Fujifilm GFX 50s (Ken Wheeler) Vs. Sony A9 (Jason Lanier) Shootout :: Kevin Mullins GFX Review :: GFX Problem :: Fringer Adapter Available (GFX zone)

Ok… this is probably the first real life shootout between the Fujifilm GFX 50s and the Sony A9. And the guys engaged is this (friendly) battle are Ken Wheeler (the angry photographer) and Jason Lanier (a well known Sony Artisan). You can check out the shootout at Jason Lanier Youtube.

Latest FUJIFILM Earnings Report Says X-series, Lenses and Fujifilm GFX 50s Sell Strong. Imaging Solution “Substantial Increase in Income”

The full Fujifilm earnings report is finally out. And there are good news for X-series as well as GFX lovers. Here some excerpts.

“The business of electronic imaging achieved a sales growth due to positive sales of the X Series of mirrorless digital cameras such as FUJIFILM X-T2 and FUJIFILM X-T20 as well as their interchangeable lenses, and strong sales of the FUJIFILM GFX 50S, a medium-format mirrorless digital camera equipped with a large sized sensor, released in February.”

The sales of the Imaging Solutions segment decreased, due to the negative effect of the appreciation of the Japanese yen in the foreign exchange market However its income grew thanks to the sales expansion of instant photo systems and digital cameras which are high-end models as well as improved profitability in various business categories. On the operation base, the segment enjoyed increased sales and substantial increase in income.”

In another report, they also mention the Fujifilm X100F and X-A3, as well as the MK Cine lenses

“In the electronic imaging field of the optical device and electronic imaging business, overall sales increased due to strong sales in FUJIFILM X-T2 launched in September 2016, FUJIFILM X-A3 and interchangeable lenses.

In addition, FUJIFILM GFX 50S, a medium format mirrorless digital camera, adopting a big sensor (43.8mm by 32.9mm) which was released in February 2017, together with FUJIFILM X100F and FUJIFILM X-T20 as the latest models of X Series which enables the prominent photograph image quality through its unique technology in re-generating original colors, led the sales increase.

In the optical device field, though the sales of camera modules for use in smartphones decreased, the Group is seeking to expand global market share of the cinema lenses with FUJINON MK18-55mm T2.9 , relesased in Februaly 2017, which has gained high reputation from the market for its advanced optical performance, ultra-compact and lightweight design, and excellent cost performance.”

The latest accounting errors do not seem to have a particulary huge negative impact, as we already reported earlier today here.

I took this 80MP composition last friday with the Fujifilm GFX 50s:

I am so impressed by the low light capabilities of this camera that I even did an how-to video explaining how this photograph was created :

Photographers that ever tried to catch the milky way in a middle of a city would know the challenges of capturing it in environment with high light pollution. It is one of those impossible shots that need really specific conditions to be obtainable. Lookup for “milky way Sydney” on Google and mostly all shots you will see are composite (e.g. milky way shot in one location added in Sydney) – well not in this case here.

I recently setup – after discussing with @apoapsisphotography and @clement_breuille – a challenge to get the milky way in the middle of an highly populated city – during a light festival. Turns out, this place had to be Vivid Sydney (if you are in Sydney, go pay a visit, this is awesome).

When I acquired this camera, I didn’t know what to expect, or even, if I would keep it. I already own a marvel of engineering: the Sony A7r2. This camera never failed to deliver, even in some of the harshest and remotest places of this world. It also helped me win the french national awards of the Sony World Photo Organization and to be nominated Top 5 Travel Photographer by Australian Photography. I couldn’t be happier.

Fujifilm X100F Firmware Update 1.01 Available

I’ve already reported about the Firmware update for Fujifilm GFX, X-T2, X-Pro2, X-T20 and X-T1 earlier today first here on FujiRumors.

Well, Fujifilm also released the Firmware update for X100F. The firmware update Ver.1.01 from Ver.1.00 incorporates the following issues:

  1. The phenomenon is fixed that ISO cannot be changed by the command dial when ISO is set to AUTO by Camera Remote via WiFi connection to a smartphone or a tablet.
  2. When a camera turns on in MF mode, the focus position comes to the original position where a camera turned off.
  3. The phenomenon is fixed that in MF mode, a focus can shift in a specified condition (ex. repeated CL shooting).
  4. Improvement of operability for the command dials.

Venus Optics Announces World’s First Lens Adapter that Enlarges Image Circle of FF Lenses for Vignetting-less Use on Fujifilm GFX 50S

Venus Optics just announced an adapter which allows to use Full Frame Canon EF and Nikon AI lenses on the Fujifilm GFX 50s. But it’s different from the existing products (Fotodiox / Kipon) in the market.

Because of the smaller image circle for DSLR FF lenses, when you use FF on GFX with an adapter, there can be more or less vignetting. However, Venus Optics has included glasses into their adapter which can enlarge the image circle of the FF lenses and so it can be used with GFX even with the wide angle lens without vignetting.

However, keep in mind that “it has a focal length multiplier of 1.4x and reduces the maximum aperture by 1-stop.”… which makes it a teleconverter/adapter.

Their are looking for beta testers… more below in the official press release (dowload RAW files)

Hi, guys, here you can see one wedding shot with a combo of GFX & Xpro2
You can appreciate the GFX files by the DOF and quality of color rendering, and for the ISO, especially the last ones at Aguascalientes shot at 8000 ISO, the two last one in train station at 12800 ISO.
My style is photojournalistic, but I enjoyed using this camera in many moments, specially good when you have the couple in a controlled space ( getting ready moments, Ceremony, dance, or for the portraits ( outdoors or not )
Yes, I will use this camera in all my weddings this year.
