Fujifilm GFX100S and GFX100 Get Blackmagic RAW and New Features Guide for Firmware 1.20/4.10

Earlier today Fujifilm dropped a bunch of firmware updates, some more substantial, some just bug fixes. You can see the full list here.

The biggest changes come for the Fujifilm GFX100S and Fujifilm GFX100, which get Blackmagic RAW support.

This required Fujifilm to update the Owner’s manuals for those two cameras.

But there are firmware updates also for Fujifilm X-T4, X-T3, X-H1, X-T30, X-E4, X-Pro3, X100V, Fujifilm GFX50S and Fujifilm GFX50R. Make sure to check out all the details and download the latest firmware at our dedicated article here.

And even though I am not into video with my Fujifilm GFX100S, I will update my camera anyway, because who knows what Fujifilm fixed with that “fix of minor bugs” phrase. Sometimes they fix major bugs actually.

Don’t ask me why they do it. It’s a great news if Fujifilm fixes a major bug. No need to hide it behind a generic “minor bug fix” phrase.

Fujicast is back with new episode #197 and #198. Also again on the podcast, Fujifilm UK manager Andreas Georghiades.

Not so surprising, as Japanese Fujifilm managers confirmed it already a few times: there will be a Fujifilm X-H2 one day. It’s probably Fuji’s way to facepalm publicy when they read the fake rumor the X-H line had been canceled ;).

Voigtländer Nokton 35mm F1.2 Development Story and First Review

Fujifilm and Cosina managers have met for a discussion about the development of the new Voigtländer Nokton 35mm F1.2.

The video has been shared on youtube, but is only in Japanese. However, the Japanese website dclife reports about its content here, so you can let it go through google tanslate here. There is not much to discover, but here are some main ponts.

  • Cosina started development one year ago
  • they wanted to make a lens that is faster than the 35mmF1.4, hence 35mmF1.2
  • compatible with electronic contacts, so it supports software correction such as various aberrations and only “X-Pro3” is available for parallax correction

In short: it’s soft at wider apertures, distortion is well controlled, good uniform bokeh and 3D effect.

Voigtländer Nokton 35mmF1.2: Electronic Contacts, Full Specs, Press Release and Official Sneak Peek

We’ve shared hands on images of the new Voigtländer Nokton 35mm f/1.2 for Fujifilm X mount earlier today.

Now we spotted an official teaser to this lens at the Voigtländer website. It’s in German, so I’ll share first the google translated version and then the original one in German.

Animal Autofocus Already Available on Fujifilm Cameras, just not X/GFX! A Kaizen Request to Fujifilm!

These are crazy firmware days, great joys thanks to massive new firmware and some worries due to faulty firmware.

So let’s talk firmware today.

One of the autofocus features where Sony and Canon are running away to the competition is “animal autofocus“.

And while it is probably not a feature that most of us would massively use, it would be definitely still nice to have.

Now, the FujiRumors community often asked me if Fujifilm plans to ever such a feature in future.

Well, let me say this first.

Among all camera manufacturers, Fujifilm was actually the very first company to offer something like that, with the Fujifilm FinePix F80EXR.

As you can read in the product description here:

For those who enjoy the company of four-legged friends, the F80EXR has Pet Detection, allowing users the ability to detect up to 10 faces of dogs or cats and automatically optimize the focus. The F80EXR is programmed to recognize 57% of the Fédération Cyno Logique Internationale (FCI) Registered Dogs, 80% of the Top 20 Dogs in the American Kennel Club (AKC) Ranking and 60% of The Cat Fancier’s Association (CFA) breeds. Pet Detection works by matching various dog or cat data of facial parts with patterns to detect the dog or cat being photographed.

So, considering that Fujifilm already had a similar feature, I am confident that they will offer that in future also on X and GFX series cameras, maybe extended to birds and other animals. Sure, it’s not a rumor, but looking at Fuji’s history makes me confident this is going to happen in future.
