Size Comparison: Fujifilm GFX100S vs Canon R5 vs Sony A7IV vs Nikon Z5 vs GFX50R vs GFX50S vs GFX100 vs X-T4

Here is a quick size comparison I made between the upcoming Fujifilm GFX100S and the GFX50R, Sony A7rIV and the Canon R5.

For a sensor 70% fuller than full frame, the camera looks pretty damn compact if you ask me, considering that it has IBIS.

Well, fellow FR-readers, my wife is having some contractions right now, so whenever she gives me the signal, I will grab the car and drive her to the hospital. I might be offline for a little bit, but if anyone of you wants to make more size comparisons, feel free to share it in the comments down below for the community.

In fact, FR-reader Steven already made one for us, by overlaying the Fujifilm GFX100S to the Fujifilm GFX50S and Fujifilm GFX group member Bipin overlayed the GFX100S to the original Fujifilm GFX100 and the Fujifilm GFX50R.

You guys are the best!!!

Fujifilm GFX – A Success Story

Soon the world will meet the Fujifilm GFX100S. And from all the specs leaked so far, we can easily say it will be a huge shock for the market (especially considering its price).

It will be Fuji’s 4th medium format camera after the Fujifilm GFX50S, the Fujifilm GFX50R and the Fujifilm GFX100.

Overall, Fujifilm’s medium format journey has been a huge success. The Fujifilm GFX100 sold much better then what Fujifilm predicted in its own (already optimistic) forecast, as FujiRumors told you here and Fujifilm managers confirmed later on here. The Fujifilm GFX50R grew up to be a winner thanks to a very aggressive price. But nothing would have been possible, if the first camera, the Fujifilm GFX50S, would not have been as successful as it was.

The strategy is clear, as top Fujifilm manager Toshihisa IIlda explained here: “Top full frame cameras are priced around $3,000-5,000. Fujifilm targets those customers to expand customer base“.

And with a price tag of $5,999 for a 102 megapixel GFX100S with IBIS, Fujifilm is pursuing this strategy very agressively.

So far it seems to work out well. As the manager told us here, “70-80% of GFX customers are coming from non-Fuji cameras. Most probably from full frame DSLR cameras.”

Toshihisa IIda ends up his very interesting talk about the GFX system by saying “The GFX system is really good business for Fujifilm“.

If you want to read more, including what the manager says about the Fujifilm X-H2 and the full frame attack strategy, feel free to check out this post.

Now back to us :).

Today I’d like to share a Fujifilm GFX roundup. It will probably be the last one with the GFX100, GFX50S and GFX50R at the core of it, as I am pretty sure that starting from January 27 the Fujifilm GFX100S will claim the throne and monopolize the attention.

So, there will be comparisons, bug reports, reviews, technical tests, photo reportage and a lot more.

Feel free to check it out down below.

Fujifilm Releases Firmware Updates for Fujifilm GFX100 (Pixel Shift), GFX50S and GFX50R

Fujifilm has release firmware updates for Fujifilm GFX cameras, which include the long promised pixel shift firmware for GFX100.

– New features guide: English, Français, Deutsch, Español, Italiano, Nederland, Polski, Svenska, Norsk, Dansk, Pусский, Suomi, 中文简, 中文繁體, 한국어, ภาษาไทย, Arabic

The firmware update Ver.3.00 from Ver.2.01 incorporates the following issues:

  1. Pixel Shift Multi-Shot function is added.
In the Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode, the camera takes a series of 16 RAW images and by using in-body image stabilization(IBIS), moves the image sensor to get a high-resolution and real color* image. The multiple images are then combined to create a Digital Negative (DNG) RAW file using the FUJIFILM Pixel Shift Combiner software.
    * real color : As a pixel of an image sensor has one color filter from red, green or blue, we cannot detect the real color for the pixel. We need to interpolate the other colors from the surrounding pixel data for that pixel. This is called the demosaicing process. In case of Pixel Shift Multi-Shot photography, we can receive red, green and blue data for every pixel position. This means we receive real color information when using Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode and the demosaicing process is not necessary.
  2. Ratings to images recorded in the [Jpeg + RAW] mode are applied to both Jpeg and RAW files.
  3. The phenomenon is fixed that in a multiple-flash shooting where the EF-X500 is used as a commander, flashes in some groups sometimes don’t fire correctly. Also in case the EF-X500 is used as a commander and the EF-60 as a remote flash, upgrade the camera firmware to the latest version.
  4. Accuracy of the Eye AF function for the front eye is improved
  5. Fix of minor bugs.

Leaving Phase One for Fujifilm GFX100, Hasselblad X1D II vs Fujifilm GFX50R Budget Medium Format Comparison & More

I was once on my Dolomites, when I met a professional landscape photographer, who had a rented Phase One (I posted it on my Instagram here).

We had a brief talk before my hike continued, and I just told him that he should enjoy his Phase One, as this might be one of his last trips with it. A few months from now Fujifilm might drop something that will finally allow him to actually own a 100 megapixel camera.

Now, I don’t know how the story ended. Did he get the Fujifilm GFX100? Well, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did.

For sure, some did, as you can see from the video down below, where a photographer left Phase One for Fujifilm GFX100. And for good reasons: much lighter, much more compact, much cheaper, much faster, much more versatile, still that medium format look and more.

And if the GFX100 is still a bit too high in price, for about 1/3 of the price, you get 1/2 of the megapixel with the Fujifilm GFX50R.

Fujifilm is slowly but surely building up an impressive and absolutely future proof system. A system, that, I am sure, will gain lots of followers in the years to come.

Top Selling February Gear: Fujifilm X-T4 and X100V Boom, Fujifilm GFX50R Revival, Lenses, Accessories and More

Here is the best selling gear on FujiRumors for February.

Top Accessories

It looks like people ar getting ready for the Fujifilm X-T4 by grabbing the brand new batteries and the dual charger. I did the same, pre-ordered an additional battery and will very likely get the charger, too. Sure, you can charge all batteries on the X-T4 and battery grip through the UBS-C port in the camera, but having an external charging option is always useful.

Top Fujifilm Series Cameras

The Fujifilm X-T4 was definitely the hot camera of February, followed closely by the Fujifilm X100V. A great deal on the Fujifilm X-T3 assures decent sales also for the X-T3.

Curiosity:

  • X100V silver sold better than black
  • X-T4 black sold better than silver

X-T4: BHphoto / AmazonUS / Adorama / FocusCamera
X100V

X-T3: BHphoto / AmazonUS / Adorama / Focuscamera

Top Fujinon X Lenses

The constant excellent ranking for the Fujicron f/2 lenses shows how important the right balance between size and price is for Fujifilm users.

Top Fujifilm GFX Gear

A $1,000 rebate on GFX50R and a $500 rebate on GF50/3.5 pushed my personal favorite medium format dream combo on the top of the list.

Top X Mount Third Party Lenses

Top Software

  1. Luminar 4
  2. Capture One Pro
  3. Adobe Creative Cloud

HOT New Fujifilm Deals: Save Up to $1,000 on GFX50R, Fujinon GF50mm f/3.5 and Fujifilm X-T3 Sell-Out for Fujifilm X-T4 Arrival

I tell you this: I am lucky I don’t live in USA, because otherwise I could hardly resist to the mega offer on the one combo in the GFX medium format system, that is totally tempting me. In fact, both, the Fujifilm GFX 50R and the Fujinon GF50mm f/3.5 are now heavily discounted.

Take note: the Fujinon GF 50mm f/3.5 is 50% off!!!!

Also, the big Fujifilm X-T3 sell-out started, and you now can get the X-T3 body or kit with a $200 discount plus a free vertical X-T3 grip (worth $329). This adds up to a $529 saving!

And in addition to that, there is a nice deal also on the Fujifilm X-T30.

Does current IBIS fit in Fujifilm X-T4? And GFX100 IBIS in GFX50R / 50S

Fujifilm IBIS

Back in March 2018, I have used Fujifilm technical X-H1 IBIS scetches and put them into the Fujfiilm X-T2. See the article here.

The result was the image you see above.

It’s my pleasure to see that over one year later, the topic is coming up again (better late than never), so I am glad to share it again with you.

The Fujfilm X-T4, if it keeps the size of the X-T3 and X-T2, will have a hard time to fit IBIS into its body. But Fujifilm has repeated many times, that they are working to make IBIS smaller.

And since we talk IBIS…

I had a personal curiosity to see how the Fujifilm GFX100 IBIS unit fits in the Fujifilm GFX 50S and Fujifilm GFX 50R.

So I took the IBIS unit displayed at the Fujifilm GFX100 live stream event, and mounted it on the Fujifilm GFX50R/S.

As you can see below, the IBIS unit is too big for both cameras, but not by a large margin. So there is hope that, with further development, the next generation IBIS will be small enough to make it fit also in the GFX R and GFX S line of cameras.
