Fujifilm GFX100 II Best SSD for External Recording as Officially Recommended by Fujifilm

Best SSD

With the Fujifilm GFX100 II, Fujifilm introduced the capability to connect an external SSD via a USB Type-C cable to record photos and videos directly to an external SSD in all modes and formats, including 4K/60p and 8K/30p.

However, depending on the type of SSD, there are some modes and formats that cannot be recorded.

That’s why down below we will share the full compatibility list for SSD recommended by Fujifilm based on their own testings. The following SSD is recommended by Fujifilm.

Out of all these, the ones that work best (access to all video codecs and formats) are:

The Hidden Fujifilm X-H1 Specs that Fujifilm Does not Mention in Specs Sheets: SD Relay Recording and More!

Earlier today I have shared the detailed X-T2 Vs. X-H1 comparison, focussing on the differences between these two cameras.

And even though the Fujifilm X-H1 specs have been taken from the leaked specs sheet here, there are some things, that Fujifilm does not mention to you.

So, new rumor for you today:

  • Fujifilm X-H1 will have SD Relay Recording, which means that when one SD-card gets full while you record your video, then the camera automatically continues to record to other card. That’s not possible on the Fujifilm X-T2 currently.

But there is more. As we shared in earlier rumors:

  • shorter EVF blackout (I’m sure it will be shorter compared to X-T2, but we have to see how much shorter)
  • Face detection will be available in 4K video

Sure, these are technically still only rumors, but I am confident they are correct. In the meantime, I have updated our in depth Fujfiilm X-T2 vs. X-H1 specs comparison.

Fujifilm X-T2 Firmware 4.00: First Looks, New Features Test and Follow Up on Possible External Monitor Recording Bug

So the Fujifilm X-T2 firmware 4.00 is out since a few days now, and we can now find more and more people enjoying the new features and sharing their testings on the web.

You will find a selection of X-T2 firmware 4.00 testings down below.

But first, a mandatory update to a possible bug we reported here. The issue is that when shooting F-log with an external monitor plugged in via HDMI, the X-T2 shows it is recording onto the SD-card, but in fact it is not.

Now Josh uploaded part 2 of the video, and he shows the different settings he used. A bug? Or maybe something wrong with the settings? Feel free to leave your feedback in the comments.

And here is more feedback and testing.

ANNOUNCEMENT

NEW GEAR! We are thrilled to announce the latest project from @old_fast_glass and @ofgcustoms – The OFG Customs 65.

With the release of the @fujifilmx_us GFX100 II, we knew we wanted to develop a camera system that would harness the full potential of this camera. It has one of the largest available sensors for cinematography approaching the size of the Alexa 65.

We modified the camera, and designed a new housing that completely integrates the camera, RAW Recorder, video/power distro, cooling system, cage, handle/EVF, and baseplate systems, ready for the demands of professional sets. We wanted to remove the mess of cables, rods, adapters, and messy builds that come with using compact mirrorless cameras. In short, we wanted you to pull the camera out of the case, attached a battery and lens, and you’re ready to shoot.

Why make a GFX100 II bigger? It’s already a capable, compact camera ready to shoot professional video. But we wanted the full size, “studio” version of the camera with more functionality. Now you can go into the field with an OFG Customs 65 as A-Cam, and take a couple standard GFX100 II as your B and C-Cams, and they will all give you the same gorgeous images, but in different form factors for different needs. The 65 is on sticks, dolly, crane, or handheld, while the stripped down GFX100 II can be on a gimbal, car mount, or even crash cam. And they will all be giving post production the same look, and the same codec, making both set and post production easier.

If you are curious to get first looks at the camera, we will be at NAB Sunday and Monday, Central Hall near the Fujililm exhibit. We hope to see you there! The camera is available now for rentals!

Footage coming soon!

via Old Fast Glass

CineD

CineD is at the NAB show and has the GFX100II cinema camera covered on YouTube (see below)

Old Fast Glass says in the interview they would not have made the effort to make such a camera if it had only a full frame sensor. But when the GFX100II came out the specs where amazing and the sensor is much larger than full frame, so they decided they want to make it. They also love Fujifilm color science.

Old Fast Glass also said that Fujifilm was very excited about this project. It’s a win-win for both, as it validates their GFX camera for cinema use.

You can check out the full interview below as well as see the camera covered on the CineD website.
