Fuji’s latest lens addition has “high-end” written all over it. The XF16mmF1.4 R WR is a fast, weather- and dust-sealed wide-angle prime lens with Nano-GI coating (to eliminate flare and ghosting), a 0.21x magnification close-up capability with a minimum focus distance of only 15 cm (thanks to two floating focus groups) and nine aperture blades for a smooth bokeh with circular blur discs.

The lens also features two aspherical elements and two ED (extra low-dispersion) elements that minimize spherical and chromatic aberrations to surprisingly low levels and deliver corner-sharp images even at the widest aperture setting of f/1.4:

PRESS RELEASES

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Shigehiro Nakajima) is proud to announce that a new FUJINON LENS XF16mmF1.4 R WR will be added to the X-Series interchangeable lens line-up in mid-May 2015.

The lens has a fixed focal length of 16mm (24mm in 35mm format equivalent) and offers a dramatic wide field of view and stunning optical performance. The F1.4 maximum aperture delivers high image quality in low-light conditions and bokeh-rich macro photography with the minimum working distance of 15cm. Featuring high-speed autofocus, a weather- and dust-resistant structure that can work in temperatures as low as -10°C, and great portability thanks to its compact size, the shooting possibilities are further expanded.
The FUJINON fast aperture lens quintet is now complete. The XF16mmF1.4 R WR is the latest addition to the popular XF23mmF1.4 R, XF35mmF1.4 R, XF56mmF1.2 R, and XF56mmF1.2 R APD lens.

[Image] “FUJINON XF16mmF1.4 R WR” product image

1. Main Features

(1) 13 elements in 11 groups and Nano GI Coating for high image quality

The optical design includes two aspherical elements and two ED (extra low-dispersion) elements, which reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations to deliver sharp, rich image quality even at the widest aperture of F1.4. The image quality is further enhanced by Fujifilm’s proprietary HT-EBC coating applied to the all lens surfaces and Nano GI Coating on the rear surface of G1 lens. This alters the refractive index between glass and air, to reduce ghosting and flare from diagonal incident light.

(2) Minimum working distance of 15cm

By getting closer to a subject the bokeh is enhanced and perspective is more dynamic, which gives the wide-angle photographer greater creativity. Use the XF16mm F1.4 R WR to photograph a plate of food with the restaurant in the background, for example, or a water droplet on a plant with forest in the background and both the subject and its surroundings can be captured at the same time. High image quality is achieved throughout the focus range by correcting various aberrations, even at minimum working distance of 15cm, and a Floating Focus System driven by two focus groups that work in conjunction with each other according to the working distance.

(3) High-speed autofocus as fast as 0.11sec*

A Rear Focusing System is used for high-speed autofocus. Autofocus, as fast as 0.11sec is achieved by a built-in high-torque DC coreless motor driving the focus unit. This makes the lens ideal for street shooting and portraiture.

  • * Complies with CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association) guidelines, internal measurement, during high performance mode, according to Fujifilm as of 16th April 2015

(4) Focus ring with depth-of-field scale

The focus ring comes with a depth-of-field scale, which is perfect for street photographers. By calculating the distance and adjusting the aperture setting, users can shoot spontaneously.

(5) Weather, Dust, and Freeze Resistance

The weather-resistant structure features 9 seals in 8 areas on the lens barrel. These keep the lens protected from sudden rain, dust and splashes of water. And the XF16mmF1.4 R WR features a design that absorbs the temperature difference between the outer and inner parts of the lens to minimize the impact on optical parts and also uses electronic parts that guarantee operation in low temperatures down to -10°C.

(6) Lightweight and compact

At approx. 375g the lens is around 40% of the weight of its DSLR equivalent. This is great news for all photographers who want a versatile lens that delivers the highest optical performance in a very compact size.

(7) Accessories, Lens Hood LH-X16** Sold separately

The pursuit of premium quality extends to the high-precision finish of the metal lens hood, and multiplies the pleasure of ownership.

  • ** Available in September 2015

NEW IMAGES of XF 90mmF2 & XF 16mmF1.4 WR + NEW ROADMAP with BETTER VIEW of when lenses are coming!

NEW XF 90mmF2 & XF 16mmF1.4

FujiXworld published a new image of the XF90mmF2… no markings on the lens, but we know from Fuji Guy Greg himself that it is going to be weather sealed. And as Markus noticed “it appears Fuji has greatly reduced the diameter of this lens compared to what was shown at the Photokina.”.

They also show a new image of the XF 16mmF1.4, and this time we can clearly read the “WR”& Nano GI coating markings :)

NEW ROADMAP

Just 2 days ago, Fujifilm published a new roadmap. But there was a bit of confusion, because Fujifilm ordered the lenses from left to right according to their focal length, and not their estimated release time… making the time indication much more vague.

Well, now in the roadmap at the bottom of this post, you can see the lenses ordered more clearly, this means with the horizontal position showing the release time.

So we can see that:

XF 16mmF1.4 & XF 90mmF2 should come in the first half of 2015
– XF 35mmF2 somewhere around next fall (right in time for the X-PRO2??)
– XF 100-400 early 2016
– XF 120mmF2.8 1:1 Macro around spring 2016

XF 16mmF1.4 and 90mmF2 will be Weather Sealed too (and join the 35mmF2 WR prime lens)! – source: Fuji Guy Greg

 photo asd_zpsoambrlu9.png

What a day! Fuji just unveiled the new Roadmap here, said that the XF 35mmF2 will be weather sealed... and now this:

In an interview with Greg from the Fuji Guys, bigheadtaco was able to get the following information:

I asked Greg why no prime WR lenses and he said they are coming soon. He mentioned the new 90mm f/2 and the 16mm f/1.4 are going to be WR lenses, but the lens roadmap doesn’t mention it.

So the weather resitant prime familiy will consist in the XF16mmF1.4, XF90mmF2 and XF35mmF2.

You want to know more about it? Well, all you have to do is to stay tuned at FujiRumos… and thanks, nice spot Jonavin ;)
