Fujifilm X-T3 Firmware Update in Spring/Summer will Bring “a Significant Number” of Fujifilm X-T4 features to X-T3

We just had to debunk a rumor, about an imminent arrivial of Fujifilm X-T3 firmware 4.0.

We confirm, the firmware is NOT coming soon, hence the screenshot you see in this post with the firmware update list, is 100% fake. Fujifilm is NOT currently editing the firmware page to release a new firmware very soon.

Here is the rumor we received from sources (thanks):

a significant number of the new features in X-T3 successor will be introduced to X-T3 via firmware updates in the spring/summer

So, there will be eventually one, but the wait is definitely longer, and Fujifilm is NOT editing their firmware page right now, as the firmware has still to be developed. So no need to format your SD-Card, fellow X-T3 users ;).

But the day the firmware comes, what could be the features? Easy to upgrade should be:

  • digital image stabilization
  • new film simulations Classic Negative and Bleach Bypass
  • AF Range limiter, Clarity adjustment, handheld HDR feature
  • 240 fps

But that’s all just speculation from my side. Nobody knows the precise features yet.

The Fujifilm X-T4 will be announced February 25/26 (depending on your time zone here)

FAKE: No Imminent Fujifilm X-T3 Firmware 4.0 Update Coming

The screenshot above showing a Fujifilm X-T3 firmware 4.0 has been sent to me by so many FR readers today, that I simply must take position on it, or my phone will keep up ringing with messages about this firmware.

The screenshot has been shared on fujirumors comments here (original post on dpreview, but since then been removed).

So let me say it clearly: there is NO imminent firmware 4.0 for Fujifilm X-T3 coming, as the screenshot suggest.

The firmware has still to be developed, so it’s impossible Fujifilm is setting up the firmware page for imminent release now. The firmware will come much later, could be as late as summer, and the features have not yet been decided.

I hope that was clear enough.

Look closely, and you’ll see down below how easily something like this is done ;)

We Repeat, Fujifilm X-H2 will Come, but not in 2020

Fellow FR-readers!

We would like to underline once again, that we always told told you since back in 2019, that unlike many other reports where saying, the Fujifilm X-H line is NOT canceled.

It seems that our persistance worked, as slowly I finally see the web trusting us in regard that the Fujifilm X-H2 will come.

It remains to be seen if it really has the new 43 megapixel Sony sensor or not.

We remind you that Fujifilm always defined the Fujifilm X-H1 as flagship, and so will also the Fujifilm X-H2.

And if you don’t trust me, then trust Fujifilm managers, who already said here, that both lines, the X-H and X-T, will continue to exist in future.

New Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2:1 Macro Gets Fantastic Reviews: “Fujifilm Has a Reason to Get Nervous Now”

Very recently, Venus Optics launched the Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2:1 Macro.

You can get it at the Venus Optics store (pick this option for fastest shipping) and also at BHphoto, AmazonUS, Adorama.

Now we have a couple of reviews out there, and they are extremely positive.

Let’s start with opticalllimits (former photozone). Their conclusion from their full review here:

The Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO is a stunning performer with just a few minor weaknesses.

Its biggest value proposition is the excellent resolution. At f/2.8, the center is tack sharp with a hint of softness at the image corners. However, at f/5.6, the quality is as good as it gets! Lateral CAs, as well as distortions, are non-existent. There’s a tad of vignetting at fully open aperture but it’s by no means disturbing and it can be reduced by stopping down.

The quality of the bokeh is good. The foreground blur is very smooth whereas the background blur could be better. Out of focus highlights are nicely rendered at f/2.8 but you can spot that the lens doesn’t feature curved aperture blades at smaller aperture settings.

A big plus in our book is the lack of axial CAs which is already a massive achievement alone but even more so at this price point.

Not all Laowa lenses are excellent but some are and the Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO is certainly among them.

Canon, Fujifilm & the likes have reasons to get a little nervous by now.

As of today, Laowa is still a niche player today but once they’ll be able to source the necessary parts for implementing AF and electronic coupling, they’ll be heading straight for the mainstream.

Also Jonas Rask reviewed the Laowa 65mm f/2.8 here. Among tons of great samples, he writes:

I really shouldn’t be surprised by Laowa offering high quality at a very affordable price. The last couple of lenses that I’ve used from them have all been stellar performers, and the Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO is probably the best of them so far. It’s incredibly versatile. Incredibly sharp. Renders beautiful out of focus areas and focus falloff while keeping it all in a very well-built compact package. This is indeed another hit lens from Laowa if you ask me. And I’m not even into macro!

Fantastic reviews also from Christopher Forst and Micael Widell. You can see their videos below.
