Fujifilm X-T3 has No New Film Simulation (for Now)

Fujifilm X-T3

Back in mid-July, I shared a rumor by a new source, that the Fujifilm X-T3 will have a new film simulation.

I told you that it was not confirmed by trusted sources, so you should take it with a gran of salt.

Well, now trusted sources told me, that there is no new film simulation on the Fujifilm X-T3 [ETERNA will obviously be included, but that’s an “old” film simulation, introduced with X-H1].

In the past we have seen Fujifilm cameras getting new film simulations via firmware updates, so maybe at some point in the future also the X-T3 will get a new one (the new processor certainly allows it). But for now, it hear there is none.

P.S.: To all those copycat sites, who copy and paste the rumored X-T3 specs list from FujiRumors (without giving credits to FR), please edit the list, because you copied also our wrong rumors ;). But it’s nice to know that you trust me blindly ?

UPDATE – Fujinon XF 16-80mm F4 (and XF16/2.8?) Shipping in November 2018 says Authorized Fujifilm Seller – To be announced with Fujifilm X-T3?

Fujinon XF16-80mmF4 and XF16mmF2.8

UPDATE: Our sources told us that Cameranu is wrong and that the lenses will come in 2019 as written on the roadmap – full report here

A few days ago Cameranu (an important Dutch store and also an authorized Fujifilm dealer) listed the XF16-80mmF4 WR, the XF33mmF1.0 and XF16mmF2.8 at their store.

Officially, Fujifilm’s latest roadmap says the XF16-80mm F4 and XF16mm F2.8 will come in 2019, whereas the XF33/1 in 2020.

But there could be a pleasing surprise :)

After reading the article on FujiRumors, one of our readers contacted Cameranu and asked them more details about the lenses.

Well, the store answered, and the reader send me the screenshot of the stores’ email. It’s in Dutch, and here is what it says in short:

“The expected shipping date for the XF16-80mmF4 is November

It is not super clear, but it seems that also the XF16mmF2.8 could ship this year.

Cameranu expects to get more details about these lens pretty soon.

If this information is accurate, then I guess we can expect the lenses (except for the XF33/1) to be annonced along with the Fujifilm X-T3 very soon.

I guess Camernu does not make up just some stuff to fool their customers. If they say this, then I am sure it is because their Fujifilm rep told them so.

RUMOR: SIGMA Will Make FUJIFILM X Mount lenses if X series Camera Sales Increase by 20%

Sigma Lenses for Fujifilm

Back in 2014, when Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki was asked if they will ever make lenses for the X system, the CEO answered:

mirrorless cameras are very promising future products. We always plan to expand our product line for mirrorless cameras. If possible, we would like to support as many systems as possible. But our engineering resources are limited.”

At time the X shooter community started to have a bit hope, but sadly those nice Sigma ART lenses never came for the Fujifilm system.

But why?

Well, according to a new source (thanks), Sigma will consider making lenses for Fujifilm X system if they see about a 20% increase in Fujifilm bodies shipping. Take this rumor with a pinch of salt for now.

A 20% camera shipping increase is a very difficult goal to achieve, especially since competition is growing strong in the mirrorless market. But Fujifilm has a pretty affordable powerhorse coming soon: the Fujifilm X-T3. Let’s hope it will help to get closer to those 20% increase.

So while at this point it is difficult for me to remain optimisitc about Sigma supporting the X system in future, the current workaround is use one of the smart adapters for the Fujifilm X / GFX systems, which will allow you to use Sigma lenses with autofocus on your Fujifilm camera.

You can for example use the Fringer Smart AF adapter, with since firmware 2.20 supports the Sigma 50/1.4 ART, Sigma 85/1.4 ART, Sigma 17-50/2.8 OS, Sigma 50-100/1.8 ART, Sigma 24/1.4 ART, Sigma 135/1.8 ART, Sigma 100-400 and more.
