The Complete Fujifilm X Series Guide Updated: Now with Fujinon XF16-80mm f/4 and More

I always wondered when Fujifilm would update its complete X series guide. The last update was made back in September 2018 here.

Well, that finally happened!

Fujifilm updated it recently, and the updated guide includes all products released from October 2018 to now, including the brand new Fujinon XF16-80mm f/4.

You can access and download the complete Fujifilm X series guide here.

Look guys, if you really like it to be the first to know Fujifilm stuff, then you have to follow FujiRumors ;).

And here are a few ways to do it best:

Three Fujifilm Cameras Registered, But When Will they Come? Time Span Between Fujifilm X/GFX Registrations and Announcement

Fujifilm has recently registered three cameras:

The inevitable question that pops up in the comments when this happens, is how long the time span is between registration of a camera and its announcement.

To answer that, I looked back to the past time span between registrations and announcements, and here is what we see:

  • 1 month = 4 cameras (X-T2, X-E3, X-T100, X-T30)
  • 2 months = 3 cameras (X-T20, X100F, XF10)
  • 3 months = 3 cameras (X-T3, GFX50R, GFX100)
  • 6 months = 1 camera (X-H1)

It’s clear that we usually get a camera between 1 and 3 months after registration (with exception of X-H1, which needed 6 months).

Clearly this would indicate of 3 cameras coming within November, although the X-H1 shows that a longer wait is not impossible, hence an announcement within February 2020 (6 months).

What could these cameras be?

The contact form on FujiRumors is open for any hint (thanks), and the comments for the wildest speculations :).

3½ Reasons Why Fujifilm is Waiting so Long to Release the Fujifilm X100V

Fujifilm X100V

When I recently posted the huge Fujifilm camera release timeline, I made one single error, that thankfully you guys corrected in the comments.

I calculated, that the Fujifilm X100 series got a refresh every 2 years, which is absolutely correct. But then, based on that refresh cycle, I said that the X100V should come two years after the X100F (which was announced in January 2017).

But this would mean the Fujifilm X100V should have hit the market in January 2019, which evidently it has not. Our sources say it will come at some point in 2020.

Now, not to justify my error, but, well, I run FujiRumors 365 days a year non stop, and I wrote that particular article in a bar, drinking beer, while waiting for the rain to stop and finally go out shooting again with my X-E3, as you can see here. Well, at this point I’ll just say is that it rained a lot that day ;)

I apologize if I confused you guys, so I felt I need to address this in a dedicated article.

But also, this is a good opportunity to quickly discuss, why Fujifilm is waiting so long, to finally give us a successor to the Fujifilm X100F.

Down below 3½ reasons for that:

Modular Fujifilm GFX Drawings Appear on Weibo

Technical drawings of the modular Fujifilm GFX have been circulating on the web since a while now, for example here at weibo.

The modular GFX is a concept first displayed at the Fujifilm X summit in Dubai and we talked about it extensively here.

Zack Arias also shared a hands on video with a prototype.

Down below are all the images shared at weibo.

Release Timeline for Fujifilm X-T4, X-H2, X-T40, X-Pro3, X100V, X-E4, X-T200 and X-A6 Based on Fuji’s Previous Camera Releases

Fujifilm Timeline

Almost 1 year ago, I published a release timeline of Fujifilm cameras, and, based on that timeline, I made guesses on when a successor could come.

Turns out that, so far, our timeline was pretty accurate. In fact, based on Fuji’s release schedule, we predicted:

  • Prediction: X-T30 in February 2019 – Reality: January 2019 – Accuracy: 1 month off
  • Prediction: X-Pro3 in January 202o – Reality: around October 2019 – Accuracy: about 3 months off

Now I thought it’s time to update our timeline, because:

  • some cameras have already been announced (X-T30) and others will be announced soon (X-Pro3)
  • this time we include cameras not listed last time (X-T200 and X-A6)

Down below you find the updated release timeline for:

The X-T4/X-H2 Grain of Salt Corner

Keep in mind that this camera replacement timeline is NOT based ON RUMORS, but on past camera release schedule of Fujifilm.

Hence, take it with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to Fujifilm X-H2 and Fujifilm X-T4 release. The timing between X-H1 and X-T3 has proven to be very damaging for X-H1 sales, so there might be some changes here.

In fact, according to our sources, the Fujifilm X-H2 might not even come in 2020! But I want to wait for more details and confirmations, before changing the below timeline.

Speaking of X-H2 and X-T4, the FujiRumors community has voted on various Fujifilm X-H2 and X-T4 release timing options. Check out the poll results here (I voted for the option currently on the 3rd position).

Top 3 Selling Cameras, Lenses, Software and Accessories for July on FujiRumors

Back in June we had a huge surprise: the Fujifilm GFX100 was selling better than the Fujifilm X-T3.

In fact my sources say pre-orders triple Fujifilm’s forecast and Fujifilm managers officially said here pre-orders are “more than twice” what they expected

So which cameras and lenses take the top spot in terms of sales in July? Check it out below.

Of course, the rankings below are representative only for the FujiRumors community and not for overall sales.

TOP 3 SELLING…

Top Accessories

I bought a SanDisk 128GB Ultra Dual Drive USB Type-C myself during Amazon Prime, and so far I am extremely happy with it. Now I have 1 device that I can use for my MacBook Pro (USB-C) and the ancient computers at my school (USB-3). Both connectors slide completely into the stick, making the whole USB stick very compact at no risk to damage the connectors.

The best thing of all, even after Amazon Prime, there is still a huge discount on the SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive.

The best-selling SD-Card was the Fujifilm recommended Lexar 2000x UHS-II.

Last but not least, the Textured Rubber Non Slip Grip Tape, a useful (and cheap) accessory to add more grip to your smartphone, laptop and camera (especially the GFX100, as you can see here).

Top X Series Cameras

The most surprising fact for me here, is that we find the Fujifilm X-E3 on the third position instead of the Fujifilm X-H1, which in my opinion currently represents the best value for money deal in the entire Fujifilm universe.

Some Fujifilm X-E3 combos are marked as discontinued and we already reported that the X-E3 outsells all its predecessors. This gives good hopes for the X-E line to be kept alive (it was not always like this).

The current $100 discount on X-E3 might help to boost sales even more.

Top XF Lenses

I predict this: the Fujinon XF16-80 will become one of Fujifilm’s best-selling lenses.

I don’t know why Fujifilm does not offer it as a kit lens (hence with a discount if bundled with a camera), but if at some point Fujifilm will decide to offer it as a kit lens, then I think this will boost sales for that lens even more.

For the rest, it seems people’s hunger for 50mm equivalent focal length (including mine) is insatiable.

Top X Mount Third Party Lenses

The Samyang 12mm f/2 enjoyed good sales during Amazon Prime.

The Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 AF is arguably the most interesting third-party X mount lens on the market right now. And you know what? There are 3 more Viltrox AF lenses for Fujifilm X mount coming. Check out all details here.

The Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 has been kicked out of the ranking by a couple of 7Artisans lenses, with the new 60mm f/2.8 macro on top.

Top GFX Gear

Fujifilm GFX 5oS sales are struggling, despite the lower price tag. People seem to prefer either the even cheaper Fujifilm GFX 50R (which is still $500 off) or the brand new Fujifilm GFX 100.

Top G Mount Lenses

The compact Fujinon GF 50mm f/3.5 seems to be a winner for Fujifilm. It is marked as top seller at BHphoto.

The brand new Laowa 17mm f/4 has kicked Fuji’s own wide option, the Fujinon GF23mm f/4, out of the ranking.

Top Software

  1. Luminar 4
  2. Capture One Pro 12 (save 50%)
  3. Adobe Creative Cloud

A great launch deal and the fake sky replacement feature make Luminar 4 the by far best-selling software in July, dethroning Capture One Pro 12, which dominated basically the entire year 2019.

Fujifilm APS-C Crop is Cr&p and These Images Prove Only Full Frame Delivers – #photosfujicanttake

Tuscany: Look at that terrible Dynamic Range // Dolomites: what a pain those horrible colors // Woman + Kid: that 56/1.2 rendering just destroyed every portrait

Fuji Crop is Crap

How often have we heard influcencers says that Fujifilm is not a professional system, because it is not full frame.

How often have super talented photographers, who hide behind anonymous forum accounts with no portfolio, said that Fujifilm APS-C is not good enough to keep up with their immense talent and creativity.

How often have professional photo reviewers given scientific proof that Fujifilm APS-C can hardly beat an iPhone in terms of image quality.

How often have we heard about how impossible X-Trans files are to edit.

How often have we heard youtubers complaining about the slow manual controls on Fuji cameras, making it impossible to take pictures, because you have to spend half an hour turning dials before pressing the shutter.

And today I will prove, that they were all right!

In the spirit of one of my favorite Fuji blogs, photosfujiscanttake.com, I will list below a series of images, so horrible and painful to the eyes due to the limitations of the APS-C sensor, that you will immediately agree with forum experts, that APS-C is not for Pros.

If you are brave enough, check out the images below.

There is everything wrong, the colors, the dynamic range, the noise, the moments.

Thanks to all members of our gigantic Fujifilm X-T group for providing us these samples.

DJI confirms Ronin-S will get Fujifilm X Support via Firmware Update

Recently DJI launched the DJI Ronin-SC with partial support for Fujifilm cameras (full news here).

Once the news hit the web, some FR-readers wondered what happened to the firmware update, that DJI promised to deliver for the DJI Ronin-S to finally support Fujifilm cameras.

As you can see above, DJI confirmed on Twitter, that that engineers are still working on it.
