ePHOTOzine Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR Review: “Credit to Fuji’s Design Team: Superb Performance in Compact Package”

As a long time owner of the original XF27mmF2.8 (which I have sold to get the new version with aperture ring), I have always admired how good of a lens Fujifilm was able to make in such a small package.

This is why I was very happy when my sources told be the optical formula of the new XF27mm f/2.8 R WR will remain the same of the old version.

The only thing I always wanted was an aperture ring. And when Fujifilm finally made it come true, I remember how on the first day the lockdown was lifted, I jumped in my car and drove straight to the camera store, where I was able to grab the very last available sample of this lens (and it has never come back in stock since then).

For me, it’s a truly enjoyable lens to use. And the 40mm equivalent focal length is the sweet spot for me. A bit wider than my XF35mmF1.4 which I find useful at times, but also a bit more compressed look over my XF23mmF1.4 (a true workhorse at the recent wedding I shot).

It now lives its life glued on X-E3.

And to everyone having one of those on pre-order, be patient, you’ll be rewarded with a little but awesome performer that is very joyful to use.

And just to confirm how good of a lens this is, look at what ePHOTOzine wrote in their latest Fujinon XF27mm f/2.8 R WR review and check out the customer reviews

Clarifying Why Some Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 R WR Come with Lens Hood and Others Not

There is a bit of confusion going on, and quite frankly also some undeserved sh*tstorm on Fujifilm.

So let me clarify.

Along with the Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 R WR, Fujifilm also released a new LH-XF27 lens hood and the LHCP-27 lens hood cap.

Here is the thing:

When unboxing their new XF27mmF2.8 R WR, some FR-readers noticed that the LH-XF27 and the LHCP-27 are included in the box, while others did not get these accessories along with their new lens.

The reason for this is simple:

If you bought the XF27mmF2.8 R WR only, then you’ll get the LH-XF27 and the LHCP-27 included with your purchase. If you got it bundled with the Fujifilm X-E4, then the LH-XF27 and LHCP-27 are not included.

This confused some X shooters and others also got quite frustrated about it and dropped angry one star reviews on this lens complaining about it.

But while I understand the confusion, I can’t comprehend such heated spirits and certainly it’s an overkill to give the lens a 1 star review for that.

Why?

Because the Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 R WR costs $400 if purchased alone. But if you grab it with X-E4, then you’ll get the XF27mmF2.8 R WR for only $200 on top of the X-E4 body only price.

So yep, you save $200 if you buy the XF27MKII with X-E4.

In the light of the $200 saved, it should not break the bank to pay the few bucks it needs to get both these accessories separately.

Yes, sure, it wouldn’t have broken Fuji’s bank either to just include these accessories also when bundled with the X-E4. But given the $200 rebate on the lens, if you grab it with the X-E4, customers will still make a hell of a deal.

IN STOCK: Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 R WR at Adorama

The Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 R WR is now in stock at Adorama here.

I am in lockdown right now and I am not allowed to leave my 1,000 souls mountain village, unless for urgent reasons.

Now you tell me guys, is “buying a new lens” a “urgent reason“? If so, I’ll grab my car and immediately go buying that little gem… and if police stops me, I’ll just cross fingers that the officer is a Fujifilm shooter, so he’ll understand my urgency to finally get my hands on it :D
