Fujifilm X-A7 Discontinued after Only 11 Months: Fujifilm X-A8 Coming or X-A7 Failure?

The Fujifilm X-A7 is actually a lovely little entry level camera launched just almost a year ago and hit the market about 11 months ago.

But now it is already marked as discontinued at BHphoto here, it’s on low stock or backordered at Adorama here and it’s unavailable also at AmazonUS here (where you might find some via third party only) and FocusCamera.

For a long time, the Fujifilm X-A line was an absolute best seller in Asia, especially in Thailand. In fact, pushed by the X-A line, Fujifilm was able to outsell all other camera brands (Canon included) and reach an incredible 50% mirrorless market share.

Don’t believe me, but check out the official Fuji-data leaked by FujiRumors here and other Fujifilm manager statements listed below.

Now the options are two:

  1. the camera is going to be replaced already and we will soon get a Fujifilm X-A8
  2. the X-A line lost its magic appeal in Thailand and sold terribly bad

Looking at the Fujifilm X-A line release timeline, we can see that there was a successor about ever 16 to 18 months. If Fujifilm would stick with that, then the Fujifilm X-A8 should come in early 2021. So in my opinion, it’s a bit too early to discontinue the X-A7, but maybe Fujifilm doesn’t think so, or they are really going to replace the X-A7 earlier than expected.

More likely in my opinion is that the X-A line just lost its magic in Asia, especially in Thailand, and that it fell victim to the rise of smartphones and to COVID-19.

Fujifilm X-A line success story:

  • Fujifilm managers said in March 2018 to dpreivew: “In Thailand, our market share for mirrorless is over 40%.”
  • Fuji Guys Billy said in February 2017, that “Fujifilm is Nr.1 brand in Thailand“. He does not specify if DSLR is included, but it seems from the video he is including DSLR cameras, too.
  • in 2016 a source told me that “Fujifilm was the best-selling MILC in 2015, outselling all the Canon interchangeable lens cameras (DSLR and those EOS-M lines) combined
  • a Manager said to Spanish website in 2016, that ““there is a little known fact: in Thailand, for example, X-A series outsells Canon!”

Fujifilm is Reaching 50% Mirrorless Camera Market Share and Dominates Sony, Canon & Co… in Narnia Thailand

Fujifilm Domination

There is one country, where like no other, Fujifilm mirrorless cameras are selling like hot cakes and dominate all other brands: Narnia Thailand!

It might seem a phantasy tale, but it’s true.

Today I can share with you the precise numbers of the growth (see below), as well as Fujifilm Thailand’s new goal: 50% market share of the entire compact (they probably mean mirrorless*) interchangeable lens camera market (see above)!

50% market share of the entire mirrorless market might sound foolish, but if you look at the detailed data down below, you will see that they are already not too far away from that goal.

We know that in Thailand the X-A line (and very likely also the X-T100 line) sell incredibly well, 2 lines that in Europe and USA don’t have much appeal (maybe the Fujifilm X-T100 could find some bigger fellowship over here… it certainly deserves one).

Capture One 11.1 Adds Fujifilm X-H1 Support and More!

Capture One 11.1 has just been released and adds support for Fujifilm X-H1 and overall improvements.

If you are interested, we recently shared a blog post about switching from Lightroom to Capture One for Fujifilm X-Trans files, and what Capture One does better than Lightroom.

Fujifilm X-H1: BHphoto, AmazonUS, Adorama, Focuscamera

Capture One 10% Off

You can get Capture One 11 with 10% discount at Capture One here, by using coupon code “AMBFR”.

Capture One & Fujifilm

In 2017, Capture One has made huge steps forward when it comes to Fujifilm X-Trans files support by adding Fujifilm compressed RAW support, OpenCL and more (we reported about it here).

Tethering is not supported, but if you own an X-T2, X-Pro2 or X-T1, an easy and quick workaround is to use Fujifilm’s free tethering software X Acquire.

C1 still does not offer film simulation profiles, but there is a great homebrew at the fuji-x-forum. However, a Capture One manager said in 2017 here, that “there is no reason why we can’t offer Fuji’s film simulations profiles in future“.

The Fujifilm GFX 50S is not supported.

Switching from Lightroom to Capture One for Fujifilm X-Trans Files: More Flexibility, More Tools and More Details

Capture One Vs. Lightroom

Ming Cai (a photographer and youtuber who has way less subscribers than he deserves, so go and subscribe!) is now in the process of switching Capture One Pro for his Fujifilm X-Trans files editing.

He shared the first video of what will probably become a series of videos about Capture One. So make sure to check out his channel and see the first video at Ming Cai Youtube.

He really likes C1 and he seems to prefer it over Lightroom, since it offers features and tools that Lightroom does not have.

  • Capture One Pro renders details better than Lightroom. You can get same sharpness with Lightroom, but it requires extra processing steps
  • Capture One Pro gives more control over images (more tools)
  • Capture One Pro allows to add contrast without adding saturation
  • Capture One Pro has a much more advanced color editing tool

C1 is slow, when it comes to add new cameras to their supported list. They just recently added Fujifilm X-E3 support and there is no Fujifilm X-H1 support yet (but it will come).

FujiRumors Notes
As the Fuji manager said to BHphoto (video below), the X-H1 has a shorter blackout time (100msec of blackout-time), when used in combination with electronic first curtain shutter. He says blackout is so short that it feels like shooting a DSLR. Fuji Guys confirm our rumor about face detection in 4K. Eterna film simulation looks really good, and as we rumored here, it will come via firmware to X-T2 (and maybe more cameras). However, for stills, Classic Chrome remains my favorite.

New Images of Fujinon XC 15-45 and Fujifilm X-A20 Leaked – UPDATE: New X-A5 Images

More images of the Fujinon XC 15-45 and X-A20 leaked at nokishita.

Down below again the main specs of XC 15-45, X-A5 and X-A20 as well as more images

The size of the X-A10 is identical to the one of the X-A20, so we can make a nice comparison between the XC16-50 and XC15-45. But it’s no surprise, because here on FR we already showed you weeks ago here the exact size of the lens, and the latest leak just confirms it ;)

The Fujinon XC15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ OIS will be bigger than Sony’s Power Zoom solution, the Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6, but I guess that Fujifilm tried to find the sweet spot between compact size and image quality.

Not a pancake zoom…. more of a muffin zoom ;)

And remember that Fujifilm outsourced the development of the X-A line, because they needed R&D money for the Fujifilm GFX. We reported about it here.

WARNING: Stop Using Faulty AC-5VF Wall Plug Power Adapter for Fujifilm Digital Cameras. Risk of Electric Shock

Fujifilm just released an important notice (and they specify “important”), regarding their AC-5VF Wall Plug Power Adapter.

The power adapter can crack or break, and “if it separates while still connected to an electric outlet, there is a possibility to deliver an electric shock.”

Some of these chargers came bundled with Fujifilm cameras, such as Fujifilm X-A3 and X-A10.

Fujifilm released all the details on how to identify faulty chargers in this press release and will change them free of charge.
