Fujinon XF 80mm Macro “Sharpest Lens I Have Ever Used in My Entire Life… but Too Sharp For Portraits”

Share

Fujinon XF80mmF2.8 Macro

It’s not the first time, that we hear “complaints” about the XF80mmF2.8 Macro being too sharp for portraits. We reported about it already here.

Now also ZedProMedia shares the same opinion. I know, some say it’s better have an ultra-sharp lens, and eventually soften the image in post production. But another aspect that makes the lens not ideal for portraits, is that the bokeh tends to be swirly and have a cat eye form wide open at F2.8, which resembles the character of some old vintage lenses.

Here are a few considerations ZedProMedia made (full video at ZedProMedia Youtube):

  • Sharpest lens I have ever used in my entire life
  • Too sharp for portraits
  • Swirly, cat eye looking bokeh at F2.8
  • At 2.8 tons of vignetting, fixable in post. Less vignetting stopped down. No vignetting at F6.4
  • Insanely sharp in corners, also at F2.8
  • Fast AF, but not as fast as XF50-140
  • At close ups not super-accurate AF. Manual focus better
  • Probably the nicest Macro lens I have ever used

Fujifilm GFX 50S

Full Frame or Medium Format?

What should Fujifilm offer along with its APS-C line up?

Well, I’m glad Fujifilm answered: we should offer the best image quality of any mirrorless camera ever… hence Medium Format was the obvious choice.

In todays’ Roundup we will tell you how the Fujifilm GFX 50s has been declared Top Camera of 2017 and much more, including many fantastic images shared by fellow Fujifilm GFX shooters at our Fujifilm GFX facebook group.

And don’t worry, the Fujifilm GFX is still on my radar… and as you can see in this image, I’m working restlessly to get the money to buy it ;) .

And just in case you missed it, we have a dedicated Fujifilm GFX facebook page for 100% GFX coverage only.

Switching to Fujifilm in 2018? Here are the Top 2 Lenses To Start With, Recommended by FR-readers – POLLS

TOP FUJINON LENSES

Hi all…

Today I need your help :)

Why? Because one of the most asked questions I get via email is more or less like this:

Hey Patrick, I am switching to Fujifilm. Which lenses do you recommend to start with?”

or

Hey Patrick, next month I will travel to destination XY. Which lenses should I bring with me?”

I always have a hard time to answer these, because I tend to recommend lenses that I like and prefer for my way of shooting. And of course different lenses are good for different types of photography. And different people prefer different lenses.

So I had an idea.

I can escape the responsibility of making all alone lens recommendation in future, by launching a few polls here on FujiRumors, so that all of you guys can vote your own two favorite lenses.

So, if I get the question again via email in future, I will still be happy to give my humble advice, but I can also link to this post, so that people can have a larger feedback, than just my own.

Fujifilm X-E3 Roundup

So Christmas is over, and it was the first one with my new Fujifilm X-E3.  So far I am in love with it, especially if used with the XF27mm, it’s the perfect walkaround, street and travel camera.

I have only two issues, one of them I already reported abou it here.

  • The focus stick blocks – video here
  • Sometimes my X-E3 tells me that no SD card is inserted, although there is one. In that case, I have to remove SD card, put it in again, and then shoot again. The SD card issue happened also when I shot on tripod… and God knows why the X-E3 has still no centered tripod mount. So I had to unscrew everything, take out SD-card, put it in again, mount it again on tripod, and shoot.

For these two reasons, my local store told me they will replace my camera with a new one, as soon as they get one from Fujifilm after holidays.

I think I was just unlucky… the next sample will work perfectly fine. But of course I will keep you updated.

In the meantime, enjoy this huge roundup dedicated to the lovely Fujifilm X-E3.

But before that, feel free to join our Fujifilm X-E facebook group.

Fujifilm X100F Most Rented Fujifilm Camera at Lensrentals (#5) Followed by Fujifilm GFX 50S (#19)

Share

Back in October, we reported how Fujinon lenses saw a 96% increase of rentals at lensrentals.com.

Well, they also published the results for camera rentals.

In their “Most Popular New Photo & Video Gear of 2017” list, we can find the Fujifilm X100F ranked Nr.5 and the Fujifilm GFX 50S ranked Nr.19.

It’s a little step forward compared to 2016, where we had the Fujifilm X-Pro2 ranked Nr.13 and Fujifilm X-T2 Nr.19.

Back to the Fujifilm X100F…

This camera was an unexpected success, and Fujifilm had a hard time to ship all orders, as they admitted here.

Surprisingly, though, there wasn’t much buzz around the Fujifilm X100F this year, overshadowed by the almighty Fujifilm GFX 50S and other popular Fujifilm cameras, like the X-T2.

However, here on FujiRumors, over the entire year 2017, I always dedicated regular and specific roundups to the Fujifilm X100F, because this camera simply deserves it. It’s a compact little powerhouse, and I still have to find the one X-shooters, who regrets to have bought it.

For all the 2017 rankings, you can check out lensrentals.com
