National Geographic Declares Fujifilm X-T2 Best Overall Compact Travel Camera 2017… Top 10 Ranking Includes X-T20 and X100F

The end of 2017 is approaching, so get ready for many “Top gear of the year” and similar articles appearing on the web. So let’s start, this time with National Geographic, who listed their Top 10 compact cameras for travels.

This year, there are 3 Fuji cameras in the ranking, the Fujifilm X-T2, the X100F and the X-T20 (in 2015 Nat Geo awarded 2 Fuji cameras, the X-T1 and X100T, as reported here).

Read the whole article “Top 10 Compact Cameras for Travelers” at nationalgeographic here and click on the product link in the list below for specs & price:

About the X-T2 they write:

The X-T2 has everything one would want in a professional DSLR in a APS-C mirrorless camera. The combination of quality manual dials to control settings, speed of image processing, the amazing line lenses and the build quality make this camera such a pleasure to use that many professionals now use this camera as their main system. You simply cannot go wrong with the X-T2 as a high end travel camera; it’s an all-star, all-around team player that just won’t quit or let you down, no matter where your travels take you.”

However, in the features list of the X-T2 and X-T20 they mention the “five-axis image stabilization“. Now, Fujifilm has arguably the best optical lens image stabilization system on the market, but so far, IBIS is something that will come… in a not so distant future ;) .

Anyway, do you agree with this list?

Sure, the Fujifilm X-T2 has weather sealing, so definitely a nice to have feature on travels. On the other hand, nothing can beat the simplicity and lightness of travelling with the X100F. And coupled with the WCL-X100 and TCL-X100, the X100F is a wonderful mini-system with leaf shutter and build-in ND-filter, that makes it so much more versatile than “just” for street photography.

But let’s see what you think about it :)

Rumor Chatter: Tamron Will Make Fujifilm X Mount lenses (via SAR)

Tamron Mirrorless Offerings on AmazonUS

Fuji X Mount Tamron

According to SonyAlphaRumors, Tamron will make Fuji X Mount lenses in future. SAR writes:

A SAR reader reported to me the unofficial talk he collected on the Digital Splash show. While this is just unofficial chatter it’s still interesting to know what managers are spilling out on those kind of events. […]

tamron have now ceased all future A mount lens development and instead are shifting focus to E mount and fuji mount, the price of A mount for some reason has shot up in recent times which paired with the shrinking A mount market share has led them the call it a day, all recent releases will be fullfilled up untill a certain point which wasn’t specified.

In the past, we had huge discussion here on FujiRumors about Sigma and Tamron Fuji X mount support. So here is a little recap:

Tamron

Back in November 2015, we shared the rumor that Tamron has “currently” no plans to release X-mount lenses. But the source also added that Tamron said they “may produce X-mount lenses in future“.

That was a cautios opening by Tamron, and if SAR is right (and they are usually a very accurate rumor site), maybe time will soon come, that Tamron will join the X side of life :) .

Let’s hope so… and you guys can start dreaming and let us know which Tamron lens you would like for your Fuji X camera.

Sigma

Back in October 2015, our sources told us that Sigma has no plans to make X-mount lenses, because the Fuji X market is too small and Sigma thinks Fujifilm made a big mistake by not adopting the M/43 mount. You can read the whole story here.

But I think that the real reason (and problem for Sigma) is that there is a lot of high quality Fujinon glass out there, that covers already many of our photographic needs, and Sigma is afraid they would end up like the Zeiss.

Fujinon Vs. Rest of the World

Yes, it’s hard to compete with Fujinon glass.

Zeiss tried to enter the Fuji X market with their Zeiss Touit Fuji X-mount Trinity, but completely failed. People simply prefered the cheaper and yet optically on par (or even superior) Fujinon X glass.

Sure, it’s tough to beat Fujinon glass, but we X-shooters are definitely open to other options, and willing to spend our money in third party glass, as long as the equation value for money is right.

Samyang, for example, found quite a big fellowship amongst X-shooters with lenses like the Samyang 8mm fisheye and their probably most successful X-mount lens, the Samyang 12mmF2, convinces with a very low price and good IQ.

Also the Mitakon 35/0.95 ver.II is falling in the hands of more and more Fujifilm X-Shooters. Jonas Rask wrote a review about it. FR-reader yukosteel compared the Mitakon 35/0.95 ver.I with the Fujinon XF35/1.4 here.

I’m sure that, with the right offering, the right price and the right quality, Sigma and Tamron could sell quite well in the X-shooter community.

Fuji X-shooters simply love good glass, no matter which brand it is from.

So, c’mon, Sigma and Tamron, be brave, release some of your best glass in X-mount… and take our money :) .

New Zhongyi Mitakon 35mmF0.95 Mark II

Zhongyi Mitakon 35mmF0.95 Mark II

Zhongyi Mitakon 35mmF0.95 Mark II

With all the buzz surrounding the X-T2, I missed this news, so I catch up now: there is an updated version to the original Zhongyi Mitakon 35mmF0.95, the Zhongyi Mitakon 35mmF0.95 Mark II. It promises “drastic improvement of sharpness and better control of chromatic abberations

You can find the first lenses at eBay US here, eBay Germany here, eBay China here and eBay Honk Kong here.

FXF Member Yukosteel compared the original Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 Vs. the Fujinon XF35mm f/1.4 in this Post.

Press Release Here

Zhongyi Optics (ZY Optics) has released an improved version of their first f/0.95 lens, Zhongyi Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 Mark II. The mark II verison features a drastic improvement of sharpness, better control of chromatic abberations and much compact size. The new version comes with a Fuji X / Sony E / EOS-M mount and is able to cover the image circle of APS-C sized sensors.

Zhongyi Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 Mark II is a ultra-fast prime lens which provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of around 53mm in APS-C cameras. A maximum aperture of f/0.95 makes it extremely convenient to shoot at a low light conditions without flash. The new optical design incorporates a 11 elements in 8 groups structure, including 1pc of Extra-low disperson elements, 2 pcs of Extra-high Refractive Index elements and 3pcs of High Refractive Index elements. This structure effectively improved the image resolution by 30% compared to the previous version from corners to corners. This also controls the chromatic abberations very well and deliver excellent image sharpness even at f/0.95.

The new Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 is light and compact. The total weight is reduced from 680g to 460g, making it an ideal companion for the compact mirrorless cameras. Manual focus design and a click-less, silent aperture ring promote smooth handling and are especially well-suited to video applications. The lens is built in metallic enclosure with additional protective process and finest finishing, which gives extra durability and aesthetic.

Fuji’s X-Trans Sensor :: Lightroom Vs. Iridient, Capture One & More!

Which RAW converter is the best for X-Trans Files? Well, this is a questions that needs to be investigated continuously, since every update can introduce improvements or new features. There will never be a final answer, but what is the state of art?

Adrian Evans (aka Stealthy Ninja – Interview here) wrote a comprehensive XF23mmF2 WR Review investigated this question and compared the following RAW converters: Lightroom CC 2015.6 Vs. Photo Ninja 64 1.3.4 Vs. Iridient Developer 3.1 Vs. RAW Therapee 4.2.1148 Vs. Capture One Pro 9.2 Vs. Silkypix Developer Studio Pro 7.0.6.0 VS. Jpeg from the camera

I invite you to go through the test (with lots of comparison samples) here at aevansphoto.

Here on FujiRumors I’ll just share Adrian’s final raking:

  1. Iridient (21 points)
  2. Lightroom (16 points)
  3. Photo Ninja (13 points)
  4. RAW Therapee (12 points)
  5. Jpeg (10 points)
  6. Silky Pix and Capture One (both 6 points)

9-yr old Fuji X-shooter Regina photographs Full Wedding + images for ThinkTank Advert with Fujifilm X-T1 & X-E1

Trenton said it in his entertaining and interesting interview here: “Teach your children photography, and they will never have money for drugs”.

With the saying above in mind, we can say that Pro Photographer Kevin Wyllie (ksgphotography.co.uk) did a great job with Regina, his 9 year old daughter:

Regina first picked up one of my compact cameras at the age of just 3 and started asking questions about taking photos and setting cameras pretty soon afterwards. She then progressed onto trying my DSLRs (before I moved over to the Fujifilm X-series cameras), as both my girls have been brought up around cameras, so she began going into my bags, lifting a camera out and asking me to show her how to use it.

Reginas passion for photography is big, and her skills improve quickly, so that at the age of 7, she already shoots everything on full-manual control!

Since then she has been on fashion & portrait shoots […] and at the age of just 7 shoots everything on full-manual control, like her Dad does. That Trash the Dress shoot recently resulted in an email from ThinkTank Photo as they wanted to use her photo for a new Facebook advert because I was wearing one of their Skin Set belt systems in the pic.

And finally, with just 9 years and on request of the bride & grooms (who are also close family friends of the photographer), she was “booked” along with his daddy to shoot an entire wedding.

Her equipment? A Fujifilm X-T1 + XF35mmF1.4 and Fuji X-E1 + XF18mmF2. She put all the gear in her new [shoplink 45160 ebay]ThinkTank LilyDeanne Lucido camera bag[/shoplink] and was ready to go :-).

Once back home, it was time to process the RAW files:

As she’s still learning how to edit using Lightroom, I’ll admit that I did guide her a wee bit through the editing process, but these screenshots will, hopefully, show that there really wasn’t much done to them except a wee bit of warming up, some tweaks to the highlight & shadow areas and a slight reduction in vibrance & saturation.

The results (and the whole story) can be checked out at ksgphotography. I’ll just share a few pictures of Regina In Action and some of her Work (all with expressed permission of Regina’s father).

Well done, Regina… and keep it up. Fujifilm should make you the youngest X-photographer ever :-) .

CP+ :: Fujifilm Presents 2.0x Teleconverter and says 1 or 2 more lenses (not in roadmap now) will still come this year!

2.0TV

So the rumor shared last month here was true (once again thanks to FR sources)… Fujifilm will launch a 2.0x Teleconverter.

Check out the video below of ValueTechTV (min 3:40)

He says that:

  • this is not a mock-up, but a working sample of the 2.0x Teleconverter
  • there is no release date for it, but the journalist thinks it could still come this year (the rumor says it will come before Photokina)
  • will work with lenses like the 100-400

The journalist says that Fujilm told him that there will be still 1 or 2 lenses this year (his guess is photokina), but didn’t share any more details. He is evidently speaking of lenses not included in the roadmap.

nice spot and thanks for the link to Fuji X Forum Member Quincy… yep, that guy, who made me drop my coffee :)
