Mostly, the current conception is: if you use a camera with IBIS on a gimbal, turn IBIS off to get the best results.

We discussed this more in detail in our article, where Panasonic explains us this, and gives more insights on what else is not so good with IBIS.

However, a FR-reader passed me an official Fujifilm slide, that has not been shared anywhere else so far.

According to the official Fujifilm slide, in order to get the best stabilized result, you have to use the Fujifilm X-H1 IBIS combined with a gimbal.

“Combination of IBIS and Stabilizer gives high quality movie. IBIS prevents higher frequency vibration. Stabilizer prevents lower frequency vibration.”

And as FR-reader Christopher noticed, check out the video at 2:20 in this fujifilm-x article. It shows a comparison of the X-H1 mounted on a gimbal with IBIS ON and IBIS OFF, with the IBIS ON version giving even better results. Today’s slide explains more detailed why the results are better.

I thought this info might be useful for those of you guys, who use the Fujifilm X-H1 for videos on a gimbal. According to Fujifilm, you better keep the IBIS turned on to get the best results. I already shared this news in our wonderful Fujifilm X-H User Group.

The third edition of the Meyer-Optik-Görlitz Nocturnus 50 mm f0.95, which is known for its exceptional light intensity comes in a new design and features now mounts for Sony-E, Fuji-X and Leica-M. The lens is currently available through a pre-sale campaign on the manufacturer’s website.

Meyer-Optik has just announced the launch of the Nocturnus III 50 f0.95. The super-fast manual-focus lens is optimized for use with full-frame sensors, but also works with APS-C cameras. The third edition comes in a new design and now features mounts for Sony-E, Fuji-X and Leica M. Within the next 14 days, the lens is offered in a pre-order sale, where it is available for less than 60% of its future MSRP.

Like its predecessor, the new Nocturnus comes with a focal length of 50 mm and an aperture range from f0.95 to f11. Thus, the lens features a lot of versatility both when shooting in available light conditions and in terms of depth-of-field. Its 15 aperture blades with anti-reflective coating, make the new Nocturnus III 50 f0.95 a unique tool to create a pleasant bokeh with circular highlights whilst creating great sharpness in the focused areas.

The new Nocturnus has a minimum focus distance of 50 cm and weighs 790 grams.

The new mechanical design of the Nocturnus III makes this lens also an interesting option for videography: Manual focus control and the step less aperture ring operate almost silently.

Introduction

There are a number of videos and manuals around which cover the Fujifilm autofocus system and settings in detail. The big problem isn’t the things they cover, it’s what they don’t cover. Guides often talk about how to configure and setup your camera, but with this guide, we’ll focus on the hidden things, how to use it to get the best outcomes.

I’m not going to try to cover the basic configurations here, for example, what AF-C or AF-S is. If you want to know how to use the basic settings, I’d recommend the Fujifilm autofocus site or this video from Fujifilm. Now please bare in mind, this is only my experience with the Fujifilm autofocus system, and more specifically my experience with the Fujifilm X-T2 and X-E3 systems. This isn’t an official Fujifilm guide, but in the absence of such a guide, I’m giving it a go.
