Fujifilm GFX 50S – The Facts & The Future

Rico Pfirstinger made the point of the situation regarding the Fujifilm GFX… and gives really interesting insights. For example you will discover in his article that:

  • the sensor is similar to the one of the Hasselblad X1D (made by Sony), but Fuji tweaked it in order to improve it
  • the final version will very likely have also electronic shutter
  • Touch Screen LCD
  • Dual SD Cards UHS-II
  • Full-HD with 30 fps
  • Contrast Detection AF algorythm is already surprisingly snappy. Best with lenses with Inner Focussing
  • Bad News: only the GF32-64mmF4 R LM WR zoom lens has the inner focussing
  • shooting intervals of 700 ms
  • EVF: 3.69 megadots with a magnification of 0.85x (X-T1/2: 0.77x) with frame rate of around 60 fps
  • support for tethering with various RAW converters
  • RGB color histograms in the live view.
  • There will be a range of adapters to connect third-party lenses to the GFX 50S, including leaf shutter lenses for studio and flash work.

And there is a lot more to read at fuji-x-secrets.net… enjoy :)

  • A medium format camera for pros and mere mortals alike? Hands On with the Fuji GFX! at imaging-resource: “The GFX features a substantial handgrip with a nice contour, allowing it to fit in my hand very well. The camera felt very balanced and secure. In fact, this might be one of the few medium format cameras you can shoot one-handed if you want!.”

Fujifilm GFX 50s – Start Up Time and (mini) Autofocus Demonstration (VIDEO) :: ** UPDATE ** Native ISO100 + X-T1/GFX Side by Side

The Fujifilm GFX facebook group is very active, and those interested to know about it, make well to follow it. You’ll find the GFX tidbits there faster then I can share them here on FujiRumors.

Some of the group seem to have also access to the interesting backstage, where a selected group of people can actually hold working protoypes. One of them is Max Angeloni (riflessifotografici), and he shared on the group this video. His comment

So … the Fujifilm GFX is still under development. So even the specifications have not all been revealed. Official data can be read on the brochure. For the rest we have to wait a bit ‘ . Surely already now it appears going in the right way regarding operating speed

I’ve uploaded the video on my youtube channel, in order to make it visible to everybody, also those, who don’t have facebook and do not want to join the group. But the original content can be found here.

If you have any questions, talk directly to Max in this facebook post.

UPDATE: According to mirrorlessons here, the Fujifilm GFX should have a native ISO that starts from 100.

Time to make some order.

Fujifilm just announced the Fujifilm GFX 50S, a 50MP mirrorless Medium Format Camera. It will be launched along with 3 lenses in early 2017. Overall Fuji has 6 lenses in the raodmap.

  • Standard prime “GF63mmF2.8 R WR” (equivalent to 50mm in the 35mm format)
  • Wide-angle standard zoom “GF32-64mmF4 R LM WR” (equivalent to 25-51mm in the 35mm format)
  • Mid-telephoto macro 1:0.5 “GF120mmF4 Macro R LM OIS WR” (equivalent to 95mm in the 35mm format)
  • Fast aperture mid-telephoto “GF110mmF2 R LM WR” (equivalent to 87mm in the 35mm format)
  • Ultra wide “GF23mmF4 R LM WR” (equivalent to 18mm in the 35mm format)
  • Wide “GF45mmF2.8 R WR” (equivalent to 35mm in the 35mm format)

Fujifilm said that some lenses can resolve over 100MP. To me, this means that it is “future proof” for when the Fujifilm GFX 100S will hit the market, the 100MP successor to the current 50S version.

But let’s get back to the present.

The Fujiflm GFX 50S will cost less then $10,000 with lens and viewfinder (that’s Fuji’s “commitment”). The viewfinder is interchangeable. You can attach a tilting EVF to it.

Fuji has released the official Press Release here.

FXF Admin Andreas has made available all official product images of the GFX and lenses here.

There is a dedicated Fujifilm GFX Facebook group here.

Here are some new tidbits shared by other sites, who where present in the press conference.

And as rumored, Fujifilm also announced the new Instax Square Film :) Press Release here
