(UPDATE) Fake firmware updates…
UPDATE: A couple of FR readers sent me the link to DChome where some user claimed to have published the new Fuji FW update files. I am writing this because you should NOT download this files and NOT install them. The real fw update will come soon don’t worry. But before you make some mistakes I thought it would be good to warn you
Thanks Rico P. for the warning
As a reminder: These are the new features coming with the fw update:
Fujifilm X-Pro1 – firmware version: 2.03 Changes:
* Allows compatibility with the new “XF14mmF2.8R” lens.
* Improved performance of Auto Focus under various shooting conditions.
Fujifilm X-E1 – firmware version: 1.04 Changes:
* Allows compatibility with the new “XF14mmF2.8R” lens.
* Shutter release button now works when an external remote release is connected.
* Improved performance of Auto Focus under various shooting conditions.
* Audio performance has been optimised for the new Stereo Microphone MIC-ST1 (sold separately).
FUJINON XF35mm – firmware version: 2.02 Change:
* Improved accuracy of Auto Focus performance.

4 months ago |The firmware 1.03 for X-E1 seems to be the exact size as the firmware 1.01. It probably means that this version only updates the XF 14 mm lens firmware while keeping the body firmware at 1.01.

4 months ago |Okay?
And what is new in this Update for thex-pro?
Christian
4 months ago |Over on the other forum some guys installed it and the X-E1 shows Firmware 1.03.
They claim slightly faster AF and less hunting.
Great – but I´ll sit tight until the next days the official firmware 1.04 will be up.

4 months ago |What is meant by improved AF under a variety of shooting conditions?
Rene
4 months ago |These are the firmware versions that ship with the XF 14mm f/2.8 (on an SD card in the box).
I have been using both since my 14mm lens arrived with no problems whatsoever, so I would not say “absolutely not recommended”…
Of course, if you do not (yet) have the 14mm lens, there might be little advantage to update the body FW.
I have not explored potential improvements on AF performance (these might also be linked to the 35mm f/1.4 FW update anyway?).
I can confirm that on the X-E1 the shutter button now remains active when the RR-80 remote is connected, which is nice. I don’t have the microphone, so no idea about that “optimization”.
By the way, once told I did find the infamous “extra line of colored pixels” top left on JPEG images shot with the 18-55mm, on both X-Pro1 and X-E1, in about 70% of my images shot between ca. 27 and 31 mm. We all assume that is the bug to be fixed before we will see a next FW release.

4 months ago |This has to be joke, right? Version 1.03 is not version 1.04, and version 2.02 is not version 2.03. These links simply lead to the CURRENT firmware that is bundled with every 14mm lens (in order to support MF with that lens). That’s all. The new and improved firmware is due soon. As everybody knows, I intend to write about firmware updates in my regular Friday column. You guys are smart, so you know what this means. But as usual, I am not prematurely spreading rumors as fact, because Fuji might (again) find a last minute glitch and postpone the event. That’s what happened the last time, remember? So stop hyperventilating.

4 months ago |Why anyone would install these unofficial firmwares just to ‘be first on the bus’ is simply beyond me… With the potential risk even of possibly ruining your camera…. Who knows what pranksters these days could accomplish knowing perfectly well what can be done to computers, mobiles etc by malware… I’m not saying it necessarily has to go down like that but why not excercise a bit of patience and wait for ‘the real deal’? ;o)
deng
4 months ago |Well, it’s not fake and it’s not unofficial.
It’s just as Rico said – the firmware that is bundled with XF14.

4 months ago |My point is primarily: to always get the firmware from a trusted source namely the cameramaker…. The rest of my comment is simply to elaborate further… fake or no fake – official or not – old or new – my point remains… I’m also quite aware of Rico’s commentary…;o)

4 months ago |It’s not fake, just not the same as Fuji wanted to publish a week ago.
It’s just as Rico said – the firmware that is bundled with XF14.
