Fujifilm GFX 50s Novoflex Adapter

Two hours ago, Novoflex announced that they are working on an adpater for Fujifilm GFX 50s. The news has been shared at their official facebook page here.

Somebody said in the comments to the Novoflex facebook post: “Great!!!! I want use the Balpro on the GFX” and Novoflex answered in German “dauert nicht mehr lange” (it won’t take long anymore).

DPReview Fujifilm GFX 50s Review: “The Best Image Quality We’ve Seen to Date” (Gold Award)

DPReview just published their full Fujifilm GFX 50S review… and it get’s the gold award.

  • ISO invariant behavior above ISO 1600 gives increasing amounts of highlight recoverability
  • Contrast Detect AF is accurate and precise
  • Fujifilm color science, and color chrome effect, in larger than APS-C size
  • Direct controls provide for engaging shooting experience
  • AF joystick + touchscreen makes selecting an AF point simple, effective
  • Touchscreen flips vertically and horizontally
  • Weather-sealing and solid build quality
  • Comfortable ergonomics
  • Plenty of custom buttons
  • Dual card slots give flexibility and capacity
  • Electronic first curtain shutter mode minimizes risk of shutter shock
  • Lack of mirror avoids mirror-induced shock other MF systems bring
  • In-camera Raw processing lets you make full use of excellent JPEG engine
  • Easy-to-use Wi-Fi
  • Slow native lenses do not take full advantage of camera’s sensor size
  • Contrast Detect AF speeds can be sluggish in moderate light, often fails in dim or backlit situations
  • No high speed flash sync
  • AF-C is virtually unusable due to constant hunting
  • Moiré is visible in fine detail and patterns
  • ‘Shimmering’ and moiré in the EVF when focus is initiated
  • Unduly rolling shutter in complete (silent) E-shutter mode
  • No way to link minimum shutter speed to focal length with Auto ISO
  • No ISO 100 during video capture
  • No dedicated exp. comp. dial
  • Rear dial can be difficult to turn due to its position
  • Limited lens selection at launch

They also say:

“In principle, there’s a full frame camera that can match the Fujifilm in each of the specific areas in which it might be expected to excel: resolution, dynamic range and noise. […] However, if you aren’t pushing the camera to its limits in any of these respects, then the difference becomes negligible. The GFX’s greatest strength is its combination of all of these characteristics.

[…] And though it does offer the best combo of dynamic range, resolution and noise performance of any camera on the market, it only beats its full frame competition by a small amount.

[…] If Fujifilm truly wants to steal users away from Canon, Nikon and Sony (and they should), they’re going to have to get serious about a few things: releasing faster glass, improving AF, and packing the most modern sensor technologies that smaller formats provide.

[…] But ultimately, for successfully debuting a new system with an all-around lovely camera and the best image quality we’ve seen to date, the Fujifilm GFX 50S takes home the gold. “

Fujifilm GFX 50s for Photojournalism

When Fujifilm developed the Fujifilm GFX 50s, they had the following target in mind: professional photographers, who shoot fashion, commercials, portraits (in studio or outdoor), landscape and architecture.

But I remember a Fujifilm Manager, who said that, once they started the “GFX challanges series” and the camera was given to selected photographers for beta testing, the feedback was so good, that they started to believe the Fujifilm GFX 50s might also be quite good for other photographic genres, such as street photography… and apparently also photojournalism.

Long time FR-readers will remember, how I mentioned the first time Eric Bouvet, when he covered the war in the Ukraine with his X-T1 and X-Pro1. Well, he’s right now in Mosul, Iraq, and this time he documents everything with his Fujifilm GFX 50s.

First of all, I wish Eric all the best while documenting the war in Mosul and to have soon a safe flight back home.

And once back, we really look forward to his images, which will for sure enrich an already stunning portfolio that you can check out at his website here. We are first of all curious to see the stories he will bring home and share with us… and also to see how the Fujifilm GFX 50s performed in the arguably most challenging of all environments.

Didn’t go crazy, came out to right at 12,096×7585 though my 5K iMac I think was starting to melt processing the pano haha. Eight 1 second exposures with lots of overlap. shared by yslphotos here: Hi all. I did a comparison shot between the 645z and the Fuji GFX50s at my apartment. Same ledge, same place. Metering is the same, center weighte Variables are as follows.

  1. The Pentax 645z photo was shot with a 19mm equivalent and the Fuji at 24mm.
  2. The Pentax 645z settings were ISO100, 90s exposure, F8. Fuji was ISO 100, 30s exposure, F8. Used a light meter to figure out the exposure.
  3. The timing is 2 am vs 8 pm (about 6 hours difference) after a cloudy evening. 2014 vs 2017 (if it matters).
  4. DNG vs OOC JPEG (at this point can’t compare the RAF).

Fujifilm Manager: GFX & X-T2 Demand Higher than Expected :: Fujinon 200/2.8 or 200/2 :: Fujifilm X-E3 :: X-T2 Kaizen & More

These are busy days for journalists at the CP+ in Japan, and the next interview with Fujifilm Managers just hit the web, this time again with Mr Makoto Oishi. Some excerpts:

  • “We’ve sold more X-T2’s than we ever expected.”
  • X-T2 shipping problems due to Kumamoto earthquake. But “from this year we’re in a better position and we have enough stock.”
  • The request to control ISO on X-T2 via FN button/command dial instead of dedicated dial is something that Fujifilm “should consider” to add “maybe a firmware upgrade“
  • “GFX more demand than we expected“
  • “When we announce our new telephoto prime we also need a higher performance body”.
  • “We’re still thinking about the focal length and the aperture. There’s a big difference between a 200mm f/2.8 and a 200mm f/2 – they’re totally different.” – NOTE: a rumor of last year, February 2016, said 200mmF2.
  • X70 was successful last year and Fujifilm wants to keep small fixed lens compact cameras in their lineup – NOTE: X80 Rumor
  • X-E3: “With the strong demand for X-E series cameras we have to think seriously about the future lineup.” NOTE: Check out this X-E3 rumor
