A Closer Look at the New Fujifilm X-T2 Controls (based on Real Life Leaked Images) !

_ _ _

A few days ago, here on FujiRumors we have leaked the first real life images of the Fujifilm X-T2 (no fake, don’t worry).

Now it’s high time to take a closer look at them, and see all the changes Fujifilm made over the X-T1.

NOTE: these are not rumors, just my observations/speculations based on the (real) leaked Fujifilm X-T2 images.

  1. the dials on the X-T2 seem to be thicker compared to the X-T1
  2. addition of center-weighted metering
  3. the focus assist button of the X-T1 is gone. I guess Fuji made the rear dial clickable and it will work as focus assist, just like it is on the X-Pro2
  4. no flimsy accessory door (already improved on the X-Pro2)
  5. New tilt screen (probably flex tilt-screen like the Pentax K1)
  6. joystick
  7. The new dual SD-card door has a new opening mechanism.
  8. The last thing I’ve noticed is that the lock button on the ISO dial looks different compared to the one on the X-T1. It actually looks like if there were two buttons. Maybe this mechanism could allow us to block also the “drive dial” under the ISO dial. However, the “double button” could also be just an optical illusion created by a water drop.

Reminders:

  1. Photokina is the most important photography show in the world. At Photokina every camera manufacturer will display its very best products. Any yet, the X-T2 will NOT be announced at Photokina (late September), but in late June / early July.
  2. Fujifilm itself said the X-T2 will have 4K.

Zenit 50mm f/0.95 lens coming also for Fujifilm X-mount ?

zenius

Mirrorlessrumors spotted this news: Zenit just launched an E-mount lens, the Zenitar 50mmF0.95. However, Gavriloart says they will release it for other mirrorless systems too. Mirrorlessrumors says:

I guess MFT and X-mount camera owners can certainly expect to get this lens in their respective native mounts.

No price info for now.

Here is the Fujifilm X-T2 approx. Announcement Date! (SRP) + Some Specs shared in the Comments

X-T2 annoucement

[wysija_form id=”1″]

_ _ _

I know… many of you are impatiently waiting for X-T2 rumors.

I can understand and share your excitement. But if you take a look at the X-Pro2, you’ll already have a pretty accurate idea about the X-T2, starting from the most important aspect: Image Quality.

Sure, there are still some specs you’d like to have confirmed, like the joystick, the dual SD-card slot and, why not, maybe a touch screen. I hope that our sources will soon share the answer to these and other questions, and FR is working on this (and more) behind the scenes.

For now I can share two things with you:

1) An X-T2 specs list shared by FR-reader AceFibble in the comments of this post. About the Fuji X-T2 he says:

  • EVF refresh: it’s going to be the same or better, possibly with the Pro2 matching it after a firmware update. Bear in mind the T2’s will be larger.

  • Continuous burst: I’m told the preproduction T2s have a deeper buffer; I’d expect that to be updated on the Pro2, too.

  • AF: ditto

  • Touch screen: I’ve been told preproduction units don’t have one, and I’ve been told they do. This is the only aspect of the whole camera that my sources haven’t been consistent on. I’ve not noticed Patrick speak much about a touch screen, or anybody else, so I’m assuming there won’t be one.

  • Dual cards: obviously it will have two slots.

I’ll keep you posted on this…

2) The approximate announcement date:

A source, who was right in the past, said that the announcement is “currently” (!) set to end of June / beginning of July. The focus is on “currently”, because the better the X-Pro2 sells (and it sells really strong), the less Fujifilm feels the need to release the X-T2 quickly, since it would impact negatively on the current Fuji X-Pro2 sales.

Or maybe…

… maybe the X-T2 announcement right at the beginning of my summer holidays is Fujifilm’s personal revenge on me, since I will have to cancel my 10 days trip to Iceland (the winner of our “ultimate travel Poll“).

But my Vendetta will be merciless, dear Fuji… and it will come in form of rumors spread from my rented 58m² FR-headquarter! :-)

You can share rumors 100% anonymously using the rumor box (if you’d use a nickname, that would be great), or contact me via email (also fake email account). You can also drop me a personal message on Facebook or Twitter.

stay tuned, fellow X-shooters

“Sony’s Full Frame Mirrorless is a Fatal Mistake.” APS-C (and Fuji) is better! + The Answer of SonyAlphaRumors!

Bildschirmfoto 2016-04-05 um 11.16.59
A7rII
+ Zeiss 85mmF1.8 Batis Vs. Nikon D810 + the 85mmF1.8 Vs. Fuji X-Pro2 +XF56mmF1.2

_ _ _

There is an article at Petapixel, that is creating quite a buzz. Many FR-reader dropped me a link to it. In short: Sony’s Full Frame Mirrorless is a Mistake (and some are afraid that Fujifilm will Make The Same Mistake one day. Here some reasons:

  1. Compactness: Full Frame lenses are Big, so you lose the size advantage of mirrorless cameras. “In many cases, Sony FF mirrorless works out as being bigger than a comparable DSLR.” […] If compactness really were your priority, you would choose the Fuji 56mm f/1.2, which also allows you to shoot faster in low light.”
  2. Weight: “The next answer you will hear is that a FF mirrorless body is still lighter and the height or width might be a bit less. However, that’s partly because Sony put such a miniscule battery in their FF mirrorless bodies that you end up having to carry multiple batteries, which negate any size advantage.”
  3. In Body Image Stabilization: In this case they quote a Sigma CEO, who said: “…the diameter is very small and makes it difficult to design high quality FF lenses … it almost looks like E-mount was designed for APS-C more than FF“.
You might remember how a Fuji Manager said here, that IBIS is not good for X-mount because “The diameter of our mount was designed for the image circle without IBIS. It means the amount of light at the corners is reduced when the sensor is shifted. We could correct it digitally, but we don’t want to do it: we don’t want to compromise our image quality.” So the conclusions they make at the petapixel article is that “if you want IBIS, you have to design the mount in advance with a wider diameter, so that it doesn’t compromise corner IQ as the sensor moves around. What you don’t do is take an APS-C mount (NEX mount), turn it into a FF mount, then forcibly retrofit IBIS onto a mount never designed to take it in the first place.”
  4. Sony FF Mirrorless not good for ultra-wide angle: “Zeiss has admitted that the short flange distance of the FE mount makes it technically challenging to design ultra wide-angle lenses, because the short flange distance between the sensor and the rear element is an engineering challenge for ultra wide-angle lenses. At really short focal lengths, the light hits the corners at too steep an angle, which is exacerbated by IBIS when the sensor moves. It isn’t without reason that Sony have yet to come up with any high quality wide-angle zoom lenses for the FE mount.”

All in all it looks like APS-C (and Fujifilm) is the better way to go for the reviewer.

Before you start the discussion, you should read the response of SonyAlphaRumors. He highlights a few “errors”:

  1. Size: It’s not the “mirrorless” aspect that makes Sony FF attractive. But mirrorless is necessary for most of these innovative features to exist.
  2. Big lenses: The lenses are big because it’s high quality glass, for example the [shoplink 44295 ebay]new 85mm GM lens[/shoplink] is made for ultimate quality. […] Sartor, the author of the article, did not take into account that lenses are also designed for different image quality performances.
Let’s make a more fair comparison: Here is the Zeiss FE 35mmF2.8 Vs the XF18mmF2.0 (29mm f/3.0 FF equivalent) comparison by CameraSize (re-aligned on the LCD screen)
So SAR’s conclusion is that: “Owning a Sony A7 camera gives you an extreme flexibility: If small size is what matters you can use small APS-C or FF lenses on the very same E-mount. If extreme quality is what matters you can use the bigger FF GM lenses. Such a flexibility is yet second to none in the camera businessaligned
  3. IBIS: SonyAlphaRumors says that Sartor doesn’t bring a real actual proof to support his thesis.

The Golden Age of the Fujifilm X-T1 is over!

Sure, the X-T1 was Fuji’s most successful X-camera to date, and, along with the real best seller, Instax, it fueled the developement of the X-series. But there are two reasons, why the Fuji X-T1 hardly sells at the moment.

  1. the Fujifilm X-Pro2 release (which is selling like hot cakes)
  2. The X-T2 will come in Summer (maybe June).

That’s why Fujifilm USA extended the X-T1 deals. The various X-T1 combo discounts are still running, while almost all other cameras and lenses are back to normal price.

So here is what you can still save:
