Fuji X-T1 firmware 4.20 faulty. Fix will come end of January. You can now “downgrade” to 4.21!

notice

The X-T1 firmware 4.20 had a bug. Fuji will fix it end of January. In the meantime they have prepared Firmware 4.21, whose functions are same as the previous version 4.10

We have found a malfunction in the firmware ver.4.20 launched on December 17 2015, which rarely causes freeze when shooting in AF-C mode. So we will suspend the disclosure of this firmware right away.

We apologize for your inconvenience which this may cause.

We will post an upgraded firmware around the end of January 2016 to solve it.
As a tentative solution for customers who have upgraded their cameras to firmware ver.4.20, we have prepared the new firmware version of 4.21 whose functions are same as the previous version of 4.10. Please update your cameras to ver.4.21 to avoid the malfunction.”

Fuji X100T: “Cult! Timeless Design & Controls” :: dpreview’s Best Travel Compact Camera 2015

cult

X100T (save $200): AmazonUS / BHphoto / Adorama / Pictureline

Recently the National Geographic delcared the X100T and X-T1 among the 10 best Cameras for Travels you can get in 2015.

And today it’s time for dpreview to declare the X100T the Best Compact Camera for Travels (along with the Panasonic FZ1000, Sony RX100 IV, Panasonic DMC-LX100 and the Olympus Tough TG-4).

About the X100T they say:

Few cameras in recent history have attracted as much of a cult following as Fujifilm’s X100 series.

They’re the photographer’s darling – not just a good-looking camera, but a beautifully effective machine. The X100T is small and light, and won’t burden a weary traveler, and its low-profile lends itself to street shooting. If you don’t mind zooming with your feet, its 35mm F2 equivalent lens and 16MP X-Trans APS-C sensor will serve you well.

In addition to its travel-friendly size, the X100T offers a hybrid viewfinder with optical and digital views. That’s especially handy when the sun is high in the sky and the 1.04M-dot 3″ LCD becomes harder to see. […]

With obviously classic design cues, the X100T’s controls and handling are timeless. Though it doesn’t offer the cutting-edge modern features of its newer peers, it won’t go out of style anytime soon.

National Geographic declares X-T1 and X100T to the Top 10 best Travel cameras!

X-T1 + 55-200: National Geographic Quality image taken by X-shooter Milan Miki Denkovski and shared at the FR facebook photostream here

_ _ _

The X-series cameras are great for travelling. So no surprise, that the Travel Photo Section at the FXF is the most popular one.

But which are the Top 10 cameras for Travelers according to the National Geographic?

Well, their list starts with the Fujifilm X-T1, because:

Classy, retro styling in the form of a 1970s film SLR. But instead of optics, the camera uses a pentaprism, which holds one of the best electronic viewfinders yet.

This camera is quick—its autofocus is quick, its image review is quick, and it shoots tons of pictures in a row without hanging up.

The small size of the camera and lenses means that, even if you decide to carry the whole system with you on your travels, your bag will be less than half the size of a standard DSLR’s.

Pro Tip: Fujifilm cameras have very nice film-emulation modes for their in-camera JPEGS. Try shooting in JPEG + RAW with the camera set to Classic Chrome. These JPEGs have a wonderful color palette that looks like old Kodachrome slides. If you don’t like the color, you always have the RAW file to process however you like.

Later in the list, they mention also the Fujifilm X100T, because:

If you aren’t interested in carrying a full camera kit when you travel but still want to exercise your artistic side, go simple. Try this non-interchangeable-lens camera that boasts a 35mm-equivalent field of view and a hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder. This retro-looking camera boasts Fujifilm’s X-Trans CMOS sensor array. It’s a radically different way of separating colors, leading to small-sensor image quality that rivals its full-frame competitors. Only having a single field of view might seem too simple, but limited choice can often lead to better pictures. It’s nice not to be burdened with carrying too many lenses and accessories.

Pro Tip: I have always gone very basic, one camera and one lens. . —David Alan Harvey, Magnum photo collective member and longtime National Geographic photographer.

The other cameras in the list are: Canon EOS M3 :: Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II :: Sony Alpha a7R II  :: Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8
 :: Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 :: Sony Alpha a6000 :: Olympus TG-3 :: Sony DSC-RX10
