Silkypix is certainly better than the Adobe products as far as conversion quality goes, but it is a terribly designed piece of software. The interface is straight out of the late 1990's and is not intuitive. Basically I hate it.

How is Silkypix for conversion? Does it have strange artifacts, colour smearing, or loss of detail? My understanding is that I could convert the RAW files in Silkypix, and then after minor adjustments (white balance, exposure, etc) save it as a TIFF file and perform further work in Photoshop/Lightroom.

I am considering getting the Fuji X-E1 to replace my Canon DSLR, but would only do so if the RAW files can be converted at the full potential of the sensor. If there is image quality degradation, due to software companies' inability to demosaic the RAW image properly, it would likely be a waste to get one.

I have tried the X-pro 1 in a store recently and the Jpeg files that I saved are impressive ~ love the sharpness of the images produced without the low pass filter. However, I would not want to shoot Jpeg regularly...

Yes raw conversion was the first thing I tried out - still poor.

Back to silkypix till they fix it - it's a shame too doing everything in lightroom would be so handy.
