See Fuji’s Future through the FujiRumors Crystal Ball: Huge 2015 Rumor Overview, Facts Check and Reliability Rating!

 photo Cyristal Ball Empty 2_zpskpkj7tm8.jpg

Many of you asked me to introduce a FR1 to FR5 rating system like on all the other rumor sites, but I honestly don’t like rumor ratings. Here is why:

As you might know, in 2014 I’ve shared 74 correct rumors (82% hit rate). Many of them came from new or anonymous sources. So, just because a rumor comes from a new/anonymous source, it doesn’t mean it is wrong or has a low credibility.

Sure, I receive also plenty of fake rumors shared by people, who apparently do not like FujiRumors for some reason, but I was able to debunk almost all of them… so all those fake rumors luckily never went online (it would be a long, fun list to publish one day)!

Also, consider that many rumors have been shared several months (and even over a year) before the real product hit the market. For example, FR-sources shared already in July 2014, that the X-PRO2 will feature a 24MP sensor (and I’m confident that this rumor is correct).

Such Super Early Leaks can often be a problem for FR, because products that were really in Fuji’s plans at the moment when the rumor was shared, were dropped by Fuji later on (see X70, dual card slot for X-T1 and more). So it happens that correct rumors turn out to be wrong at the end… sh*t happens ;) .

That being said, I understand your need of a rating within this rumor jungle. Therefore, once or twice a year, I sum up all the rumors and try to order them according to their reliability. The list includes also rumors shared in 2014 which are still not verified.

This is also the occasion for me to say a BIG THANK YOU to all sources, who shared right rumors in the past years. I think 82% is an good hit rate for a rumor site, and it would not be possible without your amazing help…. we are all looking forward to hear more from you :) .

cheers,

THE FACT CHECK 2015

NOTE about the 2015 rumor Fact Check. I have made 2 lists. A “fair list” and an “unfair list“. The fair lists consist in all the rumors shared by different sources at different times, each of them could have been right or wrong. On the other hand, in the unfair list I put everything into the same pot. It’s not fair towards the work of my sources, but I share it out of a pre-emptive self-defense from those who want to put every into the same pot.

Fuji’s first half 2015 (rumored) X-gear roadmap: 2 new X-series cameras, 1 more lens and a new flash!

 photo rumorroadmap_zps7e662a5f.jpg

Do you remember 2013, when Fujifilm released the X100S, X20, X-M1, X-A1, X-E2, XQ1, XF 14mm, XF 55-200mm, XF 27mm, XF 23mm, XC 50-230mm and XC 16-50mm? Well, times seem to be over, when Fujifilm frantically released X-gear after X-gear in order to build up an entire system from zero.

Maybe in 2015 we won’t see such an avalanche of new products as in 2013… but it could nevertheless be very interesting year, especially because…

… because of the Fujiflm X-PRO2. All the eyes (especially mine ;-) ) are focused on it. However, I try to keep my radar finely tuned also on the rest of possible Fuji X-gear.

So I’ve summed up rumors shared here on Fujirumors, focusing, for now, on the first half of 2015.

I did NOT include the X-PRO2 in the first half of 2015 list because, at the moment, release dates are simply too contradictory. They go from early or first half 2015 to second quarter and even to fall 2015 (at least they all say 2015 :-) ). I’ll wait for trusted sources to find out the facts and will then post an update with the release date.

And of course, you can help my rumor sleuthing by sharing your knowledge. Just contact FR at fujirumor [at] gmail [dot] com (with fake email account, if you want), or 100% anonymously via rumor box (possibly with nick-name, so that I can eventually recognize you in future).

First half 2015 rumored X-gear

I think that CP+ this year (February 12 to 15) could be way more interesting than the CES. So what could come in these first 6 months? Here is the list:

2 new X-series cameras:

  • an entry-level camera: my personal guess, X-A1/X-M1 replacement/successor (trusted source – read rumor here)

  • a fixed lens camera (Anonymous Source – read rumor here). There were rumors in the past about an X70 (read rumor here), an entry level version of the X100 series with 23mm f/2.8 lens. It was definitely in Fuji’s plans in 2013, but such plans were dropped later on (information of trusted source). I have NOT heard of a comeback of the X70 until now, but it’s the only fixed lens camera I have heard about in the past. However, it could well be a completely new camera… if the anonymous source is right, of course.

2 new lenses:

Three non-interchangeable lens X-cameras coming within this winter? X30, X100T and ? (anonymous source)

 photo whatathaJPEG_zpsd5ee7f77.jpg

First off: please take this rumor with a grain of salt. It comes from an anonymous source (with nick-name), so for now you should take it as a low rated rumor and not as a fact.

That said, here is what the anonymous source told us: Fuji will launch 3 non-interchangeable X-series cameras within this Winter. The source didn’t say anything else.

X30, X100T and ?

In the past we’ve heard rumors about an X70 (a cheaper version of the X100S). I know it was in Fuji’s plans last year, but, as far as I know, Fuji rejected projects for such a camera. So I don’t think it will be the X70 (but with Fuji you never know as they change plans often and quickly… which really drives me mad !!)

So, until now I’ve heard of an X30 and X100T. At the moment, I’ve honestly no idea what the third camera could be, but I promise you to follow the hint and try to dig up something for you…

… and in the meantime, the comments are open for your thoughts and wishes. An X100Z with zoom lens? A hybrid pixel or organic sensor camera? Whatever you dream of, feel free to drop it in the comments down below.

And of course, any help is highly appreciated (and in case you use the rumor box, feel free to use a nick-name).

X30 coming on July 3rd? (via dpreview)

 photo disc_zps3d7370f3.jpg

silver X20 discontinued at BHphoto

X20 (save $50): AmazonUS / BHphoto / Adorama / Pictureline

Hi all!

There is a forum member over at dpr, who claims to have the following information:

The X30 will be annonced on July 3rd. It will have a 1″ X-Trans sensor. There will also be a “cheaper compact based on the X100.” (the X70 rumored by Fujirumos already months ago here).

The source of the rumor? Well, the author (“labe”) gives different sources for his information (at one point saying “XJR china” (xjrumo) and another point saying “PM from a friend”).

I have to agree with FR-reader John (who passed me the link, thanks): „I guess it might be slightly more reliable (but only slightly) if there’s some photography event that day.“

The X30 was rumored to come in February/March by digicame-info. A FR-source corrected it and said that it was to early, as it will come in “summer”.

Size Comparison: X-T1 with XF 18-135mm and XF 10-24mm!

 photo facebook_zps066ba5c6.jpg

 photo face_zps790d1c16.png

Yesterday, a facebook follower shared the image you can see at the top in this facebook post. He asked me some information about the lens. I told him that the XF 18-135 (the first weather sealed lens in the Fuji lens line-up) could come in June and asked him what’s the source of the image.

I obviously made immediately a screenshot of the leaked image. So, although the follower deleted the image just a minute after he posted it, I was fast enough to copy it for you.

The image shows the size of the XF18-135 f/3.6-5.6 compared to the [shoplink 20414]XF 10-24[/shoplink].

And here is the still unofficial roadmap of Fujifilm

X-shooter zone: “I’m offcially selling my Nikon. The size and quality of the X system can’t be beaten!”

Finally some time for an X-shooter zone! This time we have 5 stories to tell:

1) Mike’s switch to the X.
2) Mehrdad talks about his inspiring liberation from the heavy DSLR’s and about street photography using his X-PRO1 and X100S
3) Jan photographed cars that have a top speeds of approximately 167,7 mph (270 km/h) and accelerate from 0-62,14 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3 seconds and also dogs running full speed towards a camera… with an X-PRO1. Fast action shots with an X-PRO1. Impossible… or not?
4) Robert’s thoughts about the XF 27mm [shoplink 13829](specs&price)[/shoplink] he used to shoot the “Linzer Höhenrausch”.
5) It’s well-known that Fuji X cameras produce awesome JPEG’s. This is why Daniel opened a new Flickr group for Fuji jpeg lovers.

Thanks for sharing all your stories and shots with Fujirumors… and keep it up!

enjoy your Sunday,

Hi Patrick,

I wanted to share a set with you to demonstrate use of graduated ND filters in Lightroom 5. I decided to try it out and it’s fantastic – I was finally able to produce that surreal mojo possessed by so many landscapes. These are all from a camping trip where I was able to bring my [shoplink 12881 ebay]X-E1[/shoplink], [shoplink 12946 ebay]Rokinon fisheye[/shoplink], [shoplink 12889 ebay]XF 35 1.4[/shoplink], [shoplink 12892 ebay]XF 55-200[/shoplink], and [shoplink 13645 ebay]Touit 12mm[/shoplink] in a [shoplink 14261]mirrorless mover bag[/shoplink], and hiked 8 miles with it no problem. I’m officially selling my Nikon DSLR and never looking back, the size and quality of the X system can’t be beat – looking forward to the X70.

All the best, and keep up the great work!

Mehrdad

[Patrick: I’m happy to see that sometimes the story doesn’t end in a FR-readers roundup for you. For FR-readers, the X-shooter zone is not only an opportunity to give your websites more visibility, but also to get in contact with other X-photographers. Some of you also sold beautiful books through a post on FR and others are asked to give an interview to an important retailer. So it happens that the store pictureline noticed Mehrdad’s great shots on Fujirumros and asked him for an interview about street photography. You can read it here in English or in German here.]

“I always have my x100s with me, and I really do mean always! I also often have my [shoplink 12882]X-Pro 1[/shoplink] with me. This was impossible for me with the [shoplink 16850 ebay]Canon 5D MKII[/shoplink], which I have used previously. The size and weight are big advantages, too. Maybe this was the biggest game changer for my street photography. Now I am able to have my camera wherever I go and take photos that I would otherwise not have taken.

Travelling light weight is so liberating and gives me so much inspiration.

Images taken with long focal lengths, such as a 90mm or longer, also rarely turn out for me. I prefer wide angle lenses. The [shoplink 12883]X100S’s[/shoplink] 23mm and the X-Pro 1′s 14mm are my preferred focal lengths. I find that the wide angle lenses help the viewer to dive into the scene — to “smell the street.”

Jan Oscarsson

Hello Patrick,

I have been following FR for a couple of months, not posting much in the comments. But when I saw the comments on your latest post, the one where Bert Stephanie has shot some soccer with the X-E2, I just had to post something. Bert does a great job sharing his knowledge and his images and people just rants on about the AF and high f-stops. I felt I had to share my own findings about the AF-speed and accuracy of the X-serie cameras, and as Bert says you can clearly shoot soccer as well as other action with the Fuji. I didn’t want to hijack the thread and link to my own blog, but If you want to, you are welcome to post my blog post thru Fuji rumors. Keep up the good work. Here is the link: http://www.oscarsson.dk/blog/?p=1205

Hi Patrick,

just finished my photo essay of the “Linzer Höhenrausch” – an exhibition dedicated to towers on top of the roofs in the city of Linz. I took 95% of the photos with the new [shoplink 13829]fujinon xf27[/shoplink]f lens and shared my impressions here:

the photos can be found inside my Gallery: http://www.refro.at/refroto/wp/?page_id=103

Keep up the interesting work! like so many others, there’s no day for me without stopping at fujiumors :-)

Daniel

Hi Patrick,

Being a long time Fuji X user (now near enough 3 years) and a Fuji jpeg lover I thought it might be time to start a new flickr group for us jpeg shooters.

Like a lot of Fuji users I also find the jpeg´s ooc so great that I rarely use the raw files.
Some time back I also wrote up a blog entry about why I shoot jpegs and what my favorite settings are.

http://www.stockografie.de/2013/04/fuji-x-or-why-i-mostly-shoot-jpegs.html

So here it is. Feel free to post this on Fuji Rumors if you wish

Now we know a lot more about the X-E2 (read the XPC-special here). Faster AF (PDAF/CDAF hybrid autofocus system), Lens Modulation Optimizer, vastly improved EVF, bigger and better LCD screen, face detection and more… Is it reason enough to upgrade from the X-E1? And what about those who are thinking to switch to the X? Should they grab the discounted X-E1+kit lens or pay more to get the brand new X-E2?

Feel free to drop your opinion in the comments.

You can buy the $200 off X-E1 with kit lens here at AmazonUS / BHphoto / Adorama / Pictureline.

X-E2 initial impressions and thoughts by Randall Cipriano

After his EVF comaparison X-E1 vs X-E2 here (where Randall shows us the amazing, lag-free performance of the X-E2’s EVF), now he also shared his initial impressions and thoughts about the X-E2 on his blog here.

“I will reserve any comments about image quality till after I run it through a proper shoot but all-in-all, I’m happy and welcome all the improvements implemented on the X-E2. Physically, it looks like the same camera, but only after using it will you realize the differences and improvements are significant.”
