FUJIFILM Announces possible XF 50mmF1.0 Shipping Delay due to Demand Exceeding by Far Fuji’s Expectations

The Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0 is scheduled to be be released in September 24/25.

But now Fujifilm has issued an official press release, where they announce that demand is far stronger than they expected, and hence there is a possibility that there will be shipping-delays. Fujifilm writes:

The “Fujinon Lens XF50mm F1.0 R WR” announced on September 3, 2020 (Thursday) has received inquiries far exceeding our expectations, and we cannot deliver the product on the release date. There is a possibility.

We are currently working hard to meet the number of requests, and we appreciate your understanding.

Fujifilm is not a company that uses the “high demand” phrase too often. When they decide to inform us about high demand, then it’s usually also accurate.

I think last time they spoke about “high demand” it was for the Fujifilm GFX100, and we all know how that ended (biblical long waiting times and 50% higher demand that Fujifilm expected).

Here on FujiRumors, the brand new Fujinon XF50mmF1.0 enjoys one of the strongest XF lens pre-orders of all time, so at least our little FR-Universe seems to confirm Fuji’s statement.

Fujifilm XF50mmF1.0 vs XF56mmF1.2 Face/Eye Autofocus Comparison

In the youtube videos below, Reggie and Ken quickly compare the autofocus performance of the Fujinon XF50mmF1.0 vs. Fujinon XF56mmF1.2.

Reggie says:

The 50mm f1.0 seems to have less autofocus pulsing when continuously tracking a subject.

Keep in mind that this is still pre-production firmware.

Fujifilm GFX100 ProRes RAW does Not Support White Balance Adjustment

Jordan from DPReview goes over the latest Final Cut Pro update, which improves ProRes RAW support, including important new features such as the ability to change your white balance and ISO after the fact!

Now in Final Cut Pro you have a drop down menu to set your ISO, you have a slider for your white balance and a slider for exposure compensation.

Currently this is only supported in Final Cut Pro, but other video editing software should follow.

But there is a problem!

Jordan points out in the video, that not all cameras get those two much needed features (ISO and white balance adjustment).

At the moment there seems to be full support only for Z Cam cameras and Panasonic cameras.

The Fujifilm GFX100 supports the ISO adjustment, but not the white balance adjustment, which is so important when shooting RAW video.

Other cameras are even worse. The Nikon Z series does not support either ISO nor white balance adjustment.

Jordan concludes:

I hope that, whoever is responsible, Atomos, Apple or the camera manufacturers, they can get to work and make all of these cameras fully compatible with these features

Dear Fujifilm, set up a zoom meeting with Apple and Atomos, and get this fixed soon, please!
