comparisons
Fuji X-E2: [shopcountry 17992]

– NOISE: Yes, it’s again, Full Frame vs APS-C, or [shoplink 19559]Sony A7[/shoplink] vs [shoplink 17992]X-E2[/shoplink]. It may be unfair, but many reviewes are tempted to compare the performance of the 2 hot cameras of the moment. So, how does both cameras handle RAW-noise at the various ISO settings? Jordans says:

“First, the Fuji ISO ratings are somewhat overstated.  In examining some test images, it appears that at the same shutter speed and aperture setting, the listed ISOs are roughly 1/3 stop apart.  So, to set a fair fight here, I shot the A7 with a 1/3 stop lower ISO than the Fuji and set the shutter speed and aperture of each camera to be identical.

One area where Fuji’s X-Trans sensor does excel is in color noise suppression. […], the Fuji does a little better job at controlling color noise.

there is no real difference in noise performance between the two cameras for most any setting. […] The fact that the Fuji X-E2 can hold its own in the noise department with a brand new, very high-end full frame sensor is frankly remarkable.  Fuji’s done a great job with their X-series cameras and it shows here.” See the comparison here at admiringlight.

– AF-SPEED: Fuji X-E2 vs Sony A7r AF-speed comparison in this youtube video.

– X-E2 vs Mark 5D III ([shoplink 13457]specs&price[/shoplink]) at andrewvanbeek here: “While I’m not including any side by side comparison shots from the 5D Mark III and the Fuji X-E2, suffice to say that I have not found a single instance where the quality of the X-E2 was such that I could really tell the difference between the 2 cameras.”

Nikon D4 ([shoplink 19911]specs&price[/shoplink]) vs Fuji X E2 in Studio at stanleyleary.com here: “I shot at the lowest recommended ISO for each manufacturer […] I suggest downloading the high resolution and do all the pixel peeping you like.” For his second post “Fuji X E2 vs Nikon D4 with x-rite Mini ColorChecker” click here. In a third post “Loving the Fuji X E2 for Portraits” he takes some portrait shots with the 18-55. Read more here.

– Mike Croshaw: “Heya,  I’ve been shooting a lot in the studio with the X-E2 and wrote up a short article about how it compared to the X-E1.  Feel free to share if you think it might be of interest.” Check it out here.

reviews

– Spectacular dynamic range (“the most amazing aspect of the Fuji X-E2“), quick and responsive, very good color accuracy, the automatic white-balance handles natural and artificial lighting “surprisingly well“… all this (and more) makes the X-E2 an excellent camera. But at ISO 800+ images (JPEG) are soft from the overly aggressive noise-reduction (so shoot RAW or change your NR settings). But read more at neocamera here.

techradar‘s X-E2 review here: “The introduction of Lens Modulation Optimiser technology also brings an improvement in image quality across the frame. […] The majority of photographers who use the X-E2 are likely to shoot raw files, so they are unlikely to be concerned about the painterly effects that appear in out of focus areas in some JPEGs.”

– “This is the Fuji you’ve been waiting for!” says fstoppers.com here: “As soon as I learnt how to shoot with it, it became fun. A LOT of fun! […] If you’re looking for a light, discreet camera with some great glass to carry around for travel, street or just everyday shooting, the X-E2 will tick all of those boxes perfectly and the image quality won’t let you down. The images you get from this thing are great, and while it’s not “cheap”, for the price of the body and some nice fast lenses, it feels like great value.”
