Share

As we reported here, Fujifilm will release a Firmware update for Fujifilm X-T2, X-T20 and GFX on November 30, 2017.

Regarding the X-T2, Fujifilm officially announced 4 new features/improvements:

  1. New AF tracking algorithm for moving subject
  2. Support “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO
  3. Improve radio flash controller usability
  4. Support for backup/restore of camera settings via FUJIFILM X Acquire

But I’m pleased to inform that, although Fujifilm officially does not mention it, I hear there will be more! And to be more precise the X-T2 will also get:

  • highlight overexposure blinkies
  • RGB color histogram

Now this is a serious X-T2 Kaizen update :) Well done Fuji.

Sainsonic Kamlan 50mm F1.1 + Meike 85mm F2.8 Macro Reviews… and Discount on Samyang 100mmF2.8 1:1 Macro for Fuji!

Beyond Fujinon X

There currently about 100 native Fuji X mount lenses out there. And if you don’t mind manual focussing, then actually some of those can be very affordable alternatives to Fujinon X glass. Today I will list 2 of them, the fast Sainsonic Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 and the Meike 85mm Macro lens.

Kamlan 50mm F1.1

alikgriffin reviewed the Kamlan 50mm F1.1. He says amongst the others:

  • great contrast, beautiful bokeh and very nice color saturation
  • best image quality when shooting f1.1, stay at least 4-5 feet away from your subject to get past any of the spherical aberrations
  • really nice lens for black and white photography and street photography
  • Chromatic aberrations are pretty severe
  • fairly soft and smeary along the edges and corners
  • $150 bucks !

Another fast and good alternative for Fuji X lovers is the Mitakon 35mm Mk II 0.95.

Meike 85mm F2.8 Macro

Back in September, Meike announced the 86mmF2.8 1:1.5 Macro lens, an affordable manual focus macro lens and alternative to Fujifilm’s XF60mm and XF80mm. But will it conquire Fuji X shooters heart? It all depends on its performance, and we have a review about it made by Damian Brown on Youtube

  • feels solid, metal
  • sharp images
  • good contrast
  • distortion is negligable
  • he highly recommends this lens

Another great macro option is the Samyang/Rokinon 100mm F2.8 1:1 macro lens (currently disocunted at BHphoto and $100 cheaper than at Adorama).

Fujifilm X-T2, X-T20 and GFX 50S Firmware Update on Thursday, November 30

Share

Fujifilm will update the Fujifilm X-T2, X-T20 and GFX 50s on November 30 (Thursday).

List of improvements:

Fujifilm Netherlands recently said here that the Fujifilm X-T20 firmware update has been postponed. But I guess Fujifilm was able to fix all issues and is ready to release it on time. You see, even Fujifilm itself can share wrong rumors now and then ;) .

FujiRumors Recommends

  1. Update your camera in any case, even if you do not need the features/improvements that come with this specific firmware update. Fujifilm often implements “undocumented fixes“, which can be as small as a typo in the menu, but also more significant bug fixes and improvements.
  2. To be 100% safe, though, do not update your camera on the same day you need your camera for a paid assignment. In very rare cases, firmware updates can introduce new bugs. If you need your camera on a paid job, wait a few days, check back fujirumors.com to see if there are some bugs with the new firmware in the following days, and if there are no reports, update your camera. But with that said, in 99% of the cases a new firmware will only improve things, and not make them worst. So at the end, always update.
