Fujifilm GFX100

What you see here today, are the first images of the Fujifilm GFX100 backside, shared at gao3366 instagram back on the 15th of October 2018.

But since nobody reported about it, it’s once again time for FujiRumors to break the news, thanks to a FR-reader, who sent me the link yesterday (I asked gao3366 for permission to share his images).

So here is what we can see:

The Fujifilm GFX100 has 2 joysticks (no surprise), no D-Pad and a 3-way tilt screen. And looking at the buttons, I guess nobody will complain they are to small and hard to press ;). More images down below.

Of course this is just a prototype and things might change a bit until its release later this year.

As we have shown in our size comparison here, the Fujifilm GFX100 (which has a medium format sensor and IBIS) is not bigger than full frame cameras with integrated grip, such as the Nikon D5 and the Canon 1Dx MK II.

Fujifilm GFX100 Has Two Joysticks

Fujifilm GFX100

When I was at Photokina, Fujifilm was very attentive not to display the Fujifilm GFX100S from the backside. And also the images they published on the web so far don’t show the backside of the camera.

However, I took a close look at the images we have so far, and I noticed that there are two joysticks at the back of the camera (see top image). Other cameras with integrated battery grip, such as the Nikon D5 and the Canon 1Dx MK II, also have two joysticks. And also Fuji’s own vertical grips for X series cameras offer an additional joystick.

Down below more leaked Fujifilm GFX100 specs… definitely more exciting than today’s one ;).

Recently we also compared the size of the Fujifilm GFX100 with several other cameras, including the Sony A7III and many more. Check out the comparisons here.

Fujifilm GFX100 Gets Rid of (Marked) Dials, a Good Idea? VOTE NOW

Fujifilm GFX100 Dials

At photokina 2018, Fujifilm displayed the first mock-up of the Fujifilm GFX100 Megapixel camera, which will be announced in the first half of 2019.

And it could not pass unnoticed to the FR-community, that the Fujifilm GFX100S got rid of the shutter dial, leaving only one unmarked and customizable dedicated dial on the left side.

This change has let to some heated (but civil) discussions at our Fujifilm GFX group here, with the community split between those, who applaude this change, and others, who think Fujifilm should have kept their classic dial layout.

Here are some of the comments from this post:

  • Bigger screen – less dials
  • Bigger back panel – less clunky top plate
  • Its the reason I use Fuji, without I might as well just switch to a different brand
  • Oh please get rid of those useless dials
  • I do like the iso dial. It shortens the iso changing from three steps to one. (I work in the dark, so have to press the lcd light on before pressing the iso button, then adjusting the dial to the right iso)
  • Top dials need to stay
  • I love my dials, but if they made some small buttons with iso/af/wb/etc, I would be able to live with one wheel and no dials
  • Dials are much easier to operate then digging into 2 or 3 level menues

So what do you think? Is it a good move to minimize the amount of dedicated dials and offer only one unmarked dial, or would you prefer to keep the current ergonomics of the Fujifilm GFX 50S?

And wouldn’t that big top LCD be nice, if it was a touch screen? ;)

Fujifilm Manager Says Fujifilm GFX100 has Less Noise than GFX50, Less than 10 fps, OIS/IBIS Combo, X-T3 AF Algorithm and More

Fujiflm GFX100

Fujifilm Manager Mr.Oishi was at the press event for the Fujifilm GFX system in Thailand and also chatted with the media.

The Thai youtube channel กล้องกล้วยกล้วย published 3 videos of the event, but only 2 are of interest for us (see them at the bottom of the article).

And since I don’t want you to lose as much time as I did by listening to Thai questions, the translations into English and then again the Thai translation, I decided to sum up the key points of both videos for you here on FujiRumors.

This and more for my beloved community on FujiRumors ;).

RUMOR: Fujifilm GFX 100 with Pixel Shift Multishot

Fujifilm GFX 100

Photokina 2018 is history and comprehensively covered for you here on Fujirumors, first with the breaking rumors, then with the coverage directly from Photokina.

But just like Fujifilm’s new slogan, also FujiRumors “never stops“.

So for me, it’s already time to look into the future in order to keep up with all breaking and exclusive rumors.

After having successfully told you almost a year ago (in December 2017) that the Fujifilm GFX 100S will come with IBIS, we now have more details for you.

According to our sources, the Fujifilm GFX 100S will have:

  • pixel shift multishot

Pixel shift multishot can be used with static subject. The IBIS moves the sensor into different positions and takes several images that it then combines into a single high resolution image (just in case 100 MP is not high resolution enough already ;) ).

Currently the Fujifilm X-H1 can’t do pixel shift, as the special X-Trans array might make pixel shift more complicated compared to the convential Bayer sensor. But this does not mean, that Fujifilm won’t figure it out at some point, how to bring pixel shift also to X-Trans.

The Fujifilm GFX 100, though, will feature a new Bayer sensor, hence pixel shift might be easier to achieve.

In addition to the new rumored specs today, a Fujifilm manager told us here that the GFX 100S will have:

The Fujifilm GFX 100 will surely be beast of a camera.

FujiRumors at Photokina: About Japanese Fujifilm Managers, Touch and Try the X-T3 and GFX 50R, Tapping 33 Articles in 3 days

Jonas Rask Live Talk at Photokina 2018

FujiRumors @ Photokina 2018

I am not that kind of guy, who breaks into a place bypassing security checks…

I broke into photokina bypassing security checks 1 day ahead of the official opening, because I could not wait to deliver you the first images side by side of the XF33mmF1.0, XF16-80mmF4 and XF16mmF2.9 and first hands on video of the Fujifilm GFX 50R.

But let’s talk about it later and start with the Fujifilm managers.

SUPER FULL FRAME Fujifilm GFX 50R First Look and GF 50mmF3.5, 100-200mm F5.6, 45-100mm F4 Images

SUPER FULL FRAME

One thing I liked form the Fujifilm GFX 50R and GFX 100 live stream announcement, is that Fujifilm asked what full frame means.

Full” indicates that some kind of limit is reached. So what is the Fujifilm GFX system? Well, then Fuji calls it a “super full frame” ;)

And just for fun I will tell you this: in German we often refer to “full frame” as “Kleinbild“, which means “small frame“, because it’s smaller than… guess what?… you got it, medium format!

So what now, is full frame actually a small frame?

In order to end the confusion, I will tell you this: every system is “full frame”. Fuji’s APS-C system is conceived and designed for APS-C, and so is their MF system. M43 is build around the M43 sensor and so forth.

Whatever you hold in your hands right now, from an iPhone to Phase One, it’s “full frame”.
