X-E1 review and comparison with D600 and NEX-7

OK, this time it’s Chinese! The automatic translation-tools requests a bit of imagination to find a sense in what is written. But the good thing is, that there are a lot of pictures. This time it’s the Chinese pcpop.com that has reviewed the X-E1.

In this case we have also a comparison with the Nikon D600 and the Sony NEX-7! A tough fight.

Here you can see the comparison between the X-PRO1, X-E1 and NEX-7 (see the pictures here).

The next comparison is between the X-E1 and the D600. Take a look at the JPEGs of these cameras (click here).

There are many more images, about ISO, noise reduction, and videos about the auto-focus. Just click through the test.

Check it out and share your considerations in the comments.

  • Can you provide a summary based on your reading of the translation?

    • Well, many things repeat only what I’ve already posted (see other reviews on fujirumors). The X-Trans gives great images, the focus isn’t the fastest. The standard noise reduction adjustment gives the best results. This time I focused on the comparison between X-E1, D 600, and NEX-7. That’s I think the new and interesting aspect of this review. I speak 4 languages fluently (or almost), but the Chinese… there is no way. So just click through the review and let google translate it. Can tell you just the PROS and CONS this review noticed: PROS: Looks great, handling, the X-Trans sensor, the EVF, the built-in flash, and the excellent image quality (almost equal to full frame SLR) CONS: Video (auto-focus performance) and the expensive price.

  • This review is lack of details and depth. The comparison between these cameras are just there to attract more page views but provide nothing really meaningful to tell the differences you will get from these cameras in daily usage.

  • …when FUJI-X-FF?

  • I know they are jpegs, but the D600 images have very clear chroma noise banding on the bank note. On the DPReview pixel peeper, I see lots of chroma noise for the D3200 too, such as in the red on the queen of hearts. I mention the D3200 because it sounds like that sensor could go in the D7X00 whenever that comes out.

The dark red thread meanwhile is more detailed with the D600 than the X-E1. That coincides with reviews I saw saying that the D800 was way ahead of the 5D III in shadow detail and shadow recovery. It sounds like a Nikon strongpoint.

    • Does the D600 produce more chroma noise, or does the X-E1 do more chroma noise NR in the background?

This is why I don’t like comparing JPEGs. Compare RAWs, even if they’re a tiny bit cooked. Then you’ll see the potential of attaining the best image quality. When you’re comparing JPEGs, you’re comparing default settings in the camera. That’s it. That’s how a Sony sensor can be used by 3 companies, and yet the OOC JPEGs are all so different.
