Fujifilm GFX 50R: Concepts of the Most Affordable Digital Medium Format Camera Ever!

It’s no secret anymore that Fujifilm is about to launch the Fujifilm GFX 50R, a much cheaper and rangefinder alike version of the Fujifilm GFX 50S.

Since we shared the first rumor back in December and the latest rumor just last week, our terrific Fujifilm GFX facebook group members not only started dreaming about it, but also designed some concepts.

One of them is Mario C. who made 2 Fujifilm GFX 50R mock-ups (and GFX 100R) I will share in this article. He writes:

“Two ideas for a future Fujifilm GRX. The 100RD rangefinder or the 100XD viewfinder. Both with large LCD touch screen and DIGITAL LCD Dials. Price $2995. Would you like any of these cameras to become a reality? Which one? The RD or the XD?Digital LCD dials are fully programmable. Rotate to change the value. Push and rotate to change the control. Push once to go to a favorite value, push twice to go to another favorite… Etc.”

And remember, tomorrow, April 12, there will be a NON STOP LIVE BLOGGING here on FujiRumors, covering the launch of the Fujinon GF250mmF4 (& more). Stay tuned… and be ready to be blown away by its image quality ;)

Note: a mate of mine asked what Helicon Focus did, which RAW processor I used, and why I wasn’t clear about anything in the above video. I’m new to YouTube. Lots to learn. Many thanks for the constructive criticism. The RAW processors I used were Lightroom and XTransformer. Helicon Focus and Affinity Photo handledthe compositing.

Before we get started, Patrick has been kind enough to allow me to publish the following articles on Fuji Rumors.

I’m a still life and event professional based near Tokyo Japan. I specialise in jewellery, audio and camera gear, and ho humming the latest Star Wars movies. Some of my work can be seen at the following links:

Prior to purchasing the GFX I was using a Hasselblad digital back duo (CFV-50 and CFV-50c) attached to a Linhof M679cs via a sliding back. Great camera, stability like Gibraltar, amazing results. The backs were great, but accurately focusing a digital back on a slider or in live view was slow, fraught with computer-back-and-forthing, and in the end not worth it. The GFX’s EVF, LCD, and wireless tethering, as sub-optimal as they can be, are giant usability steps up from the system I previously used.

Fujifilm X100F Firmware Details Leaked… and Don’t Panic Regarding the Fujifilm X-T20 Firmware Update

2 days ago here on FujiRumors we broke the news, that 6 Fujifilm cameras will get a firmware update soon. Included in our list was also the Fujifilm X100F.

The day after, nokishita leaked the details of the updates, but the Fujifilm X100F was not included in the list.

Just now, though, nokishita updated the list with the X100F firmware. Here are the details of the update

X100F Firmware Ver.2.10 -due April, 2018
Enlarged and customizable indicators or information
The upgrade allows users to enlarge indicators and information in the viewfinder and/or LCD monitor. This upgrade will also enable users to customize the location of where the information is shown on the display.

The X100F firmware can be considered minor, especially compared to the other upcoming massive updates. But Fujifilm notoriously never covers the X100 line with lots of Kaizen love, even though it was the original X100 to start all the “Kaizen-buzz” back in the days.

But with the growing number of camera models, Fujifilm had to make decisions which cameras they can keep up covering with Kaizen love, and which one not… and the X100 line had to be sacrificed.

If you want to see what the firmware update details of the Fujifilm GFX 50S, X-E3, X-T2, X-Pro2 and X-H1, check out this post.

Also, I notice many X-T20 owners now panic, because the X-T20 is not mentioned in the list. But keep in mind these are only announcements of upcoming firmware updates. And the one for the X-T20 has already been announced (and it’s massive!). That’s why it is not included in the list.

The X-T20 firmware will come, according to Fujifilm, in early April… so it can’t be that long anymore ;)

Canon Sponsors “Next Top Model” TV Show and Fujifilm GFX 50S Shoots It :)

Canon Sponsors, Fuji GFX Shoots

Just a little weekend curiosity :)

You might remember how Canon recently used part of a Fujifilm image to promote their own cameras.

Today we have another example of marketing gone probably not exactly the way Canon hoped… and it’s spotted by Ulf from ukphotography (thanks).

Canon is this years sponsor of the big German TV show “Germany’s next Top Model“.

The sponsorship’s officially declared goal is to promote the Canon EOS M100, a camera that can be considered a competitor to the Fujifilm X-A series, which is extremely successful amongst young women (especially in Asia).

Since this is a “Top Model TV show“, there are some celebrity photographers taking pictures of the aspiring models. Ulf told me that you basically see only Canon cameras in the show, and rarely a Hasselblad (no surprise, given the money Canon pumps into the show). [UPDATE: German FR-readers say that also Nikon appeared in the show, but logo gets blurred]

But well, there is one photographer, Marcus Schäfer (websiteexhibitions), who entered the show with the best camera for this kind of job, the medium format Fujifilm GFX 50S :).

The “FUJIFILM” logo is taped (probably in order not to annoy Canon?), but we know it’s that beast.

One more curiosity: the show is moderated by former Top Model Heidi Klum, who is the ex-wife of superstar Seal Samuel, who is a GFX shooter and member of our Fujifilm GFX facebook group :) .

And remember, a HUGE LIVE BLOGGING will be here on FujiRumors for the GF250mmF4 announcement on April 12.

Light it Up

Official Fujifilm X Photographer Piet Van den Eynde released an ebook called ‘Light It Up. Techniques for Dramatic Off-Camera Flash’ (20% discount with code “fujirumors20” until April 8th only)

It’s an 185 page PDF ebook that caters both to the beginner and the more advanced user.

Although it’s not Fuji-specific, over 50% of the images in the book are shot with Fujifilm cameras (all images have EXIF info beneath them) and as a result it gives a nice overview of what you can do with those cameras.

There’s even a special paragraph on why Piet loves to use the X100 series for flash photography and there’s also a cool case study about how he stitched an environmental portrait panorama of 20000 pixels wide with the GFX and flash.

It’s a mix of lighting technique, lighting physics, set-up-shots and gear advice. He mentions lots of flash systems but you will notice that Godox is his favorite combo.
