Fujifilm X-T20 and Fujifilm Instax Square SQ10 Win EISA AWARDS…. but No Awards for Fujifilm GFX 50s and Fujinon Glass

Share

The EISA AWARDS 2017/2018 are out.

The Fujifilm X-T20 has been declared the best consumer CSC and the Instax Square SQ10 is the best instant camera of the year. The prize for the overall best camera goes to the Sony A9.

I know what you guys think, and I tend to agree: the EISA award is here to make every company happy.

But at least, compared to the past editions, EISA dropped some non-sense categories like the “Best Connected Camera” and they don’t make anymore the ridiculous distinction between “professional“, “advanced” and “premium” cameras.

It’s a good thing that now there are less categories, so EISA is definitely following the right direction… but there should be even less categories, to give even more prestige to the winners.

One thing I don’t get is why the Sony A6500 has been declared the best “prosumer” CSC and the X-T20 the best “consumer” CSC. Is the X-T20 less Pro than the A6500?

Another thing to notice: it’s the first time that no Fujinon lens wins the award.

Also, the Fujifilm GFX system has been completely ignored by EISA. So the only camera (the GFX 50s) that beats all other EISA awards winners in terms of image quality and the exquisite Fujinon glass like the GF 63, GF 110, GF 120, GF 23 and GF32-64 don’t get awarded.

Anyway, here is what EISA writes about the two Fujifilm products that won the award this year (for all photography awards click here).

Fujifilm X-T20 (via EISA here):

The Fujifilm X-T20 is a compact, mirrorless consumer camera that produces sharp, clean images and 4K video quality at a competitive price. At the heart of the camera is its 24.3 million pixel X-Trans CMOS III sensor and X-Processor Pro, which are jointly responsible for the extraordinary image quality. Despite its comparatively affordable cost the X-T20 uses the same high quality sensor and processor as the highly regarded X-T2 and X-Pro2. The touchscreen operation and custom AF-C setting are also big pluses. Finally the X-T20’s sharp and highly detailed 4K video recording makes this camera a great all-rounder.

Fujifilm Instax Square SQ10 (via EISA here):

The Instax SQUARE SQ10 is the first hybrid instant camera that lets you take and print square photos (62x62mm). You can brighten, darken or add vignettes to your images or choose from 10 creative filters to apply, before you decide to print them. The bright LCD viewfinder makes it easy to create and edit your pictures, which are recorded in the internal memory or on a microSD card, so you can share them with your friends and family.

Major Fujifilm X-Pro2 Kaizen Firmware Update Will Add 4K Video and More

Share

There Will Be Kaizen

Heay gsiys I AMSMAZING casnT BNelive…

* * Dutch vegetable break * *

Sorry, I was too excited to type… but now I’m more calm… so let me try again to write it down for you ;)

Dear Fujifilm Shooters,

some of you might remember, when back in 2013, the godfather of the Fujifilm X-series, Mr. Kawahara, said in this interview of 2013 that they are committed to improve their cameras via firmware updates because “we want you to use our camera longer and longer in your life.” (Note: Kawahara left Fujifilm in 2016, as reported here).

And indeed, we have seen many huge Kaizen firmware updates for many cameras in these years.

The FW updates were so big, that Fujifilm had to re-write entire camera manuals several times and Rico had to republish updated versions of his Fuji Tips and Tricks ebooks. And (unless you are an X100S/T) owner, you had the pleasure to feel what it means to “download a complete new camera… for free“.

Well… today I’m very excited to tell you, that there will be Kaizen love again… also for the Fujifilm X-Pro2!

Fujifilm X-Pro2: Level Up

I hear from trusted sources, that Fujifilm is working on a major firmware update for the Fujifilm X-Pro2, which will, among the others, give X-Pro2 owners 4K video and more.

Here on FujiRumors, the community asked for 4K on X-Pro2 multiple times, in dedicated articles and comments, and finally also Fuji Guy Billy joined Fujirumors critics on February 2017, when he said here he is also “fighting with Japan” to implement 4K on X-Pro2.

Well… it seemed all this pressure helped ;)

So, dear X-Pro2 shooters… be patient, and you will get your Kaizen Love.

Oh… and feel free to share the joy with all of us at the Fujifilm X-Pro user group on facebook. We also have an X-T User Group, if you are interested.

Time To Dream

4K is sure. But what else would you like? Tethering? And maybe the ability to adjust ISO via command dial? Anything else? Well, then say it here in the comments… you know those guys at the Fujifilm headquarter read us and X-ray your comments :)

*** You’ve Got The Power ***

Can Fujifilm ignore a unique community on the world-wide web that is able to drop 11,000 votes in a single poll within 2 days? Nope, they simply can’t :)

And if there is a reason why Fujifilm’s most known top manager, Toshihisa Iida, “loves” FujiRumors, then it’s because you guys provide Fujifilm an umatched amount of (free) feedback every single day in your comment and poll votes.

Your diligent (and massive) participation allowed Fujirumors to become the privileged channel that connects Fujifilm to its customers… this is more that I could have ever hoped for this blog! Thanks guys :)

Now, to keep our feet well set on the ground, I will also say that I’m aware we can’t always influence Fujifilm’s decision…

… however, sometimes, we can :)

In fact, it was your feedback and negative poll results, that killed the monochrome X-Pro1 and your positive pressure that revived the X-E3 plans and made Fujifilm say herewe are aware of the many X-E3 request”.  The feedback you give in polls makes it to internal Fujifilm meetings with the Press and, as said before, even Fujifilm top manager Toshihisa Iida “Loves” FujiRumors.

So guys, never stop it and keep up sharing your daily feedback to Fujifilm :)

have a GREAT day,

Fujifilm Publishes 1st Quarter Financial Results (FY2018/3) – Strong Fujifilm GFX 50s Sales and Healthy Imaging Solutions

Share

Fujifilm just publisheed the 1st quarter financial results (FY2018/3)… and there are good news (again) for Fujifilm’s imaging solution:

In the Imaging Solutions segment, sales increased largely due to a significant rise in electronic imaging sales combined with strong sales in other businesses

In the photo imaging business, sales were strong, especially in Europe and United States, of instax SQUARE SQ10, launched in May 2017, and instax films as well as other instax series instant photo systems. Wall Decor and other value-added printing businesses also enjoyed solid sales.

In the electronic imaging business , revenue increased on strong sales of FUJIFILM GFX 50S, a medium format mirrorless digital camera equippe d with a large sized sensor which was launched in February 2017, and the X Series mirrorless digital cameras, including the FUJIFILM X-T20, as well as the accompanying interchangeable lenses

In the optical device business, sales of various industrial-use lenses advanced steadily. Three new 4K broadcast camera lenses we re launched from April 2017

In another passage, they mention also the Fujifilm X100F:

In the electronic imaging business, revenue increased on strong sales in FUJIFILM GFX 50S, a medium format mirrorless digital camera equipped with a large sized sensor which was launched in February 2017, and the X Series of mirrorless digital cameras, such as the FUJIFILM X-T20 and FUJIFILM X100F as well as their accompanying interchangeable lenses.

And what about the accounting irregularities we reported about it here? The reports today do mention the irregularities and the measurments they took to fix it and prevent them to happen in future. Fuji Xerox messed it up quite a bit in New Zeland/Australia (around 450 million loss)… but don’t worry, Fujifilm is not doomed ;).
