Cactus RQ250 TTL Wireless Monolight for Fujifilm X on Kickstarter

Cactus RQ250

Cactus just launched the Cactus RQ250, a palm-sized, 250Ws, Li-ion battery-powered TTL wireless monolight on kickstarter here.

“Compact, wireless, with TTL and HSS support for 8 camera brands including Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Sigma and Sony, this powerful light can change instantly from a round head diffusion disc flash to a bare-bulb flash.

The Cactus RQ250 is designed with location shooting in mind. Equipped with a magnetic flash head and bayonet mount, it makes mounting light modifiers as quick as a snap.”

What do you get in a Cactus RQ250 apart from the 250Ws power? Here is the list:

  1. Made-in-Japan capacitors to guarantee safety and reliability under intensive use
  2. 1.1s full power recycling time
  3. Detachable uni-body reflector head with frosted diffusion disc. No add-on reflector dome is needed, save space in your bag and allows you to shoot right away.
  4. Built-in magnetic system for clip-on modifier. No need to add additional magnetic adapter.
  5. 20W built-in modelling light and AF assist. No need to add external bracket.
  6. Circular light with nearly zero undesirable hot spot, which speedlight head or something similar cannot do.
  7. Extra low output of 1/512
  8. Cooling fan and thermal sensors to guarantee continuous shooting without overheat. No other light with similar size has anything similar.
  9. Aluminum reflector head and built-in bayonet mount which design and material used are the same as camera lens – top quality, quick, robust and durable.
  10. Colour mode to save your time in post-production.

Cactus X-TTL Cross-Brand TTL Firmware Upgrade for FUJIFILM Cameras Now Available

Back on March 24, Cactus announced that they are working on a free firmware upgrade on the Cactus V6 IIs and Cactus V6 II transceivers to support cross-brand wireless TTL on Fujifilm cameras.

They also launched a dedicated website, and told us to stay tuned for updates, so I visited that special Cactus page a few times every day for almost 3 months now and finally something happened :)

Today, Cactus finally updated their X-TTL website. Here is what they say:

The X-TTL firmware gives photographers an unprecedented flexibility. The need for matching flashes with the same camera system for on and off-camera TTL flash photography is over – TTL without boundaries.

The Firmware update to support Fujifilm cameras is available now, along with support for Sony and Sigma. More brands will follow.

The first wave of firmware releases will be for Fujifilm, Sony and Sigma. Other camera systems, i.e. Pentax, Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Panasonic, will follow one by one as we complete system integration on the V6 II.”

Nissin: New Firmware for HSS on X-T2/Pro2 Coming “at a Later Date” + Air 1 Commander in November ** HSS with Cactus Beta Firmware (VIDEO)

nissin-i60

If you follow FujiRumors regulary, you’ll know that the Nissin i60 is in stock since mid September. You can find the Nissin i60 at Adorama, AmazonUS and BHphoto.

One of the issues, though, is that with the X-T2 (and the X-Pro2 FW 2.0) Fujifilm introduced new flash protocols (read also Fujifilm & Flash, The State of The Art here). This means that flashes like the Nissin i60 need firmware udpates in order to work properly.

Well, apparently Nissin is working on it. If I got the google translated version right, Nissin just said in an official press release to the Nissin i60 launch in Japan here (via dc.watch), that they are working on a firmware udpate, in order to unlock the HSS feature.

“[google translated] Regarding the for Fujifilm, with FP flash (high-speed synchro) non-compliant at the moment, is scheduled to correspond by firmware updates at a later date.

In addition, NAS commander “Air 1” Fuji Photo Film for Four for the Thirds, is expected to release November.

Regarding the Nissin i40, FR-reader Fujica explains that “you will need to send your flash to the distributor for the update as the i40 does not have a USB port.”

As shared here on FujiRumors back in September here, Cactus is also working on a new firmware and you just have to drop them an email to get access to the Beta Firmware. ZedProMedia did it, and shared his feedback on his youtube channel here.

Hey everyone, a quick update…

In the next couple of days, we will soon have a beta firmware for you to test on the X-T2.

If you are interested in testing it with us, please send an email to info@cactus-image.com with subject line “X-T2” and we will send you the Updater with embedded X-T2 beta firmware.

I would greatly appreciate if you can share your findngs here on the fourm (under this post) so we can see if others experience the same kind of bugs and issues.

For those who needs to use the V6 II for commercial work, please wait a little bit more as the beta version is likely not ready.
