Alphagvrd style.

But if this really exists, then Fujifilm would become the 2nd brand who has ever offered a Zagato version of its cameras (if I am not wrong).

In fact, there is a limited Zagato edition offered with the Leica M10, limited to 250-piece and you can check it out here.

UPDATE: It’s a skin made by a Thai company here.
