Leaked Fujinon XC 13-33mm F3.5-6.3 – Surprising Specs and the First XC Lens to Truly Tempt Me!

We can now share the main specs of the upcoming Fujinon XC 13-33mm F3.5-6.3 OIS.

And we are going to compare them to the XC 15-45mm F3.5-5.6.

There are a couple of nice surprises: the XC13-33mm is more compact, lighter, yet has a more sophisticated lens design (hence likely a better image quality). It comes with 9 rounded aperture blades instead of 7 (better bokeh?). It also has a more powerful optical image stabilization and a mechanical zoom instead of a powerzoom. I also like that the minimum focus distance is fixed at 20cm through the entire range.

That’s quite a nice set of improvements!

I guess for many this could be an ideal ultra-portable kit zoom lens for many X-M5, X-E5 and X-T30III or X-T50 owners.

This is actually the first XC lens that has truly caught my interest and I can’t wait to finally see it unveiled on October 23 at 1AM New York time.

If the image quality is good, it could be an ultra compact alternative to my XF10-24mmF4.

I feel like Fujifilm has made lots of correct choices when it comes to developing the XC13-33mmF3.5-6.3.

But just out of curiosity, I will also share the estimated specs that Fujifilm itself mentioned in what some (erroneously) consider the hidden Fujifilm X mount lens roadmap:

Fujifilm X-T30 III vs X-T30 II – Here are the Main Differences

According to our sources, the upcoming Fujifilm X-T30 III will have lots in common with the Fujifilm X-T30 II: same body, so much so that at a first glance one might not see any difference at all.

However, there is one exterior and one internal difference.

On the outside, instead of the drive dial, you’ll get the film simulation dial with the FS1 to FS3 position, in which you can also store your personal film simulation recipes.

On the inside, you’ll still find the trusted X-Trans IV 26MP sensor, but this time coupled with the new X Processor 5.

Of course this means a certain performance boost for the X-T30 III, such as 6K 4:2:2 10bit recording (X-T30II shoots 4K max), the better autofocus algorithm with all sorts of subject detection modes, more film simulations (all 20 currently available) and more.

I guess those are the main differences: not many, but relevant ones.

French Fujifilm managers gave an interview to the French website Phototrend. Here is the summary:

Market Share

  • 12% of the market share in value of APS-C sensor hybrids
  • Including compacts like the GFX 100RF and X100VI (the best seller), Fujifilm reaches about 13–14% of the French global photo market
  • Excellent dynamic, Fujifilm is progressing in each segment
  • Fujifilm wants to become Nr.3 on the market

Since Nikon is currently the No.3 brand, Fujifilm France aims to surpass them. And, as we’ll see below, the Fujifilm X-E5 appears to be leading that charge in 2025.

Fujifilm X-E5 Sales and About Taking Risks

  • X-E5 has clearly been biggest success of the last 12 months
  • Fujifilm is offering a wide range of cameras, from X half to X-H2S, catering to different needs and budgets for young smartphone photographers seeking an upgrade
  • GFX100RF sales far beyond expectation. A great start and now sales stabilized but is curve remains healthy
  • GFX100RF has found its place between Leica Q3 or the Sony RX1R III
  • X100VI still not that easy to find, although some retailers have stock
  • X half is a bet, a new concept. For generations used to vertical format
  • Instax Pal failed in Europe. But you have to innovate and try some risks. Sometimes it will work, sometimes not
  • The GFX Eterna 55 combines this optical expertise with a cinema ambition. Fujifilm targets short movies productions with cinema quality
  • The €1500–€2500 hybrid segment is saturated, so the challenge is to either move toward more accessible models like the X-M5 or elevate the offer with tools like Eterna
  • Instax still successful, with Instax Mini 12 being the best seller. Instax Mini EVO also still selling well
  • Instax Wide EVO is also selling well
  • Instax cameras that let users preview photos before printing haven’t reduced film sales—people now print only their best shots, and they often print it multiple times to share with others

Increasing Prices

  • price has increased and except for X-M5 there is no sub-1K camera anymore
  • second hand prices are under 1K, it’s a great, sustainable and ecological alternative

Third Party Lens Bundles

  • retailers can sell XF23mmF2.8 as a kit with other Fujifilm cameras
  • the only thing Fujifilm wants to make sure of, is that retailers do not bundle third party lenses with Fujifilm cameras

RUMOR: Fujifilm X-T30 III Coming with Film Simulation Dial on X-T30 II Body

According to our information, the Fujifilm X-T30III will use basically the same body of the trusted Fujifilm X-T30II.

However, there will be one difference: the X-T30II drive dial will be replaced by the film simulation dial we find on the Fujifilm X-M5 and Fujifilm X-T50.

As an Fujifilm X-E5 owner, I can say Fujifilm’s implementation of the film simulation dial on that camera is wonderfully elegant. On the X-T30III, though, such a solution won’t be necessary due to its different SLR-style layout compared to the X-E5’s rangefinder design.

Fujifilm X-T6 and X-H3 with 80 Megapixel? Let’s Talk About it!

 

Over the past year, I’ve been flooded with emails asking if the 80-megapixel Fujifilm X-Trans VI sensor rumor could be true.

And for more than I year now I’ve chosen to stay silent on FujiRumors and replied to each email individually.

But recently yet another message arrived asking the same question.

So, after 12+ months of staying quiet and not writing a single word about it, I think it’s finally time to share my take on this “rumor” publicly. And from now on, whoever asks me about it, will get a link to this post.

The question is: will the Fujifilm X-T6, X-H3, X-E6, or X-Pro4 really have 80 megapixels?

LEAKED: Fujinon XC13-33mmF3.5-6.3 Finally Fixes What (Most) Photographers Hated About the XC15-45

We told you Fujifilm will launch the Fujinon XC13-33mmF3.5-6.3 in 2025.

I don’t know if this is going to replace the Fujinon XC15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ, but since it is coming in 2025, I would not be surprised if the Fujinon XC13-33mm would be the new kit lens for the upcoming Fujifilm X-T30 III.

With that said, was a new kit lens really needed?

Well, some might appreciate the wider end (13 instead of 15). But there is another difference that for me is even more important: the new Fujinon XC13-33mmF3.5-6.3 will get rid of the PZ (powerzoom) and have mechanical zoom.

For me this is a welcome change as I vastly prefer mechanical zooms. And if I read through the comments in the last few weeks, I have the impression that most of you also prefer it over the powerzoom.

The last powerzoom I owned was this one, but that is from the times before I went all-in with Fujifilm MILC and I was still trying to find the best mirrorless system for my needs. It was a fine lens, I certainly loved its compactness, but I never grew fond of the powerzoom function.

I’m glad to see that the XC13–33mmF3.5–6.3 features a mechanical zoom—this alone makes the lens feel much more practical and worthwhile to me.

Fujinon XC 13-33mm to Be Launched Along with Fujifilm X-T30 III

Little update regarding the rumored Fujinon XC13-33mmF3.5-6.3.

The lens will be offered also as a kit lens for the upcoming Fujifilm X-T30 III, hence they will be launched together this month.

I am not sure if it is basically going to replace this kit lens here, but it certainly sounds like that.

A Lovely Combo: Fujifilm X-T30 III Coming with 26MP Sensor and 5th Gen Processor

I always thought it might end up this way, but so far all I had were my own speculations.

But now we have sort of “confirmed”, because a trusted source told me that the Fujifilm X-T30 III will indeed use the 4th generation sensor in combination with the 5th generation processor.

I think that’s a great and efficient combo that has proved to work really well already on the Fujifilm X-S20. So I applaud this decision by Fujifilm, since not only the combo works great (faster sensor readout, less heat generation, etc), but it will also allow to keep the price of the camera lower (that 40MP sensor ain’t cheap).
